Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments Morning all. We don't seem to be getting daylight today

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Sorry Rosemary, I’ve got it all. It’s getting boring though all this bright blue sky with no clouds everyday. 😋
It is slightly cooler though but that suits me if I’ve got things to do.
We’ve cut the grapes off the vine and now have an invasion of stink bugs. I’ve never seen them here like that but they are creepy things they hide in the curtain folds creeping in over the mossie blinds and yesterday one came in through the key hole. Billy barks at them when he sees them. They are quite big and slow moving with brown patterns on their backs and they make a noise when they fly.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12599 comments Urgh, feel like I’m coming down with a cold – not sure if it is from the travelling or my colleague who has a bad cough. Need to go to chemist and co-op after work. Unfortunately couldn’t get everything done before the cleaner came, as the new steam mop arrived yesterday so had to put it together for her to use! Even had to tell my friend to come today instead. Eye seems OK with just using anti-histamine drops so trying it again today. Need to ring rheumatology though, still not got an app through. Knee only marginally better after two weeks of increased meds, so going to drop them back down again tomorrow. Got in today to find my spoon has been found and our cleaner wrote this note to go with it! “Sorry I ran away, what a naughty cat I am but I’m home now where I belong. Meow meow.”

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments How do? Just written 1792 words and I think this is the final in my little collection of stories. Going to celebrate with a cup of tea!

Husband's out for the day tomorrow. Sister is cooking tea on Sunday too, so I'm going to have a lazy, reading weekend!

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Hello everyone, Rosemary, I’m so glad that the land that gave us Tunnocks is not banning snacking, I feel that would have been a travesty.

Kath that’s amazing, great going.

Desley I hope you are feeling better soon, knee pain is a real pisser. Sending much sympathy.

Lynn, stink bugs sound gross!

Cheers

MTM

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Also, stop press. Spent over an hour talking to the bloke who wants to do my ebooks. It’s a long time to do silly voices at someone but it was great fun discussing the characters and working out how they might sound. He still seems completely up for it. It’s great.

Cheers

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4836 comments I had the second half of the new shingles vaccine - and my arm was sore for a week. I should be protected now - but it seems the older I get, the harder the actual shots hit.

Still need to get the flu shot, but also need to plan for a couple of days out of commission.

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments I read up on stink bugs apparently if you squash them it encourages more as the name implies -they stink. No wonder the dog could detect them. Creepy little buggers. They have lovely markings and aren’t destructive but I haven’t seen any geckos so I wonder if that’s why now we are seeing them. Slightly cooler here this morning with condensation on the cars outside. OH is settling down to watch the rugby and I’m going out for a girlie lunch. . I may be gone for quite some time 😁

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12599 comments Unfortunately got housework to do, need to go to the tip, get some petrol and some food shopping, and try and fix my bedroom door. Supposed to be dry until 6 though.

Thanks Mary. Glad that you had a great phone call with the audio book person. Never heard of stink bugs Lynne, but they don't sound nice. Enjoy your girlie lunch. Thanks for the reminder Alicia, I need to book my flu jab, due bloods next month so will time it with that.

message 12116: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Morning! Yay for the audiobook, Mary.
Had my jabs a week ago. Flu in one arm, shingles in the other. I said I was glad I didn't have three arms. The shingles vaccine is live, so that's probably why it makes people feel rather put about.

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Thanks everyone, if anyone wants a listen to the second audio draft, or would like to know about my New Release (yeh! Don't faint!) here's a cheeky link to my blog post about it. If that's naughty, feel free to delete me Patti or Ro.

https://mtmcguire.co.uk/2019/10/05/ne...

Shots are horrible, I always get an achy arm when I have them too. I wonder if I should have the shingles one, although I've already had shingles so probably not!

Cheers

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Loved that recording, Mary.
Husband has had shingles but they advised him still to have the vaccine.

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments I've managed to explode a wall socket by hoovering today. That's what you get for doing housework! There was the most awful smell of burning but no fuses blew... I couldn't get the plug out of the socket so I had to turn off the electricity, remove the plate, disconnect it and screw all the wires into a spare block I found in the toolbox. I know what I'm doing up to a point - nothing went bang when I switched the power back on. Think I'll get an actual electrician to fit a new socket though! Husband used to all that sort of thing but now he's blind that's no longer an option.

Now wondering whether it's worth cutting the flex on the hoover and fitting a new plug to see if it's still working, or just never hoovering again.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12599 comments Phew, errands ended up a lot longer than expected, as had to go to extra places for stuff for neighbour. So not done as much housework as I'd like, or tried to fix the bedroom door but there is always tomorrow. Trying to warm up now and throat is getting sore again. At least eyes are coping with reduced drops. Neighbour is cooking soup for tea.

Glad you managed to sort it out R, I'd probably leave hoovering till the electrician has been.

I had no thought about its aliveness or deadness - but two of our parents had shingles, and it doesn't sound pleasant, and we're of the generation which got chicken pox and has the nasty virus lurking in our cells for life.

A poke is a small price for some protection, but I've been surprised at how long the body reacted.

Unfortunately, you can get shingles over and over, and it is likely to be in a time of stress. Talk with docs, but you probably should get the shot.

No longer on our To Do list - they clean this place every two weeks and suck up all the dust.

It's really nice to have someone else in charge of bathrooms. And the kitchen husband loves to actually cook in.

message 12124: by Lynne (Tigger's Mum) (new)

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments I think to get a free shingles shot you have to be 70. That’s a long wait Mary.
I wasn’t eligible when little lad had chickenpox but I’m not sure how the virus works. I didn’t get them anyway thank goodness as it’s a rotten illness. My ma in law had them on her scalp and face when she was in hospital with MRSA so she was put into isolation. Everyone I know who's had them says they are extremely painful.
Lunch was very good I just got home in time for tea 😀

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12599 comments Got woke up at 5.20 by people arguing outside, then Lucy wanted breakfast at 8.30, so a bit tired and got a yucky throat. Think I might have to re-visit the to do list and decide what is essential and what can wait! Coming home yesterday noticed the Christmas lights have been put up already! Don't know why, they don't get switched on till end Nov. Neighbour made pumpkin soup, so I asked her to save me the pumpkin seeds to roast, unfortunately they must have been too wet when I put them on the kitchen roll to dry as a lot have stuck. Will roast what I can, when I'm making my stuffed Yorkshire pudding for tea.

Ah, I did wonder if there would be an age thing for the shingles vacc. I bet it is nice to have someone in charge of the cleaning Alicia - love the pic on your blog.

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Yep. I had the shingles jab. Now you all know I'm 70!

It has been such a psychological boost, Desley - I was NOT ready for a scooter or a wheelchair. People have been fascinated, though not too many think they'd get one.

Thanks for checking out the blog!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12599 comments Chest and throat still aren’t great, damp weather probably isn’t helping – not sure it has stopped raining today! Pretty much finished everything by 6 yesterday (admittedly a couple of things were a bit half hearted!) so decided to risk having a bath – not sure my knee appreciated it though. The muscles round my knee feel quite tense, so wondering if it is muscular rather than joint pain – I may have thought the extra anti-inflams weren’t doing much, but there is a difference in pain levels now I’m back on one a day, so slightly increasing them to 1 a day, 2 a day, 1 a day etc. Must ring rheumatology to see if my app has been sorted yet and if they can chase physio for me. Have stopped my anti-histamine drops today, trying just the dry eye drops and managing OK so far, good eye is a bit stingy but bearable. Messed up my prescriptions so have rang the doc and hopefully will be able to pick it up after work and go straight to the chemist.

✿Claire✿ (clairelm) | 2602 comments Evening all. I've been really terrible about checking back in! I finished my course, all qualified, just waiting for my name to appear on the professional register and then I'm good to go!! It's been a bit all go with work lately as well, finally getting a chance to stop for a bit the beginning of this week :)

I'm going to try and get on here more. I'm finally reading things again so I should be on every time I finish a book at least!

Was a year since I lost Narla at the beginning of the month, can't believe that has gone so fast. Jess and I had plenty of cuddles that day, she's always happy to snuggle up, woke me up after a night shift one day just to get me to let her under the duvet!

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Good morning all, Another flawless blue sky day here. Not got anything much planned - we booked the return trip, vets/hotel/tunnel (in that order) for the the week before the 31st in case there’s a rush on the tunnel like there’s was in March. Never seen so many dogs at Pets Control ever that day. Think I’ve done all my shopping to bring back, he’s been to a wine fair and stocked up a bit but I’d like to get some perfume for me and for presents. Grasse is full of perfume producers. Some of the best ‘noses ‘ in the world live in the village, no exaggeration.

Sunny at the moment so I'm off out to collect my Bird's Egg beans for drying.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12599 comments Cough seems worse today, really hoping it’s not turning into anything more. Have decided not to just stop my eye drops but taper them down, so doing every other day this week – they are still slightly puffy.

Nice to see you again Claire, glad you are qualified now, congrats! And great you now have time to read. Wow, that has gone by quick, glad Jess has been a big help. Don’t blame you for coming back before 31st Oct Lynne.

Got the cover template downloaded from Lightning Source and sent it to the designer. Always nice to have a chat as well. ;-)

Patti, glad the end is in sight.

Desley, hope you feel better soon.

Claire congrats and glad Jess is as lovely as Narla was.

Kath, enjoy the bean picking!

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Morning

I was away visiting a pal in England over the weekend, we did a half marathon at Colchester Zoo which was so cool, we have a photo of us near the end running past the elephants, (it only started and ended in the zoo, the most of it was in the roads around the zoo). It was such a lovely weekend.

Congrats Claire!

I hope everyone with colds recover quickly

message 12140: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Power cut last night. It lasted well over an hour, and we went to bed eventually, fed up of waiting for it to come back on. It makes you realise how much we depend on power - our internet connection, etc. Bit sobering, really.

But, on the up side, it's sunny again, Cold, but sunny. :)

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments Power cuts are a pain, as you say Kath it shows how reliant we are on power for how we live today. The excitement of candle light soon wears off!

Not cold here particularly but we have permagale. Good for the laundry so long as you peg it on firmly enough

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Sometimes I let my mind drift into apocalypse territory and think about how life would be different without electricity.

For one thing, we'd never hear from each other ever again. :o(

It gives me palpitations to think about

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments I've been out for a walk on the beach.

My ears were streaming behind me like Piglet's were on the Blustery Day.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12599 comments I clearly am fighting something, was a struggle to stay up till 9pm last night! Obviously woke up early, but meant I could come in early, which I normally do on a Wed, but not going food shopping tonight. Still feel quite drained, although the weather isn’t helping, it is alternating between dry and heavy rain, even felt like hail on part of the journey this morning, and had to use my lights.

Sorry you also have a cold MT. Sounds like you are doing well book wise. Sounds a good weekend Jud. I loved power cuts as a kid Kath, not sure I like them now mind! Although at least with a back lit kindle, you can still read. Ooh, I don’t like that thought Jud!

They're predicting high winds (it's howling outside) for California, and the power company is getting prepared to turn the power off where there may be potential for tree/power line interactions that lead to the devastating fires because the land is so dry after the summer.

We have stored some extra water, and all devices are powered up, but we don't have to go out in this weather, and I pray for those who do.

Does this mean the system decided she was TOO outspoken and banned her?

First time - and it seems to have resulted in a razed-earth digital removal.
