My car clock reads 3 am at 5.30 pm when I pick up my lad. Nobody can fix it, I’ve noticed the service people have left it well alone, even when it was dealer serviced.

Cheers

Jim | 21812 comments Yes ours goes in for service every year and the clock remains firmly untouched

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments I was really brave, I ‘meddled’ with the menu button while waiting for OH the day. Made me sweat in case I did something wrong but my car clock is showing the correct time. We’ve been looking at all the snow in France, it’s a bit early for that and not expected in some places. We’ve had torrential rain again. No flooding. thank goodness, I feel so sorry for those that have. I’m not sorry for the rat that appeared to have been washed out this morning. Husband saw it twice, so traps will be set. I saw a hole last week that looked a bit suspicious. I’ll get a Mars bar for it when I go shopping.

message 12354: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Morning each! Sun today. The village was cut off for a couple of hours last evening as the storm drains couldn't cope. No actual flooding except across the road. All okay now but everywhere is sodden. Must be a nightmare for those poor people who know they'll not be back in their own homes for months. :(

message 12355: by ✿Claire✿ (new)

✿Claire✿ (clairelm) | 2602 comments Morning :) didn’t see any flooding this morning but my friend had to avoid some on the way into uni. Hope everyone stays as dry as possible.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12599 comments Was very wild last night, started raining about 4 and not sure it stopped. Lot calmer today, but still a bit windy. Had a rubbish night sleep though, so glad it’s Friday. Going to Aldi after work, going to buy my first mince pies, they are doing 4 I want though, might buy all, or might just buy a couple, depends on dates. Although 2 of the ones I want Lidl are also doing this year, so might get some from there instead. Just heard there has been a bad accident near my work.

My old car was too much hassle, so I used to drive with it wrong half the year, one of the clocks in this is dead easy to change, just the second isn’t. Glad the book launch has started well MT, poor vole. Glad you aren’t too badly affected by the weather Kath.

message 12357: by Kelly (new)

Kelly Clayton | 1040 comments Good on you, MT, hope all goes well. I am too chicken to do pre-orders (or maybe too disorganised?)

Since Wednesday, I have been up at 5 am each day, and with clients from 8 am to almost midnight. Another long one today and more meetings over the weekend before I leave Vancouver on Sunday night. Mind you, I won't get home to Jersey until Monday night.

Hopefully, may get a little time to do my own stuff at the weekend.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12599 comments Wow, sounds tiring! Hope it has been worthwhile

Jim | 21812 comments First up best dressed?
Looks like it could be another fine day :-)

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12599 comments Morning all, going clothes shopping with a friend today, but knee is bad this morning, so not looking forward to it, especially after not sleeping well too. At least it is dry. Had to comment about mince pies to the cashier at Aldi, some were already out of date! Then we had to nip to Lidl for milk, and came back with a mince pie strudel. They have brought out so much of the things like cheeses and desserts, but dates are too short to get them yet.

message 12361: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Morning each. It's dry here so that's a bonus, whatever else the day may bring.

message 12362: by Lynne (Tigger's Mum) (last edited Nov 16, 2019 07:30AM) (new)

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Dry here too, last lawn mow of the year hopefully done. Leaves picked up, he made a good job of it too - I was watching from the kitchen window. I was cooking a few things to freeze so wasn’t being totally lazy.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12599 comments Well, that was an enjoyable, if slightly painful shopping trip - seems I can no longer do a 4 hour shop without sitting down! Lost the will to live by the time I got to primark, so ended up coming home with 3 sets of PJ's and some lounge pants - I only wanted lounge pants and only one new top for work, with other random stuff! Got 4 presents though, and discovered a whole load of new vegi sweets, so spent another fortune on them. Discovered a Cats Protection charity shop that had some lovely merchandise in it, could have bought so many things.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12599 comments Morning, gloomy day here, which is good as I need to do a lot of housework. Might even wear the fleecy pj's I bought as daytime ones. Have been awake a while, but Lucy wouldn't let me get out of bed.

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Dark and damp here - and that's only the weather! How I long for a little weak sunshine.

message 12366: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21812 comments We've got it here Kath, pretty near 100% blue sky and distinctly chilly
A bonny day

message 12367: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Eh up! Did a good deed today (still in the rain, incidentally, though it's faired up a bit since). Each time I pass the long barn near the corner I notice that an old pyracantha has been blown from its moornings and hangs over the footpath. Each time, I say I must remember to do something about it. This time, I did. It's now wired back to its support on the wall, but the wind rocked the roots and it's not quite as flush as I'd like. So I went back home (not far) and got a trug and my secatuers and chopped back the sticky-outy bits (technical term there) and now the path is passable.

I hope everyone else has a day to make them happy.

message 12368: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21812 comments It's nice to do a useful and satisfying job isn't it :-)

message 12369: by M.T. (new)

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Phew. Memorial service for Dad done. It was really wonderful, we had great fun although I sobbed at the end in a way I didn't at the funeral. The reading went OK, people came up to me and said I read it well afterwards which is good enough for me. Lots of people came and about as many wrote and said they couldn't, which was lucky, because they wouldn't have fitted into the church.

Now getting ready for the Christmas Fayre. Beautiful day here, but cold, very cold! I popped up to town this morning and am now relaxing. The vole is still somewhere in the utility room so the cat will have to sleep in the conservatory for a while.

Otherwise, all is dandy.

Cheers

MTM

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12599 comments Nice dry day, but had to scrape the car and the temp dropped to 0 while driving! Very sinusy today, not sure why. Not helping the fact that I put my dark glasses in my weekend bag and haven’t transferred them back over.

Very nice of you to do that Kath. Glad you had a lovely memorial service MT.

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Lovely day here today, sunny but no rain thank goodness. I was all ready to stand in to collect them littke lad from school but his dad finished work on time so I was redundant. I had a ‘funny ‘ today. OH’s iPad cover is wearing out so he ordered another. I didn’t pay much attention to the brand as he bought it himself from somewhere directly not Amazon. The only thing I did look up was when I bought the iPad as a present so he got the correct case. I bought it from Apple. This morning first post on my Facebook is an advert for the company who make the covers, why? I’ve even got siri switched off. Big brother is watching or listening? I didn’t know who they were as I’ve only seen the initials UAG on his cover.

Kelly Clayton | 1040 comments Ah, Lynne, that sends a shiver, doesn't it?

Am home. Yippee! Flight from Vancouver was delayed over 2 hours and it was a bit of a dash getting from Heathrow to Gatwick, but I made it in time for the last flight. Mind you, am in London again on Wednesday!

Kath, that was lovely of you.

MT, glad the memorial went well. Hope your mum is okay. x

Jim | 21812 comments glad the service went well, and yes, it does send a shiver Lynne

message 12374: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Glad you had a good service for your dad, MT.

Sunny today but perishing. First hard frost so I gave Mattie Chicken a warm mash, with added mealworms and cod liver oil. Ghastly smell but she loved it.

A day at home with some beta reading planned. A great book that I'm already half way through (started yesterday!)

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12599 comments Headache got so bad at one point the throbbing was making my molars hurt, so had to have an early night. Still a bit headachy and sinusy, but not as bad. Was -2 when I left my house though, the trees in the car park looked very pretty. Got to nip to the co-op after work and friend is meeting me there to give me her list of things she wants me to order for her. Discovered yesterday I had been charged again for NowTV, you can’t ring them, so I used instant chat thing and had a go, appears there are 4 steps to cancelling, but as a consolation they offered me three months for £1.60 each, so I stayed.

Glad you are home safely Kelly, even though it was a bit of a rush! Sorry you are travelling again this week though. Your day sounds much more fun than mine Kath!

message 12376: by Kelly (new)

Kelly Clayton | 1040 comments I was exhausted today - ah well, must be worse ways to earn a living. Left early and catching up with a gazillion things - like paying bills!

Desley, hope you're feeling better. That sounds like a really bad headache.

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Thanks everyone, Mum’s doing fine. It was exhausting but incredibly moving. It feels very final now though. There’s nothing else left to do. He’s gone.

have you had a flu jab Desley, my daughter has been complaining of a really bad headache since hers. Hope you feel better soon.
The mars bar disappeared without springing the trap, it’s a cage with a door. (They also disappeared from inside the house but I owned up to that) . Tonight he’s put the chocolate on a string and caught the culprit eating it. The tiniest little vole - no wonder it didn’t have the weight to spring the door shut. It looked at him, ate some more Mars bar then walked out through the bars, it was so small. I saw a fox too in the street light. crossing the road from the chinese restaurant so wild life is really well fed round here.

Not gone if remembered, and I speak from experience.

Feel better Desley.

Have a good day all.

Darren Humphries (darrenhf) | 6903 comments I should perhaps point out that I have experience of the remembering part, not the being gone part.

message 12381: by Lynne (Tigger's Mum) (new)

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments I often think about you Darren, hope you and your children are well.
Our little vole will be too fat to squeeze through the bars if it eats more chocolate. Crafty little soul couldn’t reach the mars bar so it chewed through the string it was threaded on. Can’t fault it’s logic. I don’t care so long as it isn’t rats. Can’t stand them.
Wicked weather here today. I’m hoping I’m not on the school run but had better not have a glass of wine with lunch just in case. I’m on standby anyway.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12599 comments Clearly had some lingering effects from the headache yesterday, left my wing wondering whether I had actually put my phone in my bag, but needed to text my friend as I was going to the co-op so came back and made an excuse that I needed to speak to my boss about something to counter act the sarcastic comments, luckily he gave me some work which I had to put on my desk, but no phone! So left, and rummaged in my bag to no avail, but the car told me it was in my car. When I got home, I took everything out of my bag, still no phone – discovered I’d put it in my lunch bag! Then had to text my friend while in co-op, and spent 10 mins searching for it when I got home to find I’d put it in my coat pocket! Tried the new self-service till at Co-op, it shouted at me that much that I forgot I’d gone specifically to use a voucher! But then got one for cat food so used it straight away. Temp was 3 this morning so didn’t have to scrape the car. Going to the cheap shop after work, unless neighbour changes her mind!

Aww, I’m glad your mum seems to be doing fine MT, it is a strange feeling when the last thing is done. I did have my flu jab a couple of weeks ago Lynne, I have had a cough since, but forgot to tell the asthma nurse that! Aww, bless the little vole.

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Thanks for the offer Scott, sadly I'm too old.

Lynn, our vole is still at large under our fridge as far as I can tell. There's nothing for it to mate with here so we've kind of give up for now!

Just went to Sussex today, was stuck at the tunnel for an hour and a half and then for another hour on the M11. So long that I had to park the car on the hard shoulder, climb up the bank and have a wee ... still that got the traffic moving, at once!

Cheers

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments I had an interesting time last night. Our book group had decided to discuss my last book. Didn't result in more sales as, being Yorkshire women, the ones who'd already bought it passed theirs on! Still, apart from their interest in the book itself - and I'm pleased to say they enjoyed it - many wanted to ask about how you write a book. Choosing the characters, working on the plot, do you have every detail planned out before you start (NO!). An interesting evening.
By heck, it's flipping cold here!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12599 comments Did end up going to the cheap shop last night, was going to go to Lidl tonight as they release some alcohol gift sets I want to nosy at, but my knee was that bad this morning it took 3 goes to be able to bend it enough to get out of bed, so think I’ll leave it till tomorrow. Not that I can rest that much though, I have about half a dozen things to do tonight.

Bet that was interesting Kath – wonder if it will result in some of them buying some of your other books?

message 12387: by Lynne (Tigger's Mum) (new)

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Cold and very very wet here. Husband says the dog needs a rain hat and a tail cover, it’s that bad.
Hoping I’ve not got to go out for the school run. There’s no shelter at all while waiting as they have to keep gates locked for security. I’m not against that for the children’s sake and protection but it really makes you wonder about the state of society. Very sad.

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4836 comments Been extra busy with community stuff this week, and tonight my folksinging groups will have its second meeting. We had a lovely time two weeks ago, and I'm officially sponsored by the Performing Arts Committee (I told the woman in charge I'm not against performing, but we really should practice first).

No rain in California in our part yet - but has a true Blustery Day yesterday, so I couldn't ride the Airwheel to the doctor's office only a few blocks away, but had the usual interested questions.

So glad you got your book discussed, Kath - I haven't had that yet, and I hope I do some day.

Glad you found your phone, Desley.

Sounds like the Memorial Service was special, MT.

I think about you and the kids, too, Darren.

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Morning each! Off to my friend's where several of us retirees (escapees?) meet occasionally to have our hair cut. Trim time! The following one is the week before Christmas. A new meaning for Christms trimmings. Must remember to take along next year's diary.

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments My poor daughter hasn’t been well since her flu jab, she was ill at work yesterday and asked for help on her round. Her ‘manager’ asked if she wanted a round of applause! She came home and collapsed in the doorway crying her eyes out she felt so ill. The doctor sent an ambulances this morning and the paramedics have taken her to hospital. I kept the little lad fed and occupied then took him to school etc. I had a bad feeling that all wasn’t well so when she phoned me this morning I was already up and dressed so I got there in 5 minutes. Her employer’s Royal Mail have some seriously bad management skills.

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4836 comments Sorry to hear.

And yes, that sounded rather heartless. They need some retraining for humanity.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12599 comments Knee only slightly better, was very windy last night, not sure we got daylight yesterday and haven’t so far today. Got to go to the retail park after work for some of Lucy’s arthritis treats and apparently Asda are selling mince pie yoghurts, it is annoying my neighbour has stopped telling me she is going to a particular shop and then comes home and tells me they are selling something she knows I would like, so I have to go to said shop, she used to just pick them up for me. Then we are going to Lidl, although might leave that till tomorrow. Glad it’s Friday, quite tired today.

Hope you had a good time in London R. Blimey, that seems early for Christmas lights Kelly. Glad you are doing a lot of community stuff Alicia, hope it isn’t too tiring for you. Sorry to hear your daughter has been so ill since her flu jab Lynne, do hope the hospital sort her out, what a heartless reaction from her manager.

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments A few weeks ago a faulty drain cover pivoted and she slipped straight down with one leg straight and the the other at right angles bruising herself very badly. They thought it funny at the office. They treated it as sick leave not a workplace accident and put her on a stage warning. If she has a day off now which she has today she’s due to be dismissed - she’s worked there over 20 years. No wonder the posties voted to strike over bullying and work conditions but the strike was judged illegal as they opened their ballot forms in work. It’s a disgrace.

That's absolutely fucking shocking. I'm sorry. I hope she's OK.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12599 comments Hmm, trip to retail park was interesting, had to deal with idiot drivers getting in and parking, so forgot some of what I went for, but managed to come back with a lot of cat food, though some for neighbour too. Did go to Lidl, didn't come back with much, and nipped to the chippy, they have started selling halloumi fries, look a bit like fish fingers, they were OK. Can't wait for bed now!

That is disgraceful Lynne, do they not have a union?

message 12400: by Lynne (Tigger's Mum) (new)

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments She’s going to need the Union Desley. She’s really really ill. She’s still in the A&E bed unit. If they can keep her still they’ll do a lumbar puncture they don’t know if it’s meningitis or encephalitis but according to the scan she’s got swelling in her head. She’s in so much pain and totally incoherent. Hard to keep her still and she’s on a drip to rehydrate and medicate and a bladder catheter. I’m really shocked how ill she is. I came home at 11 as her Dad came and sat with her all night. Her partner hasn’t seen her yet but not through negligence he’s had the little lad to look after. We will do a swap today and I’ll have Harry while he goes to see her. To complicate matters it’s raining so hard the roads are awash so need to take care driving.
