Oh dear Jim. HeheheDave returned from his family visits last evening, so now I can feel like it's properly Christmas.
Out for brunch with Dave's best mate this morning, then Dave is having a filling replaced.
Gonna have to get the Christmas dinner veg in today. We'll see what is in the shops.
Urgh, struggled to get to sleep and then didn't want to get up! Need to do some stuff round the house this morning, then a chaotic afternoon, I'm supposed to be going to the rescue, but also need to get my ingrowing toenail looked at, as it keeps bleeding, one is 1-3, one is 1.30-3 and there is a 20 min drive between the two. Hoping to do both, but might be a bit ambitious, especially as I have to go to Morrisons and Lidl after to get the last of the veg, milk etc. Oh dear Kath! Hope you get all you need Patti. I think today might be late enough to get the tree up Jim!
Trees (indoor and out) sorted yesterday. Fresh fruit and veg shop this morning. Now I'll roll my sleeves up, get out the dumpling dust and crack on with some mince pies.
I’m doing mince pies too this afternoon. It’s about my third lot. The management is greedy with them and has even eaten some I did to give away. I had a setback with the Christmas cake. I bought a pot of Tesco ready made royal icing. Two days later it still hasn’t set. I got the hairdryer on it but it was so liquid still it made waves across it. Scraped it off and did it properly. I never learn.

Today I did important things like emptied the septic tank and cleaned out the various drains :-)
Well, that ended up an afternoon and a half, and back out again shortly! Good job I decided to go to the clinic today, I'd left a little sharp bit that would have just grown into my skin, as it bled removing it, I have a dressing that has to stay on for 2 days. Toe has been tingly since, not sure that is good. Good job I didn't try and do both, traffic was awful, with really impatient drivers. Morrisons was full of slow people, couldn't get neighbours bread and milk so had to do co-op as well, and after tea I have to go to the retail park for her as well - she has my cold and is suffering more than I did, wouldn't trust her to drive! Sound much more important than a tree Jim!
Hello all, sorry been a bit quiet over the last few days but I was busy with a space to sell my wares over the last two weekends. It was rather quiet to be honest - the whole street was - it sounds like everyone was in Edinburgh rather than "shopping local". Which is a shame as we have one of the best High Streets in the country. The folk that were about were doing the "zombie shuffle". Anyone who has worked in retail pre-Christmas will recognise this! Made enough to cover my rent plus a bit more though, so not so bad.I did my Tesco shop this morning which was fairly ghastly but then enjoyed a wee saunter along said High Street to buy the real food ie meat from butcher, fish from fishmonger and veg from the green grocer. I've made our Christmas meal starter and one of the desserts this afternoon so feeling quite productive!
I’m done in. I’ve been cooking all day, thought I’d done enough and then found he’d eaten the next lot of mince pies I made to give to the neighbours again.. that’s twice now and I’m cross. He really got told off so he’s sulking now.

Then with a lot of the others buying locally somebody who was in our town's B&M commented that all the tills were manned and the queues at them reached half way round the store. :-(
Clearly did too much yesterday, was wiped out by 9! Up early, didn't want to get up but realised I was starving, and don't have anything to do other than go for a meal with neighbours family, so think I'll start on my Christmas to-do list. It's Lucy's 12th birthday today, she has got a new toy. Think I might have to take my dressing off, still really uncomfortable. Sorry that it has been really quiet R, at least you have made enough to cover rent plus a bit extra. I'd love a proper greengrocer again. Oh no Lynne, I bet you told him off for that!
So Christmas Eve is here (although in my house it's been renamed It's a Wonderful Life Day because of my ritualistic annual viewing). I have just the final wrapping to do and the gift certificates to put in the cards (there are just some people who won't be bought for, so I've stopped trying), so that's not actually too bad in terms of timing for me. No mad dashes to the shop for someone I've forgotten.Hope everyone has a lovely day tomorrow and lovely days for the rest of eternity (yes, I'm assuming death will be cured sometime in the next 24 hours).
Well, that involved the usual stress, ended up going to 3 different houses, but had a nice day and way too much food and alcohol. The rabbit turned up on the street again, luckily my neighbours cat was just gazing at it, so managed to get him in, but couldn't catch the rabbit, fortunately he went back to his garden! I'm doing my idea of a PJ day, which also involves trying to sort out all the presents and mess. Hope you all had a lovely day and today is also good.
glad you had a good day DesleyI confess Boxing Day is my favourite day, between work, slouch about read and potter and perhaps even nibble a little light lunch :-)
Had a lovely Christmas with our daughter here from San Francisco. She just left - and there is no energy remaining in the account (we were in the pool at 11pm last night).
Best wishes to everyone for a successful New Year's celebration - raucous or peaceful according to taste.
Another bad night sleep, typical as I have things to do today. I am going to the rescue Lucy is from first, then braving the retail park to see what tombola prizes I can get for the rescue. And back in time to sort my friends cats out at tea.So glad you had a lovely Christmas Alicia, even though you will pay for it. Sounds a good Boxing Day to me Jim!
Hope everyone had a good time. Managed to stay long enough to see my lovely bruv and sis in law. Christmas was lovely and a happy one. Mum was in good form and clearly enjoyed herself. I got to be in mostly control of the turkey cooking and it was really tasty. Felt smug. 🤣🤣😁👍Happy Christmas everyone and happy New year when it comes if I don't get here to post.
Cheers

worked for me :-)
Glad your Mum had a good day MTM, it could be a tender time for her
Just delivered son and grandson back home where daughter-in-law was mightily glad to see them. Her run of nights at the care home for adults with severe learning difficulties is over - till New Year's Eve. She drew the short straw this year.I've had chocolate for lunch and I don't care!
Phew, that ended up a hectic afternoon! Had a lovely afternoon at the rescue, got to cuddle some very cute kittens! Must remember to go to the shops before the rescue next time, I sat on a few floors as well as had cats on my knee, and forgot to take the defluffer! Did half a dozen shops, sales disappointing this year, but got stuff for the rescue, next years presents for the cats and my neighbours birthday present. Got home and got sent to the cheap shop and Lidl, as well as feeding my friends cats. Deal was neighbour cooked tea. Now ready to crash, not eaten or drank enough today, was naughty and bought cake from Costa, even though we have a whole Christmas cake and stollen to get through yet. Glad your mum had a good day MT, and you got to catch up with family. Glad you also had a good day Kath

And bac..."Sounds like it might even be lots of fun to go shopping, but I'm sorry about the bad night - makes things so much harder.
Yesterday (your Boxing Day) had way too many things in it, but our eldest daughter used part of it to help with my computer, and, though I had a doctor's appointment, I got out of the facility and got to ride Maggie back and forth. Call it a draw.
I'll call today 'Breathing Day,' to describe what I'm capable of - and that's fine.
This place has an interesting New Year's celebration: We are three hours behind New York City, so, instead of staying up late, there's a party with fun activities which end at 9pm here as we watch the ball drop in NYC. Very convenient - then you go home and to bed at a reasonable hour.
Right, friends cats fed and sorted, been to Lidl for something else my neighbour wanted. Now sitting down for half an hour, then need to do some housework and get another thing on my Christmas to do list sorted. Am hoping I might actually get to lie on my sofa today, barely even sat on it yesterday! Glad that your daughter sorted your computer and you got to ride Maggie Alicia, like the idea of the New Years celebration.
And it's all over for another year. Back at work, as I bet Jim is too.. Was it worth all the stress and expense? Will we ever empty the freezer? kay's most recent frozen vol au vent cases will have to wait another year to unfreeze. (Best before date: Dec 2010)
I'm just starting Christmas number two in Scotland. Let the party begin.I'm quite looking forward to getting back, getting the school stuff organised and maybe having a couple of McMini's friends round before he goes back. Then really looking forward to going back to work, seeing what work is (writing, doing the new release, doing the audio etc)
Cheers

In our case the frozen vol au went cases get used in May onwards as frozen turkey/chicken is thawed and mixed with a sauce and put in the cases to eat, normally with peas and mashed potato :-)
Well, that ended up a weird day, had a quiet afternoon and watched too much TV, then at 9pm my neighbour asked if I wanted to go to Asda with her, so I thought I might as well. Unfortunately it shuts at 10, so we didn't get everything, but I did get a top and dress in the sale. Knee and heel are really bad this morning though, and I have a lot of things on my to do list today. Enjoy the Scottish celebrations MT! Interesting Jim, would never think of having vol au vent cases with mash.
I have everything with mash! Except puddings.Just catching up with reviews and then I'm going to write!
Forgot to say, the rabbit turned up again yesterday, was here at least an hour, poor Lucy couldn't work out why I was being mean and not letting her out. In the end, I popped a note through their door with my number and asked if they could give me theirs so I can let them know when he turns up. She rang as soon as she got home, very apologetic, but grateful I'm trying to get him back home, turns out he is called Buddy. Yesterday he was very friendly and cute, I probably could have picked him up.Even breakfast Kath?

What about Yorkshire pudding?
Hope everyone had a lovely Christmas. I'm back at work now after a very lovely festive period, even if it did involve 900 miles of driving in a week to do two shifts in the middle! Had some lovely presents but my absolute favourite was a copy of Erin Morgenstern's The Starless Sea. I hadn't seen the cover (or the blurb!) but her first book, The Night Circus, is probablu my favourite book. Mum was still talking about my face when I opened it, two days later! It is a beautiful book, absolutely gorgeous cover!
Even breakfast! Fried leftover mash is fab with an egg. If you can manage to have any left over, of course.
Didn't want to get up this morning, but the girls don't appreciate breakfast later than 9! Got a couple of bits to do this morning, then me and a friend are going to a local bar we haven't tried yet, we are going a lunch time to be home for teatime! Looks like it's going to be a nice day too.
Lovely day here. The contrast between the sunny side of the bare tree branches and the darker side is beautiful. Been writing - going to do some painting now.
Cooo-eeee, hope you all had a good 'un. I have been so deliciously lazy. Lounging about and binge-watching "You" series 1 and "The Witcher". Rarely watch TV but these 2 have me hooked.Am off to watch Stars Wars now. x
That was a lovely afternoon, turned out my friend thought we were going for lunch, which wasn't a hardship! Downside was she needed to do food shopping after, so I drank gin by myself. Then ended doing Aldi, Lidl and Asda! Downside is I tried on my new clothes after we got back, and I don't like the dress, so I have to go back to Asda at some point this week. Still stuffed and neighbour just opened the Christmas cake, so got given a slice (fortunately, we are sharing it!). Didn't get the car cleaned, but hey ho, spending time with friends is more important. Now back in PJ's! Nice to hear from you Kelly, glad you have been able to relax.
Another day where it barely got daylight!Other than that, started putting together another collection of dog and quad blog stories :-)
Urgh, another rubbish night sleep, luckily I don't have much on today, as long as the washing up gets done and my book gets finished, the decluttering can wait. Fortunately no plans for tonight, am staying in with the cats and will go to bed whenever I get tired.
I'm with Jim on the limited daylight thing. Can't wait for the later nights.I've been doing some blog posts on memories of escapades in my twenties, that are fun.
hello all, popping in before the end of the decade! It's a lovely sunny frosty day here today, and although the mornings it still is dark till near 9am, I'm already noticing a difference in the evenings. And lots of my spring bulbs are sticking their noses out.
Happy New Year to all when it comes. I'm unlikely to stay up for the bells myself - way past my bedtime! Coal, whisky and black bun laid in for tomorrow. And fizz, of course :D
