Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Not ranting not moaning, just saying. I’ve got a Tesco delivery slot for 3rd April. Lucky me. You have to put some things in the basket and agree payment etc to reserve the slot but you can change it up to midnight the day before delivery. Yesterday there was £26 of usual stuff in there this morning there’s £6 worth of shopping. 2 jars of jam and a big washing up liquid. So I look to see what they’ve knocked off, one item was homepride flour. I look up flour as I’ll have another brand if they’ve got one. NO FLOUR of any sort.
The substitutes would be funny at any other time.
Lemon floor cleaner, further down a mop, suet and all sorts of items. I do cryptic crosswords but even I’m buggered to find any connection in their suggestions to substitute for flour. .

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12597 comments Well, didn’t expect the lockdown quite so soon! Better start a to do list, I can’t say I don’t have time to do some of those boring cleaning jobs anymore! And cleaner has messaged to say she isn’t allowed to continue. I can’t actually wait to be able to go in the office again. Not sure if I will still be getting my car back this week, and if not, if I will still be insured to drive the hire car, or what is going to happen to my tooth app, hope they do still do it as the cap she put on Fri has started to come off, and I haven’t been eating on that side of my mouth. At least we have some sun, would be a lot more depressing if it was grey and miserable.

Who would have thought homeschooling would have been more efficient! Good luck with the books MT. Impressed you home schooled three children Alicia. Yes, people who have had recent contact will, I have to verify my details every time I go, felt sorry for the receptionist for the eye ward, she must have got fed up of asking me! I haven’t had a text though, which is good. Heard that Myanmar has cases now, hope you are OK Patti. My neighbour said there was no flour to be had in Lidl yesterday, people are clearly buying it in case they can’t get bread, but apparently they had plenty of that.

Very strange times.

Will Once (willonce) | 3772 comments One week in to the new normal. Working from home. No face to face social contact with anyone outside the family. One walk per day. Shopping very sparingly and only for essentials.

We're lucky. I can work from home. My salary keeps rolling in - glad I'm not self employed these days. We're safe-ish and comfortable.

Mustn't grumble.

Hope everyone is staying safe and in good spirits.

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Beautiful morning here, blossom coming out on the cherry tree. I’m counting my blessings, I’m not at all smug just thankful we are all ok. Family members are essential workers and keeping working so I’m grateful for all those people as well.
It’s much quieter this morning. Husband saw no one - not a soul. on the early dog walk, not like yesterday morning.

Jim | 21810 comments Gorgeous day, shirt sleeve weather :-)

message 13259: by Karen (new)

Karen Lowe | 1338 comments Fab weather indeed - Other Half was in his shorts - and I dug out my sun hat. Been wrestling the garden but I think it's still winning.
At least the weather helps keep spirits up tho no doubt the farmers will be wanting rain shortly. Or as my mum used to say to her Other Half (a farmer), you want it sunny on that field and raining on that one...
Keep safe and well all

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12597 comments Had a bit of a nightmare last night, got told my car was ready, but couldn’t be released till my excess was paid, so had to ring the insurance company. Unfortunately the other insurance company haven’t processed the claim yet, so as they haven’t claimed liability, it was my responsibility to pay, and then can claim it back once resolved – if I’d known two months later that hadn’t been sorted, I wouldn’t have allowed the car to be fixed, but hey ho, bigger things to worry about at the moment! Was going to collect it and nip in the office after work, so it would be safer, but they weren’t sure who would still be in the office by then, so had to do it in my lunchbreak, tad annoying as I wanted to get some washing pegged out today. I felt very naughty going out to get my car though, and expected to be pulled over, apparently there were police about yesterday stopping people. Was a lot quieter than Sun though. Have to say I feel much better for having left my street and had conversations with people. Collected a couple of bits to make working from home easier as it will be at least two weeks.

How are you finding working from home Michael? Glad you are safe and comfortable Will.

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Well I’ve heard from my old neighbour that her daughter has the virus and separately from my daughter that her partners niece in Cardiff has it. Be careful Desley. Its obviously spreading quickly.
They are putting up tents for extra facilities at the back of our hospital.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments A couple friends here have family members in the UK who have tested positive.
Difficult times being away from home.
I'm in daily contact with my family, as is Dave.
All good so far, touch wood.

Its very hot here now. a/c running 24/7. Our power bill is going to be staggering.

Fewer kids are showing up online to be taught each day. I'm torn between being glad they're not stressing about school work on top of everything else and desperately missing them and wanting to know they're okay.

I thought I'd be reading a lot more than I am.
I keep picking up my kindle in the day but can't settle to read.
I'm managing a few pages before falling asleep at night.
Must say I'm sleeping better than I have in weeks. Its a good escape.

I wonder if it's stress?
I had it during FMD when I discovered all I could read were the Asterix books and when the pressure eased I progressed to Terry Pratchett

message 13264: by Lynne (Tigger's Mum) (last edited Mar 26, 2020 12:29AM) (new)

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments I agrée with the stress theory. I’ve had two books on my table for months. I dust them but just haven’t got the ooomph for opening them and actually reading. My old kindle has died as I let the battery go so flat it’s beyond resuscitation. I try to remember to keep charging my paperwhite. We did buy new batteries once and they came from China so I’m not sure how long new ones would take to deliver.
On a lighter note the bottom fell out of my other half’s world last night. Well actually his teapot. He loves his tea and insists on a proper teapot.. He doesn’t know that I put one teabag in a cup when I make it. I don’t tell him as he uses 2 teabags and fannies about, hotting the pot etc. Anyway he always makes the cups of tea to take to bed, I have a camomile teabag in my cup, so he put a small amount of water to warm the little brown pot for himself and the round base came off clean. Complete perfect circle - not a crack across it. Thank goodness he hadn’t filled it. The call to me upstairs to ask if we’ve got another little teapot anywhere was pitiful. It will keep him busy today looking for a new one on the Internet.
Absolutely beautiful morning here.

message 13265: by Karen (new)

Karen Lowe | 1338 comments Morning all, beautiful here too tho a sharp frost... glad my Other Half warned me, so I took in the little plants I'd potted up. Hopefully do a bit more garden-wrestling when it's warmed up. And I need to make a couple of birthday cards to send early - so they can 'quarantine' them before opening!!

Will Once (willonce) | 3772 comments It all feels a bit unreal. I spend a lot of time working from home anyway so it's not a big change, but it's odd to be trapped in that lifestyle for most of the time.

One thing that is bringing it home is that my group of 14 work colleagues currently has two people away coping with bereavements. Don't know if those are covid19 deaths, but still it makes it seem a bit more tangible.

Keep safe everyone.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12597 comments Another nice day here, managed not to see 5am this morning, but up early enough to feel more in a routine. Got washing pegged out before starting work, have rang the mortgage company, was lucky as they said up to an hour wait, but was only on hold for about 5 mins. Apparently our bins should still get emptied tomorrow, good job as the tips are obviously closed. My hands are so dry with all the extra washing I hope I have enough hand cream left! Just tried plugging my laptop into my TV, it kind of works – looks a bit flat, and I can’t shut the laptop, but I can at least use my keyboard rather than my laptop, will probably still have to re-arrange the computer desk over the weekend. The only good thing about working from home is that I don’t need my eyedrops as often, although my knee is objecting, I forgot to bring my foot rest home yesterday, so might have to do something creative with the pile of unread books in here!

Apparently Wales are having loads of cases Lynne, not sure why. Glad everyone is OK Patti, sorry the situation is affecting your reading ability, but at least you are sleeping better. Hope OH can find a new teapot Lynne, can’t be missing out on a good cup of tea!

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4836 comments Surreal here. Food is dropped off by the door.

Worried about the increasingly draconian stories: if they don't consider you worthy, you won't get hospital assistance - and they're using age as a denier.

I hope we don't get to it locally, but everything is shut down, and it will be a long time before a vaccine.

Wash your hands a lot - we are all connected.

I know one lady who is (hopefully has) travelled from Cumbria to Newcastle because her son will feel happier if she stays with him in his flat. Her daughter who lives nearer also wanted her to stay but she's got a husband and children
Not only is there less chance of infection in the flat, I suspect she'll feel more useful there :-)

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12597 comments Well, typically as I have the day off I was wide awake at 6.30, so got the washing I did last night pegged out and a second one in the wash by 7. Hoping I'll get a nap later. 3 day weekend with nothing to do, so think it'll be a mixture of housework, watching TV and reading. Do need to go to the co-op, think I've only got enough milk for today. There was some clapping last night and someone let off some fireworks, which for once I didn't mind.

I know a recent widow who's father in law has moved in with her, think it'll be great for both of them. Glad you feel better after doing a video chat with your family Patti. Sorry that you are feeling so worried Alicia.

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments How do? There was a hard frost at 6:00 when I looked out. At 8:45 there was a heron in our little 5ft x 3ft garden pond! He took off toward the big hedge at the other side of the paddock, where we occasionally see him. At some point he left us a fresh pellet on the greenhouse roof, glistening and crusty with beetle wings etc. Himself is dissecting it as we speak. He often does owl pellets but only once before dismembered a heron pellet. It was stinky! He's gone outside to do it, I'm glad to say.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12597 comments More of an active day than I expected, and less housework done. Decided to nip to the co-op at lunch, to find they are only letting certain numbers into the shop, so we were queuing, but it went down quickly, not surprised when I got in to find hardly anything. Got what I went for and some stuff for my neighbour, had checked with elderly neighbour but she is still going herself every few days. I didn't really notice going there, but walking back was quite eerie, never seen all the shops and the pubs closed, in fact didn't even know what one of the pub's front doors looked like! Got back, ate lunch, just about to finish the kitchen when my sister rang, she was practically out of baby milk, so I ended up having to drive to Lidl for her, they were also making people queue, but one person did kick off! Never knew what milk tokens looked like before today. I did make sure I thanked both security men when I went in and left, don't suspect they got many thanks.

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Lovely day here too,
I did see the police patrol have words with two women who arrived in a car to walk their dog. He gave her a leaflet but I don’t think he took any details off her.
One of the french villages Sanary, has been really put on lockdown. The maire got fed up with people going for one baguette then another item then another. He’s banned all pet walking, shopping has to be done In one collection and they can’t go more than 200 m from their houses.
My friend up the road has gone to live with her daughter and the daughter’s husband has gone to live in her house as the two ladies aren’t in the best of health and he’s a key worker and comes in contact with a lot of people.

Kelly Clayton | 1040 comments That's 2 weeks I've been working from home - takes a wee bit of getting used to. So much going on. It's our virtual literary festival tomorrow (this one is Crime & Thrillers) I have posted about it in the MyVLF post under Anything Goes.

Finally managed to get various food delivery services set up. I've organised the farm shop one for veg, salad, fruit and general groceries, whilst my mother-in-law has organised one from a cold-store place. We won't starve.

It's all very strange. We're not on full lockdown yet. I guess it's coming.

Kath, you should be on the telly. I'd def watch to see what you'd been up to.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12597 comments Woke up at 5.30, did manage to get some more sleep, but now that drowsy feeling like I've had too much sleep. At least I only have housework to do. It's very windy here today.

I hope we don't have to get that extreme here Lynne Glad you have got supplies sorted out Kelly.

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Blimey, I’ve finished proofing the third audiobook. Took longer because there were some technical issues and he wanted me to flag them. Also written a blog post if anyone’s interested, https://mtmcguire.wordpress.com/2020/... there’s a lady not far away who sells eggs, I may take an ‘essential walk’ to see if she’s open. Although apparently now is the time of maximum chances of infection so I’ve been trying to stay put. Sun has just come out so I’m off to batten down the greenhouse and do some gardening.

Cheers

MTM

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments PS, it’s bloody busy this lock down thing. For starters I have to clean my own house, that’s taking a chuffing age but I can use it as some of my exercise. One room a day. Also doing an hour’s gardening every day so my Fitbit is impressed that I’m being strenuous enough but doesn’t think I’m walking very far. :-)

So much to do, so little time. Next two weeks will be proofing audiobook 4 then my time’s my own.

Cheers

Jim | 21810 comments Actually normal work continues, but today has been quite cold here, wind round from the north, I even lit the fire

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments Been absolutely Baltic here today, that wind is freezing.

Got a nice delivery of 1kg of coffee from the local roasters so that's one less worry (and the house smells fabulous). Also we got an order from the butcher which will keep us going for a fortnight probably. They also do a limited selection of veg so I added some to the order too, for ease. Very amused by the 1lb of onions that I asked for turning up as one onion. One GIANT onion. Just as well I didn't ask for six onions...¯\_(ツ)_/¯

We've had several days of shirt sleeve weather, but the wind came round to the north and it's supposed to stay from the north until the middle of the week, so back to winter jacket I suspect
Lighting the fire is once more the first job of the morning

message 13290: by Karen (new)

Karen Lowe | 1338 comments looking bright and sunny here, and no frost (at least, not when I looked out an hour ago). Tempting to get back in the garden but I suspect its a tad chilly
Think I might make a banana loaf this morning as the two sorry specimens left on the shelf need using up. We don't normally waste much food - there's only the two of us - but these days I'm even more conscious of not throwing anything away!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12597 comments Morning all, glad the clocks have gone forward, an hour less of boredom today, although feeling the lack of sleep! Sun is shining, but when I opened the door for Lucy, there was white stuff floating round! Still very windy.

good luck baking Karen. At least you got an onion R, even if it wasn't what you were expecting!

message 13292: by Lynne (Tigger's Mum) (new)

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments I’ve done that Rosie, put one in expecting it to.be a weight not a lonely vegetable. There’s no bags of carrots only loose and I started to put several in but Tesco’s restrict it to 3 items of any one sort. I wanted grapes but thought I’d be screwed for the whole order as it’s 80 items max😀😀😀
If you live in Wales there’s no chance of letting supermarkets know if you are at risk, disabled or merely old. Our fabulously useless Welsh assembly objected to the delivery to vulnerable people scheme before this crisis hit.
I think it was because it was not in Welsh and I’m not being facetious here.

message 13293: by M.T. (new)

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Three lots of hail here, but scored 12 more eggs from the lady who has chickens in her garden. It's about a mile's walk away too so it was a pleasant stroll up there in a sunny interval and a horrible walk into the teeth of the gale, plus hail on the way back. I don't recall being hailed on before, it's like having those little yellow and pink sherbet balls thrown at your face. Hard.

Just uploaded the first audiobook to ACX :-) Hope it'll pass the tests but we won't know if it's passed for three months at least - yep that's how long it's taking. Now to stick it on Findaway voices ... squee.

Cheers

MTM

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12597 comments Well, motivation has been hard to find today, don't know if it is my normal apathy because of the clock change, the world situation or a mixture. Don't often say this, but will be glad for the distraction of work tomorrow. Highlight was being able to eat two slices of toast without pain, although if you'd seen the sizes I'd cut them into! Other plus's are I've finished two books this weekend and my TV box has the most space it's had this year.

Sorry you got caught in hail MT, we've had a few lots here, but very pathetic - although I didn't leave the house in them! Fingers crossed for the audiobook. Good luck with your Tesco order Lynne. Wouldn't surprise me a Welsh council refusing something as it wasn't in Welsh.

They are all nice things I've been meaning to do for age, not chores. The grey cold weather is no help. Far easier to be motivated when sun is shining - at the very least I could sit in the garden doing nothing and feel that it's doing me good!
