M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Sounds like good days Alicia and Jim. Breakfast with the rellies and then they are off to another branch of the family in Bristol. I’ll do my holy thing, because as you all know, I’m incredibly holy (phnark) and then it’s packing, washing and if I’m lucky, I might get a bit of writing done.

Cheers

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12598 comments Have been up a while, but had lovely cuddles with Lucy after her meds, only got up because I'm starving. Doesn't look like we will get any rain today. Got some housework to do, but my neighbours lodger who moved to Malta has come back to live in the UK this week, so not sure if my neighbour will want to do anything with them.

Doesn't sound that bad a day Alicia. Glad that GR is notifying you again MT, great news about the competition! Hope you have fun with the rellies.

Kelly Clayton | 1040 comments Well, helllloooooo. I lost the address to the party but finally found it in an old notebook.
So, here's what happened. I was last in here on 28th September (Yep!!!). I had a lovely morning at the Jersey Festival of Words, and a fab catch-up with Desley.
I had (note "had"!) a deadline of 9th October to get my latest offering out for the copyedit. Decided NO social media unless vital, as I was a "teeny" bit behind.
All was going well but still had a lot to do when it all crashed, literally, on Sunday the 6th. My laptop screen was shaking, shivering and shuddering, and the cursor kept freezing. Noooooo. Anyway, long short short, laptop is bust (as the nice man at Microsoft online chat said at midnight on the Sunday when I'd been online to him for HOURS).
Deadline got moved to last week, had to use hubby's laptop, and download a free trial of word. Made new deadline. New laptop arrives next week. And breath . . .
Then realised I couldn't find my Goodreads password and have been hunting for it all morning. Luckily, I rarely chuck a notebook away.
Now going back to see what you lot have been up to. xxx

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12598 comments I did wonder why you had been so quiet, but I knew you had a deadline, so assumed between that and the day job you just didn't have time! Glad you have had a back up computer, good luck with the new one.

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Morning me duck. Off to Portugal tomorrow and it's pissing down. Means picking the last tomatoes may not happen - I picked them but more came on so I left them thinking that if they ripen, bonus, but if they don't never mind. They've ripened so I'll probably have to pick them in the rain.

Have also been working through the characters in the K'Barthan Series with Gareth, deciding what everyone is going to sound like. It's a complete scream. A lot of his first impressions are very similar to mine. Which is grand.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12598 comments Struggling a bit with my eyes again today, might have to use allergy drops tonight, they are very itchy today as well. Very quiet in the office due to half term, and was a lovely journey to work. Started drizzling on the way, but now got blue sky. Need to ring the vets on the way home, Lucy has a lump at the side of her nose.

Jim | 21812 comments Another fine day, who'd have believed it!
Busy yesterday, not just work but the funeral of the husband of a friend and then I had to go up to Coniston to explain how the foodbank works.
A very pleasant evening for a drive in the South Lakes :-)

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments Was a lovely fine day yesterday too but that north easterly got up later and now it is really rather cold out. Never mind I am mostly indoors today, painting trees.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12598 comments Woke up early and so stiff that I couldn’t get comfy again in bed, so had to get up early, was still a bit stiff at 11.30! Eyes slightly better, although I forgot my ‘normal’ glasses so am on the dark tinted ones. We had a lovely sky when I was driving to work, still slightly pink. Friend’s husband is coming round tonight to try and fix the door, fingers crossed it works.

I find carrying the tree out of the house once I've painted it can be a bit of a beggar, paint gets everywhere :-(

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments I’m home! All seems well but it was dark so I hope there’s no nasty surprises in the garden.
We stopped at Membury to get bread etc. It was a Waitrose services. I bought eggs, bacon and a sliced loaf. The eggs were the last on the shelf a box of 4. I thought posh people who shop in Waitrose could afford 6 but still I needed eggs. £2 for 4 eggs. That’s ten bob each in old money! Kath - your chucks must be worth their weight in gold 😁

Good morning from Portugal.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12598 comments Not much better today, but I’m going to try and be more positive and stop complaining – hard though, as I normally get better support here than from my neighbour, and the cats certainly aren’t much help! Annoyingly woke up at 5.30, typical as we are going to the cheap shop tonight. Thought I was going to have to scrape the car this morning, but luckily it had just warmed up enough when I got in it. New handbag has arrived, can only fit phone, kindle and tablets in or phone and purse, so certainly not suitable for work, but would be OK if I’m just popping out or going for lunch etc, so will keep it as I love the pattern and it did only cost £3.45 – just means I need one that I can actually use for work. Friend’s husband came round, decided to take the door off to make it easier, and when we took the bottom hinge off, some of the wood fell out, so that was clearly worse than the top one! He has used a mixture of dowels, match sticks and glue in the hope it will last until the bathroom is done, but will have to ask the builder if he can splice both hinges! It certainly doesn’t shut like it used to! I wear a lot of purple, and was reading an article yesterday about what colours you wear mean about you – apparently purple means unique and special! The last paragraph said ‘if you would like to send a message out into the world that you’re one of a kind and could care less about conformity, wear purple’!

Glad you got home ok Lynne. Hope you are enjoying Portugal MT, one of my colleagues is there this week and one is going next week! Making me think I need to check it out.

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments We just got away on the right day as there were terrible storms yesterday. Lots of serious flooding, with cars washed away. It’s nice to be back.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12598 comments Woke up early again today, unfortunately it is a rather gloomy day, can’t decide if it is drizzling or misty. Nearly didn’t go shopping last night, there had been an accident so traffic was bad, but am glad we did, discovered that fruit salad and blackjack sweets are vegetarian, not sure when that happened, but was very happy! Then had to nip into the Co-op for milk for my neighbour, and I ended up buying 3 books, plus there are some kindle ones I want when I get paid tomorrow – am wondering whether my inability to stop buying is related to giving up my voluntary work? My boss is 40 today, we’ve decorated his office with balloons and banners and bought him a cake, which we are hoping he is going to share with us this afternoon.

Glad you are enjoying yourself MT.

Anna Faversham (annafaversham) | 1752 comments I've been back from holiday (every day a sunny one) for just over a week and I'm getting colder by the minute. I've resorted to heating up those 'wheat bags' or whatever they are called. Put them in the microwave and they become a source of warmth for hours. If you have some lingering in the back of a cupboard, now's the time to remember them.

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments It's been another glorious autumn day here today, apart from half an hour in the afternoon when it suddenly went dark and we had rain like someone was hosing the windows. Then clear blue sky again. But the washing was soaked so it's still out :)
Big fan of wheat bags, although don't overdo them in the microwave or you get the great smell of singed grains.

message 12227: by M.T. (new)

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments I'd you really overdo the wheat bags they catch fire. A lady who used to come to my church who had a really bad back did that and it turned her sheets brown! 🤣🤣🤣

Anna Faversham (annafaversham) | 1752 comments I was going to add something about not putting the wheat bags in the microwave for too long but it's too complicated! I probably should have done but the timing depends on the size of the wheat bag - but thanks for mentioning that M.T. and Rosemary.

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments Morning all - hi Patti!

I missed the aurora borealis last night again, apparently. And shooting stars :( They should do these things during the day when I'm awake.

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments I managed to see some shooting stars the other day but purely by happenstance rather than design.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12598 comments Well, we had some really heavy rain last night and now it is raining again! Woke up ridiculously early, have tried eating, drinking and painkillers but can't get back to sleep. Got to nip to the post office and the chemist, then got to drive to some warehouse in Halifax (about half an hour away) for my neighbour, hope it stops raining.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12598 comments Blimey, quiet in here! Well, that ended up a very exhausting day. After posting, I was juggling things and managed to drop the laptop on my toe, luckily don't think I've done any damage. Got my errands done in the rain to find the waterproof coat I bought either this year or last isn't that waterproof, I had wet arms when I got home. Went to the place in Halifax for my neighbour and got quite a bit myself, so worthwhile, and it was opposite a Tesco superstore, so managed to go in there and spend another fortune, although half was for neighbour, so not too bad! It was such a badly laid out Tesco that we walked round and round finding things I wanted. Finally finished the costa voucher by treating myself to a hot choc and cake. I got home and neighbours lodger wanted to go to Lidl, so offered to go with him, unfortunately got to the till to find I didn't have my purse, got home to find I'd put it on the stairs after putting money from neighbour in it!! Think part of my brain fog was not having anything since breakfast, which I didn't finish. Plus side is I've done 7869 steps, but feel exhausted. Neighbour has offered me stew for tea, have said yes, but think I'll take it to work for lunch.

Me neither, I thought it was supposed to be so early workers can go to work in daylight, or is it so school kids go home in daylight, whichever it is, it doesn’t work, as we get up and drop off McMini in the dark and picked him up in the dark throughout his 9-3pm school career. It will be completely dark each end now.

Sadly the forecast isn’t so great for our last few days here, never mind. Over the sunny period I’ve extended a short by about 5k so it’s in line with the others in the series and done a fair bit of donkey work on one of the others. It’s all go.

Cheers

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Good morning from Leeds! Last day of our quilting get-together, mildly messed about by the 12 hour closing of Leeds station. No train near our friend's till after lunch, so the visit is a little longer than planned. See you all on the other side.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12598 comments Well, I forgot about the clocks changing till I happened to look at 2 clocks together, and realised what I thought was 7.30 was really 6.30! Managed to get a bit more sleep anyway. Got quite a bit of housework to do today, typical as the sun is shining today.

Funnily enough Alicia, it was burning less than the last few days! Sounds like you are doing well writing wise MT. How come they have shut Leeds station for 12 hours Kath, surely it's too busy to do that? Good excuse to stay longer with friends though

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Building work for something that will improve our lives!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12598 comments Everything done apart from deciding what to have for tea, just running a bath. Had an interesting hour, had just opened the door to let Lucy out when I saw my neighbour, who told me the rabbit was on the street, got a puzzled Lucy in, and neighbour asked if I could take the rabbit home as she had no shoes on - I also had no shoes on, as I was in my PJ's and dressing gown. I normally have a rule of not leaving the street in my PJs and dressing gown, but will bend it for animals, so herded the rabbit home, knocked on the owners door who was mortified and made me go in the garden to prove he does have a decent hutch and then got me to see if I could see how he is getting out - they have a metal enclosure in front of his hutch and have used cable ties, brick, wood and tarpaulin to prevent him escaping, but it's now happening every other night, and if they shut him in the hutch, he thumps which also disturbs the neighbours. They were either very polite for grateful not to comment on my attire!!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12598 comments Was woken up at 6am by a neighbour making loads of random noises, so was up early, it was a lot lighter than last week, but unfortunately only 1 degree and had to find the ice scraper! Tried changing the clocks in the car while waiting, first one was fine, it’s just one button, second however went very wrong and while the time is right, it now has a date of 30 November 2050! Lovely blue skies today, much better than the last two days, we ended up with rain yesterday. Did notice last night that I have a lovely bruise from dropping the laptop on my foot, luckily it’s only at the base of my big toenail, so not painful at all.

Sorry the laptop still isn’t sorted Kelly.
