Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12599 comments Woke up at 5am again, have had a bit more sleep, but it doesn't feel enough, and now it is too sunny to stay in bed. Quite a bit of housework, including a pile of ironing, and hoping it might be nice enough to sit outside and finish my book. Have been reading some articles on the spoon website, was really helpful and made me realise some of my feelings about thinking I should do more are completely normal. Now just to stop myself feeling bored when I watch TV.

Typically she has been fine since Alicia, but at least now we have a years worth of meds for her. It is irritating when people move things, suspect a colleague thought hiding it would be a fun thing to do.

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments Morning! Another cracker of a day here, very cold to start with but will warm up nicely in the sun.
The way I found to stop being bored by watching TV Desley was to stop watching it ;)

Ah, but I want to watch TV!

Victoria Prescott (victoria_prescott) | 42 comments Morning all. Sunny but chilly here too. Good weather for a walk, but I want to keep going with the indoor jobs, having made a good start yesterday.

I haven't had a telly for a few months. Haven't really missed it, but I expect I'll get a new one at some point.

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Morning

Found out this morning that one of my parent's best friends is possibly dying, she was taken to Newcastle for an emergency heart transplant but is now too weak to have surgery. Irony is her husband is a cardiologist. Life sucks. She has had cancer twice and mum said they reckon it was the second lot of treatment that weakened her heart. It's so unfair. I'm sitting in work with watery eyes trying not to greet so I'm going to stop talking about it.

I hope the anti histamine drops help your eyes Desley

Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments Really sorry to hear that Jud. I've always thought that in some ways I was lucky, losing my last surviving parent by the time I was 24. Always known I was spared this.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12599 comments Ended up going out for tea last night, somewhere we used to go a lot, but then the vegi option changed, now it is better vegan than vegi, except desserts. Had a lovely meal though, I opted for the B12 burger, and then couldn’t decide between two desserts, but both did a mini option, so had one of each. It was really nice being able to put eye makeup on, only the third time since the beginning of June. Raining, but we didn’t have any over the weekend. Lucy is clearly OK, she tried to catch a pigeon this morning, not sure who was more shocked! My eye must be reacting to something at work (not that surprising, we do have a lot of trees, shrubs and plants round the building) as it has started swelling again while I’ve been here and not as comfortable as it has been over the weekend.

So sorry to hear that Jud.

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Morning!

Got a meeting in 7 minutes, better check if there is anything I need to do before it starts.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12599 comments Was disturbed at 5.30 by one of the neighbours putting recycling out, not sure why as he is retired, so could do it at any time! At least we have blue skies today, although it was single figures and I wished I had a pair of gloves in my bag, unfortunately they are all in my weekend bag. Food shopping after work. No sign of my spoon, spoke to the cleaner who said she definitely put it in the dishwasher on Thu, I’ve said one of my colleagues has probably hidden it as a joke, if she could check desks while emptying the bins. She left a note saying nowhere to be seen, but offered to buy a new one, I’ll tell her not to worry.

message 11915: by Kelly (new)

Kelly Clayton | 1040 comments So very sorry to hear that, Jud.

Will, I certainly agree with you. I lost my mum at 14 and dad at 23.

Sorry I've not been on here much. I have deadlines coming out my ears, and we are having loads of work done at home, which distracts me and the mess jangles my brain. New windows, roof painted, gutters, marley board cladding, rendered, new doors, new balcony glass, blah, blah, blah. Been going on since June!

House is a tip, with furniture piled everywhere. Figure it will take another 2 months or so!

I just saw this on Amazon, has anyone else heard of it? https://www.amazon.co.uk/b/ref=s9_acs...

PS I cannot remember why I thought that, or whether it was correct

The down side of being an author! I just thought I'd have seen something in this group about it. But then I didn't look in to it at all, I just saw the headline and it caught my attention

Yes, I've seen it but far too late to get anything ready for it. If you're interested, diarise it for next year?

Kelly Clayton | 1040 comments The Kindle Storyteller's been going for a few years now. I remember reading the small-print at some point and not liking something about it, but for the life of me can't remember why!

Getting decidedly autumnal. I do like the change in seasons. Mind you, our boiler broke in March and we haven't fixed it yet as, long story, we need to raise the floor in the basement boiler room. That's the next job on the list so we can have some heating.

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Sitting in the sun with a coffee - bliss. We had a three day road trip, big dog was so good, not a woof out of him in the hotels, he saved his barks for a man in uniform standing too close to the car. He has a thing about high viz jackets and uniforms - better not take him anywhere near a Gilets Jaunes demonstration then, he’llbark at both sides. His bark actually hurts my ears. He did bark last night acting the fool and the glass vases on the sideboard were ringing. It’s incredible.
House was fine, it’s got a big crack outside near the roof from the dryness so might have to have some work done, it smelt very musty from being shut all summer but I’ve cleaned non stop yesterday and we can relax today. Man and dog are out walking in the sunshine. I’m on holiday. Yippeeeeeee!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12599 comments Well, got home to a letter from rheumatology, which I feel is a bit mixed. X-rays, scan, MRI and bloods have all come back normal, which is good in that they have decided I don’t need my medication changing, which I didn’t want. However, it says this will be reviewed in clinic in due course, which doesn’t really help me now! So not sure if I should ring them back and see if that means I need to go to the doc as it’s not my bones, and maybe need physio or a steroid injection, or if I need to wait for a follow up with them to decide a course of action. My boss suggested just booking in with a physio and seeing if they find anything, and then going to the doc, which has made me feel much better. Another colleague has suggested a knee support (which I had contemplated, but wanted to get results first, in case I made it worse) and new shoes. I had a horrible night sleep, woke up at 1.30 overheating and was still awake at 4, then I don’t think I got in a deep sleep in case I overslept. Good eye is stingy, and anti-histamine drops finished last night. Luckily, we have cake today and tomorrow.

Good luck getting heating sorted Kelly. Sounds lovely Patti, me and a friend joke about opening a café/bookshop, but we think we'd eat and read too much to make any money. Enjoy your holiday Lynne. Sorry about your mums' best friend Jud.

Shizz sorry to hear that Jud. If it's any consolation, one of my ex colleagues died of cancer last week. She was younger than me. Properly sucky. People seem to be going down like flies at the moment.

The 'readers play a significant part' bit is just a way of saying, this is a competition to see which author has the biggest social media following, and the one who does will get the most votes and win.

Not that I'm cynical.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments IT IS FRIDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

message 11935: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21812 comments Yes too many of these book competitions are merely competitions between authors as to who has the most social media followers who can be motivated to vote.
From the organiser's point of view, they're cheap to organise, the authors do the work and the organisers are spared the toil of reading all those books

Like Mary I remain unsullied by cynicism

Morning all. Another fine day in prospect. Final days at my beach hut studio for this summer, then I'll be gone like the swallows...

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Breakfast outside, it’s lovely and warm. I shall be like a house side if I go to the bakers every day. There’s a new patisserie opened run by a young chap and his sister. The bread is wonderful and the cakes - well I’m not even looking at them. The up side is it’s the other side of the village so it’s a nice walk. I had a pain viennois. Like a long brioche full of chocolate chips. I intended to have a couple of slices with coffee but it seems to have all gone already before I got to the table 😀😀

Well that's disappointing.

Morning

Came in to an email titled IMMEDIATE ATTENTION NEEDED, one summary document had the wrong information copied in it so I just pasted in the correct info and job done. Doesn't seem worth the sense of urgency to me.

Ugh, at least I now have my business bank details so I can actually make use of my pay!

message 11944: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Good moaning. It's not cynicism it's wisdom. My theory to which I stick more formly than I do at present to my kitchen floor.

Off out at lunchtime to meet old friends from work and get our hair trimmed at the same time.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12599 comments Got a bit more sleep last night, fortunately. Randomly got home to a letter from the doc saying they’d received the neurology response and could I ring to make an app – but he just said take supplements and you don’t need to come back, so not sure why I need to waste my time seeing her, will ring and see if they know why. Discovered this morning that I can self refer to NHS physio, so when I ring about the letter, I’ll ask how I go about that, although neighbour thinks osteopath will be better, might ring those and ask what they think. Rheumatology just left a message saying they’d try back later, annoying you can only ring a voicemail service when you work and limited time to speak in private. Got to go to the retail park after work for my neighbour and nip to the co-op for me, between the weather and lack of sleep, I couldn’t be bothered last night.

Not sure the cats would affect my joints R, but I have wondered if they are cause of the eyes, although if that’s the case I’ll just have to have them for life, can’t get rid of the cats, although the timing doesn’t really work, I’ve not had any new cats in the house for nearly 2 years now, and even though the girls have access to nearly all the house now, they have had that since March. That is a sobering thought MT. It certainly is Jim, but I’m feeling more positive about it today.

Cynical, us?

I once apologised for my cynicism saying that is was an industrial disease in agriculture.
The person merely commented that it wasn't a disease, it was the entry qualification

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12599 comments Up early again, hopefully might get a nap in a bit. Blue skies, but very chilly, need to wait for it to warm up to start washing! Even think the heating came on for a bit. The receptionist agreed to the doctor ringing me next week rather than making an appointment, fingers crossed she just wants to check I'm OK with things, and I have a form to self refer to physio. Had an expensive trip to the retail park, went for 5 boxes of cat food for neighbour, and came back with 3 for mine! Must take it all out of the boot today. Not much on today, neighbour wanted me to go out for tea with her family, but they have chosen the place we went to last week, and as nice as it was and I had lots of options, think it is a bit soon to go back!

message 11949: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4836 comments Does it save money in the long run to get the cat food in bulk?

Or are there less expensive places to get the same brand?

message 11950: by Kelly (new)

Kelly Clayton | 1040 comments Morning. Been up since stupid o'clock as the window fitters and the blokes cladding the house are working today. We now only have one room - the loo - that actually has any blinds up (we don't have curtains). So need to get my shower in early and then get dressed in the loo!

Going into town to get my hair done and then just getting on with all the stuff I need to be getting on with.

Happy Saturday!
