Nice to see you Jud, do hope the car isn't a write off, glad you are OK though. You've reminded me, I need to ring about mine on the way home.

Spent the morning working on compliance rubbish, and was delighted on checking to find that one of my clients has moved to
Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch

I'm tempted to set it up the business head office there, (and have stuff forwarded to me) on the grounds I'm sure it would cut down the amount of bumpf you get sent

I got my application in by the skin of my teeth, so fingers crossed. I start work in a local nursing home on Monday as well. Eeep.

Sorry to hear about your 'Bambi on ice' impersonation, glad everybody is OK
Hope the nursing home job goes well

Sorry Jud, didn't notice you had a job, good luck.

Storm Dennis is arriving here. All the animals have sought out warm comfy spots and have settled in for the day

Morning all
The latest Frog News... St Valentine's day, as usual, and they are 'at it'! that'll be all through half term week so educational for the little grandchildren!! At least they have a nice wet and relatively mild day today.

Fortunately not Will, my friend has 3 lots of milk, which gets split into two parcels, and it was the 1 lot by itself that was damaged, although when I opened the other box they were a bit battered.

Thinking of you all battening down the hatches.

What you have to remember Desley is that a lot of flood defences are actually erected on the day of the storm itself. The country has a lot of flood gates that need to be closed and 'demountable' barriers that have to be erected
When the Environment Agency gets the warning from the weather forecasters, their staff are out there getting everything ready

We were on the quiet side of the house but everyone else found it was quite loud. I had a great night's sleep though. Shrewsbury was definitely moist today though.
Cheers

Good luck sorting the barn roof Will, hope we don't have another flood this weekend as they said last week!

Dennis seems to have hit different areas harder than Ciara
For us the big issue was Ciara hit at the same time as some really high tides and came in from just the right direction to drive the sea even higher into Morecambe Bay than it would have been without the wind

Ah well, that 'll be a whole new garden fence needed thanks to Ciara, Dennis and whoever the one in between was that swished over us from France. Raining continuously, but what's new. Feels like it's been raining since September. (I've been counting - see what happens when you've got work being done on the house!).

Sorry you need a new garden fence Kelly, my neighbour only said last night she doesn’t think we’ve had such a wet winter before. I don’t mind rain at this time of year, as the alternative is snow. Sounds a wise plan Will!

We still haven't bought one - husband isn't planning on it - but I'm finding myself unwilling to just get an Uber and go, even though I know it's much less expensive for the amount of travel I do.
Weird side effect of the move.

It's been windy here and a bit squally - there was snow yesterday but only for a little while and it didn't sit. On the downside, as we were leaving the house to come away, I dropped my ipad and smashd the screen. On the upside, it's working and the finished fourth audiobook has landed in my in box! Woot! On the downside, I can't really start proofing it until Monday.
Cheers

In the UK it's recognised that for rural households where there is no public transport, a family pretty much needs two cars. But I have two daughters who live in major cities and neither have any interest in purchasing a car and haven't even taken the driving test.

I've found myself in the position of requesting, over the last month or so, four books from Netgalley. I heard no more. Yesterday they were all approved - so I'd better get my head down and read! I'd forgotten about one, given up hope on the other, but the last two were more recent.

And now with the drive to go all electric hotting up, who wants to bet rural areas will be left behind in the provision of charging points?

yes youngest is in Edinburgh area and there is excellent public transport

My grandmother tried to learn innumerable times but abandoned it in the end, some people just don't take to it

I suspect we'll all have to have our own. I also wonder what they'll do about tractors and similar. It would make far more sense for rural vehicles to be powered by biodiesel
After all particulates are only an issue in over concentrated urban areas

I agree Jim, it turns out my problem is gears, I'm fine in an automatic car!

I confess I've never driven an automatic

I always have automatics, Desley. Much easier, and in many ways safer.
Jim, My parents took 13 and 14 test attempts respectively to pass in the 1960s. Whilst waiting to achieve a UK licence, they both drove around, quite legally, on legally obtained Irish driving licences. (They cost £ 5 each over the counter of a butcher's shop visited on a holiday to Eire. Available to UK or Eire citizens with no driving test required. Ah, happy, less regulated, days)

But on a totally different topic, I was chatting to a lady last night, and she was flicking through her kindle app and pointing out books she had very much enjoyed. One was
Muriel's Bear

I never thought of automatics being safer Will. Never heard of being able to buy a driving licence, or being given one for wartime driving!

And it is wet :("
The rain has obviously run out, it's not raining

Because they suspended driving tests etc during the war people were given provision licences
On 18 February 1947, a period of 1 year was granted for wartime provisional licences to be converted into full licence without passing the test.

Stocks seem fine here as its wet and windy again

Thanks for the info Jim, learnt something new.

it's a bad day if we don't learn something new :-)

Definitely the right decision Jim. I skid on a patch of ice on Tuesday and the car is possibly a write off, it's going to the garage today to be looked at. I'm okay, it was a very gentle accident from a passenger point of view, thought I'd be a little stiff after but I wasn't so all okay, kids weren't with me so I count it as a bit of quality reading time!
Happy Valentines to all.
