Kath Middleton | 23860 comments How do each? I won't be up for midnight either, Rosie. My midnights are spent tucked up in bed! Sister's coming for dinner and a glass or two of fizz but the fireworks will no doubt wake me only briefly.

Hard frost this morning which has only just disappeared from the shady places.

Happy 2020 to one and all. XX

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12598 comments Well, that ended up a different day, neighbour offered a trip to a retail park I've not done this holiday, took back my dress and got a new top instead, couple of birthday presents, and still enough time to do a half hearted attempt at the car, washing up and wardrobe. Getting ready to settle on the sofa for the evening with some Kir Royale now. Happy new year (and decade!) to everyone x

Thanks for the link Jim!

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4836 comments Amazing what you get done, Desley. I'm tired just from reading about it.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12598 comments For once I'll agree, I normally think I haven't done enough! And had little energy today, so not sure how i did so much. A lot of my decluttering this hol has been half hearted, but figure its better than nothing.

Jim | 21811 comments Looks like first up, best dressed, again :-)

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12598 comments Happy New Year!

Lucy tried getting me up at 7, but she failed, I relented at 9. Nothing on my schedule for today, me and Lucy are staying in my room till lunch for the girls to have more time, and as the weather is nice, think I'll go for a walk and maybe watch a film, neighbour is cooking tea.

I'm never first up! Actually I'm never best dressed either - but I can live with it. Happy new decade to one and all.

Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments Happy new year. I'm back at work at the desk. With the prospect of a very full house after today for a week or so, I might just hibernate in the study!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12598 comments Boring day today compared to yesterday, doing the last things on my to-do list, cleaning the bedroom carpet. Did have a lovely walk yesterday, then we went to the coffee shop and I got to be the first one to try their new hot choc flavour, black forest.

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4836 comments Can report a very satisfactory first of the year: I recovered all my writing software, including an old version of Word that runs on my Macbook. I was expecting an ordeal, and, instead, found that I was able to find all the pieces that had eluded me since the crash of July 2018 (before moving).

Microsoft gets kudos: I needed to download Office 2011 for Mac which I bought in 2013, and its last update, several years ago, and they don't even support this Office version any more, but the software downloaded and installed perfectly. I'm back!

Can't get to sleep after the adrenaline, but it was worth it.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12598 comments So glad you got your computer sorted, even if it did cost you sleep, hopefully that'll help your writing this year

Thanks. Yes.

And today I sorted out the post office snafu - and learned how much information they give you online when you use Priority Mail, so it was a net gain. Left over from last fiscal year; fortunately, no problem - things were delivered in a timely manner. Phew!

And slept a lot. Into the writing fray tomorrow!

And had the folk-singing group I'm trying to get going tonight, so I'm sort of beat, but in a good way.

Hope everyone's first day of the year was good, too.

There may be glitches, but, on thinking about it, it was the best of all possible outcomes. Good karma or something.

Hope your writing is also going well - I'm looking forward to the new compilations of farm and working dog stories.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12598 comments Yesterday ended up being a bit lazier than planned, for some reason I slowed down after lunch, so dragged things out for hours. Going shopping today with a friend, although neighbour has given me some things she wants me to pick up for her while I'm out.

Wow, you have been really productive this year Alicia.

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Sun shining, bit watery but at least it’s dry. I’m climbing slowly out of the black hole. Daughter’s not making a lot of progress on the ear/ vertigo front. She went out solo just down the road and nearly took down the wall in the building society. She worries people might think she’s drunk. She’s got an ENT appointment this month but she’s trying to get it brought forward if possible.
I’m waiting for my washing machine man again. The parts that came last week weren’t correct so he’s trying again. Hopefully this morning. Neighbours funeral today so there's always someone worse off.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12598 comments Sorry to hear that your daughter is still struggling Lynne, do hope she can get an earlier app

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments Yes fingers crossed for a better year for you all Lynne

Lovely day here, brilliant sunshine but a snell wind. Off out for my constitutional shortly.

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Well ... that wasn't so bad was it? Dreaded Christmas but it was lovely, then worried about New Year because Mum in-law spent Christmas in hospital but we let her out and luckily they let us come so we were able to do the cooking and pamper them a bit.

Chucking it down with rain here and it appears to have forgotten to get light. Sitting in the sub acquaneous gloom doing mailing list hygiene, in a minute I'll have to get my finger out and do some cooking.

Lynne, I do hope things look up.

Cheers

MTM

Harry Nicholson (harrynicholson) | 209 comments I've popped in to wish you all a joyous and contented 2020. I look in sometimes, but have said naught for 12 months or more. I'm still writing - am on with vol two of my seagoing memoir (a symptom of advancing years when that happens).
I've had health gremlins for four years, but the magical NHS are on the case. I had adventures in a vast machine that spun around me, hissed and hummed, and resembled the heads of three cobras. I'd volunteered as guinea-pig in a new trial. Seems to have worked, and should save the NHS a great deal they say.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12598 comments Phew, that was a heavy shopping trip, downside of going with this friend is we don't sit down or really eat/drink, plus everything has to be checked to make sure it's vegan/cruelty free, I do end up googling while we are shopping! We did however manage to get everything we went for, plus a bit more, and the stuff my neighbour sent me for too. Now just waiting for tea to be ready and chilling for the rest of the evening.

Sorry your mum-in=law was poorly MT, glad you were able to pamper them a bit.

Have they done VRT (Vestibular Rehabilitation Therapy) with your daughter, Lynne? Hard to believe it's part of standard therapy here, and easy to learn - my husband was told there were no drugs but the rehab worked, and it did. Or is she way past all that?

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12598 comments Morning all, can't believe it's the last day of my hols, dreading getting up tomorrow, I haven't been doing my usual getting up early then going back to bed this hol, so the early start might be hard. Sunday chores this morning, then we are going out for a meal, it's a neighbours husbands' 80th, but it's a surprise meal for him.

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Just finished looking at the latest wip after its return from the editor. Just wondering if I should send back for a final sweep (costs money!) or just publish and be damned! Mwahahahrgh.

Two more days of holidays left then I have to get up early. On the upside, got invited to three digs in as many minutes and I'm going to them all! Woot!

Cheers

Yes. That way you can always blame the editor.

I'm fed up of starting work in the dark now.

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments Me too Will, it doesn't reach daylight until well after nine. (and sometimes barely at all, all day!) Somehow January mornings are darker than December. The evenings are getting better though, I've noticed.

In other news, I am a finalist in a national art competition. Which is a nice way to start off the year :)

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12598 comments Urgh, had a rubbish night sleep so the snooze button was used this morning! Discovered that no-one had thought to bring any milk in, so we had to wait a bit before we could have a cup of tea. Apart from the 200 e-mails, it’s like we’ve not had a break! Not had daylight either. Forgot to say yesterday, got my MRI app through, I’m having it on Sun 26th Jan, at least I don’t need to have any time off work. Front door is acting up, luckily someone at work knows a handyman, seem to have lots of little jobs, so hopefully he’ll not be too expensive.

Congrats R!

Congrats on getting to the final, Rosemary! What's the competition? Can we see it online?

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments Yes, you can Will. If the group will indulge me with a little self-promotion (!) the voting link is here https://www.britishcontemporary.art/v...
(I'm the only Rosemary for the avoidance of doubt!) Winning artist is decided by public vote :)
