Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments Even your presence couldn't have livened that up.

Badly prepared, poorly presented and with typical HMRC attitude.

Anna Faversham (annafaversham) | 1752 comments They find it all quite amusing, thankfully. Jerseys have been dug out from the bottom of the suitcase and old plastic raincoats too. We had the driving winds today - her umbrella blew inside out. We'll try for snow tomorrow.

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments Clearly there should be a course for Making Tax Exciting for Agents. HMRC - sucking the joy out of everything, everywhere...

It's been quite a nice day here today, surprisingly mild really. Not much sun, though that should be better tomorrow apparently.
I have been struggling to write my Artist Statement for an application. Only 50 words. First person, or third? It doesn't say. Oh the indecision. So tempted to go with something from here https://www.artybollocks.com/

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments I’ve had an exciting day,, we took the grandson to the county show, I don’t think he was that impressed. He like the cows and horses and the kids rides but quite honestly I think he’d have been as happy just jumping in puddles anywhere. We got back to the car and it wouldn’t start. Husband disconnected the battery then reconnected it and it started but engine warning lights were on. We went to the garage as it was nearby and they leant us a car and took ours off to the workshop back near the county show. Husband asked me for his phone back, he thought I’d put it in my handbag but I’d put it in the central console. He was not pleased to say the least. He rushed off back to the workshop to get it and made it a minute before they closed. It wasn’t his day at all when he came home he went to fasten the little lad In his car seat to take him home, a woman very rudely pushed the car door to as she passed on the pavement and trapped his leg, He’ll be watching out for her tomorrow 😀

I suppose the traditional "I paint nice stuff people want to buy" doesn't work any more?

So far, it's been fairly painless, we got an offer on ours quite quickly, and exceeded our expectations within one round of negotiating. I've got a feeling the purchase end of it might be more tricky as I've got my heart completely set on a fixer upper, but the owner isn't really wiggling on the price and they really should because there's lots that needs to be done. It's not even connected to the mains gas, kitchen is tiny etc., but I think if we buy it, we'd never move. We'll see what happens, as we know now we need to make a decision.

Finally feeling human after this cold, which allowed me yesterday to get some long overdue admin done and publish a short that I've done to help bridge between a couple of books and I've also put one of the other titles up on ACX so I can try and get an audiobook done of it. We'll see what happens there.

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Good luck with that Ben. I’m now marooned as the builders are replacing the pavement slabs that the digger broke and OH has decided the bottom of the drive can be broken up and put as backfill behind the new wall and they’ll concrete it this afternoon so it’s the only exit. I could climb over the wall but my knees are getting a bit too old for jumping down, it could be done in an emergency as I could take the small ladder but the dog is well stuffed for his walks:0) He’ll have to racket round the back garden for a day or two.

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Will, the Pembs show was quite disappointing. Not the just the weather but the number of exhibitors was really down but friends have told us how exorbitant the charges are for trade stands.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12611 comments Rubbish night sleep, not sure why. Eye feels a lot more comfortable today though, which is a bonus. Just had a call from the neurology department, I’d hoped they’d forgotten about me, but sadly not, they have an app on Sat morning – as the 3 slots they offered are only 20 mins apart, am guessing it won’t be much longer than that. Weather very mixed here, sometimes looks like Aug, sometimes like Autumn. Slightly worrying yesterday afternoon, our lights are on timers and if no one moves for 20 mins they go off, it was the first time I noticed it feeling dark. At least I made a friends day yesterday, the discount shop we went to had loads of vegan cheese, so she has a nice stash and variety for less than she expected to pay

How frustrating Kelly! Let’s hope they don’t see snow in August Anna!! Sounds a mixed day Lynne! Hope nothing serious with the car. Oh dear, hope dog can cope with the back garden.

I can remember going when both the main runways (for those who don't know, Pembs County show is held at Havefordwest airport) were full of stalls...

Last day of the holidays. Grrrrr. A lovely day the laptop looms, to the tune of pounding hammers and stuff as the new windows get put in.

Weather is awful.

message 11721: by Lynne (Tigger's Mum) (new)

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments It’s dreadful weather here, blowing a hooley and lashing down with rain. Dog had to wear his raincoat this morning, but the fish lady gave him a huge piece of tuna fish. Just cooked it and there’s enough for about 6 lots of topping on his meals. We’ve got plaice so the house stinks of fish.
Husbands ring tone is a dog barking - so when it goes off so does the real dog. Genius man then moans that he can’t answer the phone without the dog barking. 🙄

And with perfect timing, K has an appointment with her hairdresser

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12611 comments Slightly better night sleep, but woke up with a headache. Got a rubbish job to do today and weather is miserable – good job it’s a Friday! Need to get some petrol after work.

Stay safe Patti. Our rushbearing festival had a lot less stalls than normal this year too. Why would hubby want a ring tone of a barking dog Lynne?

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Why has he got a barking dog ring tone - god knows! He perhaps understands what it’s saying. He got his car back but we had to wait for the cement to dry before we could go and collect it. It was a security issue caused by the key battery needing changing. Very expensive battery that and lesson learned. It still needed to go to the garage to get the fault cleared on the electronics. They said they last about 2 years on average but his was 9 years old and original although he has 2 keys and has changed them ove. I bet Jim will have a chuckle about that especially if he drives an old Land Rover with a straightforward metal key. I did.
Weather better today.
I adore tigers Ismat. I went to Ramthambore to see tigers years ago.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12611 comments Woke up to the sound of rain, which wasn't good as it wasn't supposed to so I washed the towels last night in the attempt to get them dry, but sun has just started to come out. Got my hospital appointment at 11, food shopping on the way back and neighbour is away this weekend so cat sitting. Will have to limit how much housework I do this weekend as I'm not allowed any meds after today until my scan on Wed. Yesterday was the first day without any steroid drops, my last week is every other day, was very strange not doing them, although I still have my allergy drops.

At least car is sorted Lynne, impressive that it lasted so much longer though

I had the battery changed in my key fob at Timpsons. The lady who did told me that on some cars - Audi particularly it seems - if the battery is out of the key fob for more than 6 seconds (!) the fob resets and you need either your spare fob, or a very expensive trip to a main dealer to reset the key. And your car will not start until you've got one or t'other. Made me relieved I didn't try changing it myself

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8051 comments Oh blimey, I have an electric car key and I put it in my pocket where it was, unfortunately, up against other objects that pressed the button on it continuously over the course of a three hour metal detecting dig. I arrived back at the car unable to get in. Luckily one of the lads from a Norfolk club was there and he does up and over garage doors with bippers in and these use the same battery. However, before he got back to his car another fellow helped me out by getting enough power out of a nine volt battery into the dud one to power the key to open the door. Since then I have always carried a spare battery with me and I only lock the doors manually, with the lock and the metal bit of the key rather than central locking it all with the button.

Patti and Dave, hope all is OK and you are safe.

Cheers

MTM

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12611 comments Well, was an interesting trip to the hospital, we had an hour and a quarter wait, he came up with a diagnosis of cognitive fatigue in 5 mins, and suggested not drinking caffeine after 2pm, good job I've stocked up on redbush. Then he said it was a shame they hadn't sent copies of my blood tests, but fortunately I'd taken them with me, he picked up on something I'd noticed, but neither the GP or rheumatologist had seemed concerned about, which was my folate levels, so he suggested I try oral B12 supplements to see if it helps, before having it in injectable form. Interestingly, the A & E doctor said that one of the things she'd be looking at for my face tingling is a Vit B deficiency, so now to decide what supplements to use. Ended up at a little precinct near the hospital to do the food shopping, ended up in some discount shops I'd never heard of and spent a load of money! Now exhausted and having a rest, although I need to put the shopping away. Clearly need to rest more and eat better!

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments You’re vegetarian aren’t you Desley. Extra vitamins are probably a good idea. Certainly the B group.
These electronic keys are quite complicated aren’t they, our failure threw up a security code so the car wouldn’t start. I’ll make sure he’s very quick when he changes the battery on the spare.
Just enjoyed a pizza, half bottle of wine and the rugby. The sun is also shining.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12611 comments Yes, I am vegetarian Lynne, but this is the first time in nearly 20 years it's shown an issues, so was a bit gutted until I found an article that said that there is a link between that and inflammation so it could be that I need more because of my arthritis. I do already take a multi-vitamin with iron, and eat fortified cereals.

Apparently there can be issues over time because your body does have reserves which can be gradually run down.
Also you've been undergoing a lot of stress recently with one thing and another and that could be putting more strain on your system
Your diet might be fine when things are ticking over nicely but you might need to look at some supplements to carry you through when things are tougher

Sometimes you find one doctor who gets it - and a whole cascade of other things is triggered. Hope it helps. I have a bottle of liquid B-12; a droppersful sublingually is my way of giving myself an extra hour of functionality when I can't take a nap - suggested by a nurse at a place we DIDN'T move to, who I will always remember with thanks.

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Good morning all, hopefully all building work will be finished this week. My piggy bank is wiped out so replanting the front garden have to wait a bit. I’ve got the little lad for the week next week then he’s only got one more week and he starts school properly. That summer holiday has passed really quickly.
Have a good day all.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12611 comments Urgh, woke up feeling completely drained, have tried twice getting back to sleep with no success. Luckily I don't have that much to do today. While in one way I'm glad that there is a reason for it, I'm kind of not glad to potentially have something else I'll have to adjust to for the rest of my life. I did a bit of reading about it last night, as I was puzzled by why it hadn't improved with quitting my voluntary work and apparently boredom can also contribute to it! Suspect that not being able to do things I enjoy because of my knee recently hasn't helped. Now not supposed to rain till this afternoon, so might be able to sit outside reading for a bit.

Thanks Jim, interesting you say it can be an issue over time, as my bloods are done every November and last years didn't flag anything up, and these were done in May, so if they were out then, they'll be even worse now! Hope I'll be able to just do it as and when at some point Alicia. Wow, didn't realise it was so close to the end of the school hols Lynne, enjoy the time!

Reviewing morning then maybe a bit of writing - then making a big batch of ratatouille to use up tomato and courgette gluts.
