Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12598 comments Well, my afternoon trip round the village was really nice, discovered a craft fair I didn't know was happening, won a bottle of Lucozade, got sent to two shops for my neighbour, decided to get some food from the new coffee shop, took my kindle with me but it was so busy I ended up getting it to takeaway, was really nice and glad they are so busy. Light up however, seemed to be poorly set up and seemed chaotic, was a struggle to get round places, the choc tombola sold out when we got to the front of the queue (yet they had prizes left!), and won a bath set. Then went back to the coffee shop for a hot choc to warm up, white hot choc with peanut butter syrup - slightly too sweet.

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4836 comments I'm so sorry, Lynne. The stress from all the other nonsense can have a horrible add-on effect, and they should consider what this does to their patients.

Hoping to hear better soon.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12598 comments Another lovely frosty morning. Bit of housework this morning, then we are taking my neighbours granddaughter to an open day at a local rescue, I've been trying to go to one of their events for years, then we are meeting up at a pub near there to drop her off, and having tea. Hoping to have a bath after that.

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Husband was a bit more reassured after last night visit. She’s been properly monitored and now waiting for the transfer for her sinus op. She’s got to go with a medical escort when they’ve got a side room available. Then everything will have to be sterilised. Ambulance etc. I’m not sorry I can’t go and see her. We can FaceTime but frankly I’m really not up to it. I don’t feel any better yet - don’t know if it’s just a lousy cold or even flu. I don’t think it’s meningitis though despite her telling me off. She warned me I might wake up dead but she does love zombie literature 😀when she realised what she’d said we laughed.

Kelly Clayton | 1040 comments So glad your husband is more reassured, Lynne. What a terrible time of it for you all.

Windy here. Part of the fence fell down and I had to help my husband fix it. Took me away from my laptop - the horror!

You're having a busy weekend, Desley.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12598 comments Had a lovely afternoon, they had reindeer at the craft event, which were lovely to see. They had a kind of tombola which had an Enid Blyton collection as a prize, so got my neighbours granddaughter to see if she could win, and she did, on the first go! They had loads of books for sale, I kept gazing at them all, then my neighbour said she wanted to read A Christmas Carol so we went into the shop to see if they had a copy, they didn't, but I did get a copy of In True Blood, which I've wanted to read for ages, it was 50p each or 3 for £1, so after 10 mins, I narrowed down an extra two. Probably shouldn't as I also bought 6 kindle books in the Cyber Monday sale! Had a lovely meal, although did wait about 45 mins for it and could only manage a mini dessert. Was -1 at one point driving home, according to my phone we are going to get -2 over night. Now just waiting for my bath to run, but caught my kindle while checking how long left in my book, so got a slight mark on it now.

Glad husband is more reassured Lynne, I really would speak to either a doctor or 111 to make sure you just have a cold and nothing more serious. Wow, sounds very windy over there Kelly

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments That sounds more hopeful Lynne, laughter is always good. Fingers still crossed for you all xx

I've had a day. Car broke down on the way to Edinburgh. Managed to push it off from dangerous turn off onto a grassy traffic island where I sat for two hours waiting for the RAC. On the plus side got to ride in a really big recovery vehicle. Bloody modern cars with all their bloody electronics. Give me a moggy minor that you can fix by belting it with a wrench please.

Thanks for the update - was wondering how it was going. If they do what they're supposed to do, it should work. Fingers crossed.

Jim | 21812 comments Had our church Christmas fair yesterday in the village hall. We switched from Saturday to Sunday last year and it worked well, but couldn't get our preferred Sunday and once you get into December there is just too much competition.
So rather than running Christmas fairs, if we do it again (shortage of staff) we'll have a winter fair in November

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Well I wonder what this week will bring. Daughter was brighter yesterday but they’ve still got to get the swelling and infection down so hopefully she’ll be fit to travel as they say in Wales. She’s got tests and another lumbar puncture to be done first though but she was asking for her bank card so she could send for Christmas presents for her son. That’s a good sign but her memory is very patchy so I hope she doesn’t double up on her orders. She thought she’d been texting in her sleep as she can’t remember either sending them or why, that’s worrying.
I’m up having a quiet coffee and 5. Inuites peace before the ‘‘boys’ descend. Man, manchikd and dog.
I hope they take their time. 😁

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Hope things improve soon, Lynne.
Looks like a good, dry and sunny day here so it's time to dig out the flooring in the chicken run and fill it with fresh for the winter.
And blog posts etc.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12598 comments Struggled to get up this morning, didn’t help with how cold it was, got in the car at 8 to find it was saying -2! Rang the docs on the way to work, they have changed something on my account now so that I can send messages for things like this, rather than having to ring up, so need to pick that up after work. The rescue I went to yesterday had a book shed which was amazing, they have an honesty box in there and a tub with various reading glasses in case people need to borrow any! Maybe I should take my old glasses there. Think the sign said it’s raised nearly £40k for the charity since they opened it in March 15.

Sorry your car broke down R, hope it won’t cost too much to fix. I do think things like that are better on a Sun Jim, I think people do shopping and things on a Sat and then want to do ‘fun’ things on a Sun. Glad daughter was brighter, and hope her memory is better.

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Cold here, and we're getting into the absent husband season so I had to do the school run and prep alone, which meant getting up a lot earlier than usual. Then spent an hour and a half walking round delivering leaflets for the church. I'm chuffing knackered.

Book shed sounds really cool Desley, Lynne really glad things are looking up for your daughter, Ro, sodding cars. If it's any help mine has developed a wink with one headlight going on and off but until it dies completely there's nothing I can do because the garage has to replicate the problem and they can only do that when it's winking. So the noisy cricket is currently kinky-winky.

Morning all!

Cheers

Obviously we have a lot of people round here who work both Saturday and Sunday, but at the moment Sundays aren't too busy with events

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Going backwards here I’m afraid. She had a canular die on her but the nurses and three doctors alltrued to get a new line in and it ended with the anaesthetist coming at 3 am. That meant she was 9 hours late with the antibiotic. She’s too ill to travel still. She joked she was like a round of mini golf with 13 holes but she’s sore and bruised. I’m still coughing, little lad is ok though and happily off to school I’m grateful for that. Hes really enjoying school and loves his teachers.

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Morning! We've had some stonking sunrises and sunsets these last few days.
Currently reading a book set in historical Japan. Beautiful prose and a sort of 'quest' story but hell, the sex scenes! Revolting! It's written by a French man and translated and everything else is good - not clunky or anything - so I can only assume these translations are true to the original. Lumme!
Sunny here but arctic in the wind.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12598 comments Was just waking up at 6 when I was aware of an odd noise – turned out it was Lucy snoring on the landing! Not as cold today, but don’t think we’ve had daylight yesterday or today. Got to go to the retail park after work to pick up the cat food I ordered on Black Friday and get another couple of bits.

It was cool MT, even had a heater in it. Tempted to go up again when I’m off, just not to buy any! Hope you can get the car fixed. I fully agree Kelly, I don’t know how it is December already. Mind you, I said that about November too. Sorry that there is no positive news for your daughter. Glad little lad seems to be fine with everything.

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Morning. The sun is cracking the flags but there's a bitter chill in the air. Fortunatley I'm slaving over my hot mince-pie tins to get ready for the last cake club of the year tomorrow.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12598 comments Had a bit of an issue in PAH last night, I hadn’t been given a receipt when I bought the last lot, so they couldn’t give me a refund, only an exchange. Luckily my neighbour had asked me to get some for her, so I used it to get her food and then she paid me when I got home. However, one of the boxes I’d ordered was wrong, but I can’t be bothered to go back, they’ll just have to eat it (they weren’t keen on it last time). Really struggled to get up this morning though. Work have offered us a chance to go and look at one of our sites, which I’ve taken advantage of, we get involved before we start, so nice to get the opportunity to see the finished product. Had a nightmare with the Fire Stick last night, it’s been temperamental since Sun night so tried to re-set it last night and just made the whole thing worse, so decided that as they were still down to £20 I’d just buy a new one (the remote hasn’t worked for ages, I’ve had to use an app on my phone). Unfortunately not due to arrive till 28th, so not all that helpful.

This morning's cake club was full. I felt like I was washing up forever!

After lunch - small, as I'm full of cake - I'm off round to the farm for some joints of meat. Some will be given as Christmas presents. When you have a resource like a rare-breed farm run by a trained vet visible from your window, it's a shame not to make use of it.

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Good to see you, Will!
Desley, definitely sounds like the shed is worth a trip.
Alicia, glad to hear there's rain.
Kath, full of cake sounds good but the washing up-a-thon less so.

Just had a lovely time at Parents' Swim. Mwahahahargh! Yes it's a thing, so I feel all relaxed and slightly stiff except also slightly less stiff at the same time.

Have to do a list of names, pronounced correctly, for the next book for Gareth today. He can't start anything until after Christmas but our holidays don't end until 8th Jan and he's off on tour in Feb so I'm sending it now so he can get started on it in the first week if he wants to.

Better write a blog post now. I have finally sussed out some stuff that might be useful so looking forward to posting it.

Was an amazing morning, bright, sunny, beautiful sunrise and then about five feet of fog over everything. Less fortunately, it's now clouded over and it's cold and grey. Oh well, could be worse. I've a lovely relaxing day ahead. Nothing much on but collecting the lad from school.

Cheers

MTM

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12598 comments Had a really interesting time looking at our job yesterday, not easy to convert a Grade II listed building from a pub to a combination of a pub and apartments, but they’ve done it really well, despite the challenges. Had a lovely red sky this morning. My Cat Gallery delivery arrived yesterday, fortunately I decided to check it, as one of the items isn’t in the box, and unfortunately it’s one of my neighbour’s Christmas presents, so need to e-mail them to ask if they can sort it, it wasn’t cheap. Still very tired, glad I don’t have much on this weekend. Need to nip to the co-op tonight and decide what to wear for my works night out tomorrow so I can sort my nails out.

Glad cake club went well Kath. nice to see you Will. Good you have a nice amount of rain Alicia. Enjoy your relaxing day MT

I've been bogged down in report writing and end of term rubbish.
And meeting with the board. We've all had private meetings with the board to vent . Hopefully changes will come of it.
We're actively looking for new jobs for next year, in the meantime.

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Morning. Back from the supermarket to fill the fridge. Been a busy week, and another in prospect but then it calms down a bit. Oh, except for gathering greenery and decorating the church for the carol service - but that's a pleasure.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12598 comments Not sure I mentioned that I got my first Christmas card this week, haven’t opened it yet though, still feels too early! Slipped walking downstairs last night, managed to catch myself, but wrenched my bad knee, which is affecting my hip – only consolation is that it’s my bad knee and I don’t have two sore knees! Typical though as it’s our works night out tonight, luckily we have hired a room so not too much wandering. Weather isn’t good either. Had another random noise in the house this morning, sounded like there were stones falling near the front door, hope the neighbour on that side was just doing something random! Bit short staffed today, so having to help out on our reception. Car is being MOT’d tomorrow so I’m dropping it off after work tonight so I don’t have to get up early in the morning, it asked for petrol this morning, I hadn’t noticed it was getting low due to the cold weather, it kept taking over the dashboard control!

Nice to see you Patti, sorry that the job isn’t great though, but glad you are at least happy to stay in Myanmar. You and GL are missed around here.

You'll appreciate this one, Desley: my husband identified the sound that was driving him crazy as the lobby doors, four floors down from our windows. They are automatic, and open often during the day, less often at night, and sound a bit like a small barking dog.

Here's the kicker: the front desk staff who sit there 24/7/365 are so inured to the sound they don't even notice it - husband had to get them to put in a work order for the doors to be maintained!

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments What a fortnight! Daughter home last night still on oral antibiotics and ENT man won’t operate yet. He’ll see in a month how her hearing is, she’s quite deaf in both ears but one more than the other. He did say very bluntly that she was lucky to be alive even after the degree of inflammation in her brain he said many would not have made it. That stopped her in her tracks but I’m glad he said it. She wasn’t taking anything in that we said.
I’m going over shortly to see what she needs help with. The ENT man scoped her nose and told her she’d broken her nose. That really puzzled her but she does remember face planting in the mud when she fell down that faulty drain cover which her colleagues and managers thought was so so amusing at the time. She’s very weak and emotional so she must take care and not even try to over do it.
It was lovely to sleep in my own bed last night without a fidgeting five year old corkscrewing all the duvet. Bliss in fact I would have kept him longer to give her a rest but his dad wanted him to go. He’s going to have a shock - I’m sure he thinks she’s well enough to resume clearing up after him. my ass kicking boots are polished and ready for action. I wear my ‘MIL from hell ‘ badge proudly.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12598 comments Had a really good night out last night, even though I was on the verge of going home when the train was delayed! Didn't end up getting the last train home, a colleague got her husband to collect us. Was glad they didn't stay to make sure I got in my house, between standing in the cold waiting for him and being cramped in the back of the car, I could barely walk down the street. Feel tired and headachy, but that could be the fact I woke up at 6.30 like usual even though I hadn't gone to sleep till 1.30! Have been lounging in bed with Lucy, which was nice. Plan was to pick the car up, nip to Lidl and do some housework - first two are essential, housework might just wait. I do need to set the computer up.

That is funny Alicia. I do hope that your daughter hasn't been sent home too early Lynne, but bet she will be glad to be back in her own bed. An untreated broken nose does explain a lot, seems like she is very tough to have survived this, do hope that she can recover and not end up with too many side effects. Glad you are on hand to make sure s-i-l doesn't have her doing too much. x

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments My day has started well, dog threw up twice in the night. He sounds like a carpet being beaten - wump wump wump. Followed by the plaintive cry of OH stating the bleeding obvious.
The squirrels started chasing the demons in my head at 4 am so I got up and made the Christmas cake. I put the fruit to soak in sherry yesterday and I’ll do the pudding later today. It’s a bit late but never mind they’ll still be eaten and enjoyed.
Jeremy Corbyn came to Haverfordwest yesterday. Only 2 hours late perhaps our crap roads and transport systems had something to do with it. Apparently they had to cancel the ‘sell out’ event in a hangar on the show ground and just hold the outdoor address in the square. I hope they gave refunds to ticket holders 😀😀😀

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12598 comments Urgh, feel very stiff today, so looking at the list of housework and debating how much is essential. Car passed MOT fine, I've done 1000 miles less with not doing my voluntary work! Very wet and windy, so glad I don't have anything that requires leaving the house.

Not a nice way to start the day Lynne!

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Yuk Lynne on the vomiting dog front but great news on the rest. Hope all goes well for your daughter.

Desley, glad the car made it, hope you got to take it easy.

Got to church and discovered I’d forgotten I was doing coffee and reading the lesson so had to rush up the hill to town and buy some milk, just got back in time to stride casually down the aisle and hop up to the lectern and read!

McMini decorated the tree this ago, it’s properly silly.

Cheers

My microwave gave me an indoor firework display complete with bangers then I had to descale the coffee machine as it refuses to work if you don’t. I tipped two jugs of water over. Oh well the floor got an extra wash. Little lad’s Christmas Show as they call it, he’s a shepherd. God help the lambs! I don’t know if his mum can make it. On a dull day - like today - we haven't reached proper daylight yet and it'll be getting dark by 3pm. And it's wild out there as well, I'm hearing that two lorries have already blown over near Dunbar blocking the A1. But then you get the glorious bright cold days and all is forgotten - briefly!
