There you are Kath
Your next novel, a saucy tale of forbidden love and the cake stall :-)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments I've already been told my next novel should be Cardi Woman. A superhero for our (middle) age! Is it me, or is it hot in here? Actually that was me fifteen years ago.
Been blogging, reviewing, reporting on a beta read, and just about to slip into the next one.
Glass of wine this evening. I'm getting to be a lightweight there, though. More than one and I can't sleep.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12599 comments Decided to ring Specsavers on my way home last night to check that the imaging they take is sufficient for the screening I need for one of my meds, and they are now offering a test that basically does an MRI of your eye for an extra £10, so I said yes in the hope it will show why my eye doesn’t feel right despite my inflammation being under control, and luckily they had an app for after work today. Have a slight dilemma, changed boots on Wed for something that has zips, my knee seems better, although my foot is more painful, not sure what I prefer! Blue skies but humidity affecting my asthma again. Seen pics of the dam in Whalley Bridge, looks very scary and now the RAF has been drafted in.

I feel your pain Kath, alcohol affects my sleep, so when the A & E doc asked if I drank much, the answer was not as much as I'd like, as it depends how bad my sleep or pain has been that week!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12599 comments Well, an interesting eye test, I got the same person who I saw the other week, so I think I got a mix of an eye test and the minor conditions service! I have better than 20/20 vision in both eyes, although ironically my 'good' eye is slightly worse than my 'bad' eye! Not enough to warrant new glasses, but I've bought some anyway as it was cheaper to do that than get my lenses tinted! Just went for a £25 pair, in case the light sensitivity improves, he was unsure about that as nothing in my eye looks bad enough to be causing it, I'm still hoping it's a side effect of the drops. He said that my eyelids are less bumpy but he could see they were still swollen so to use the allergy drops again and do regular cold compresses. He summed it up by saying it's good news, but I appreciate you are frustrated with no answers. Didn't have an OCT test, apparently the pic they take will show up changes, and the dilation drops I had on Wed would have been enough to show so he feels that I don't need screening yet, but to put my mind at rest, said to have yearly tests rather than the 2 yearly ones I've been on.

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Afternoon. Just back from a walk along the beach on the seaward side of Spurn point. We followed this with a brew and a hot pasty at the visitor centre. Excellent. Shattered now!

Where's the visitor centre, I don't remember it but it's some years since we were there

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12599 comments Well, not sure if it is the allergy drops and compresses or reduction in steroid drops, but barely had any tingling in my face today, despite sitting outside for a few hours this afternoon reading my book, which was lovely. Couldn't go anywhere or even do some of the housework as we were waiting for the Amazon delivery, which didn't arrive till 5.30! So just popped to Lidl. Unfortunately there is a weather warning tomorrow.

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Glad you’re getting sorted Desley, I’m just off to Specsavers too. My second pair is ready and as they are open on Sundays there’s less traffic I’m nipping into town to get them. With the builders here I’m happier not leaving the dog at all. He’d be out of the door and in the road like a flash if the men open the door. Been there. Done that several times. It’s pouring with rain so I might cadge a lift instead of getting my car wet😁.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12599 comments Another disturbed night sleep, there was a moth in the bedroom so got woken up a couple of times by Lucy trampling over me trying to catch it! We actually have blue skies, which I wasn't expecting with a weather warning, am hoping I can get some of the washing pegged out. Got a bit more housework than I wanted, as I couldn't do some while waiting for the delivery, and then going to update book challenge.

Good luck getting a lift Lynne.

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Howdy do?

The visitor centre is new, Jim. Part way along the point but not too far for those who don't walk well. Opened last year, I think.

Cafe profits go back into wildlife projects.

And good morning from Daggy Bottom on a scorcher of a summer's day. Wonder if it can keep it up?

message 11613: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21812 comments There certainly wasn't anything when we were there but it could be fifteen years ago. The east coast always freaks me out. The tide goes in and out but barely moves!
Today it has been clammy and humid and at the moment there's a thunder storm, we've got light rain

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12599 comments Well, had a good day, neighbour suggested going to the local market town before the rain arrived, I had £10 and managed to get 2 dresses, 2 books (the only two in the Roy Grace series I didn't have), a vegan pie for tonight's tea and a stir fry for tomorrows tea and had 20p left! Now figuring as I've broke my rule of not buying books this month, I might as well buy one's from Val McDermid in the daily deal. Washing was practically dry, so no ironing required. knee is much better, although eye has been a bit twingy, but I still managed to sit outside for 15 mins reading. Still waiting for the rain and thunder.

Ben Bruce | 40 comments Another morning waking up feeling like my heads in a swamp. This hayfever/allergy season doesn't seem to want to end. Pretty fed up of it all now. Used to getting hit for just a single week each year, not this prolonged bombardment.

Other than that, I can't grumble I suppose!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12599 comments Well, woke up at 6 to the sound of rain so decided to close my eyes again till the alarm went off. Eye is better today, but knee sore again. Also found a random bruise on one of my fingers, it isn’t sore though. Rain stopped, although more is forecast. Going to try using my spiraliser tonight.

Sorry your hayfever is still bothering you Ben, I’m also not used to symptoms for so long seeing as I’m on strong antihistamines, but I’ve had to increase my inhaler again, as well as the eye drops, don’t think I’ve known a year like it.

message 11619: by Will (new)

Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments I'm on anti histamines now too. had an allergic reaction to an insect bite. Annoying as I should be immune to them after all these years

Kelly Clayton | 1040 comments Glad you're getting some results, Desley.

Am off on 2 weeks holiday from the day-job. Have family coming over from England from Wed to Sun, then editing, and reading to my heart's content. Quite a few books lined up.

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments We had absolutely Biblical type rain yesterday afternoon with all the associated thunder and lightning. Sadly I was making my way along the beach at the time so was soaked through to my undies. Quite nice today though, and I've sold two big paintings from my beach hut :)

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Our wall has a coat of scratch before the render so it’s not quite so brutal looking. It was a bit Alcatraz. Someone decided to meddle with the delivered blocks on Saturday night. Either twerps messing about or someone was intending to steal them but when they realised the weight they pout them down on the ground. The only thing I thought worrying was that they must have had a knife of some sort with them cut the industrial banding.

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments First here? Me? With my reputation!
We've been out strimming the chicken's little 'field' and it's now looking considerably less ratty. Moth trap out last night but not many takers. Must be the weather.

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Hello

Starting to get a bit of work here and there now thank goodness. Haven't got all my pay stuff sorted out yet so I'll need to do that this afternoon!

My cupboard and my kindle are full of books so would it be excessive to buy 10 more books? I don't know where I'd put them if I did but I really want them.

Hope everyone is well. I'm just sleepy, as usual.

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Been to the dentist and now my teeth are lovely and clean. I don’t like the gritty compound though. Like eating sand sandwiches. It gives me the willies to crunch it but there so much cement dust flying about I might be blaming the wrong reason. I think rain is stopping play outside though. The price of building materials is really high but I don’t think there’s any more stuff on order thank goodness. It will be bread and water here for the rest of the week.

message 11626: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21812 comments It was briefly fine but when nipped into town to get a hair cut, got soaked to the skin walking a hundred yards
Absolutely chucking it down

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12599 comments Had to get up early today cos Lucy is going for acupuncture, but had a rubbish night sleep. Overcast with the promise of rain. Have managed to forget my dry eye drops though, not 100% sure what I did with them last night. Got my follow up app through, rang to check if they are doing to put dilating drops in, there was nothing on the notes, but the lovely lady at the booking service tried ringing the eye ward for me, and as they had shut for the day, said she’d e-mail the secretary and ring me back, was very impressed! Am going to ask if this allergy thing could have triggered off iritis, if so, might just use these drops every summer as a precaution, especially seeing as both eyes are still slightly swollen. I’ve ordered an old fashioned style gel eye mask to use as a compress, was surprised at how many types you can get on Amazon these days.

Hope your reaction wasn’t too severe Will. Sounds a lovely break Kelly, I have contemplated booking a random day off work and spending it reading. As I bought 12 on Sun Jud, my only advice would be that if they are a good deal and you might end up paying more or regretting it, then do it. I still regret not buying some last year when they were on offer. Glad you are getting a bit more work.

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Morning! Can't believe I'm first again at nearly 10.30.

Alternately grey and sunny here in Daggy Bottom.

I've been invited (along with others) to lunch at the village church as a thank you for the things we non church members do. In my case, the floral arches and sundry other wedding flowers. Lovely idea. The church members do the catering and they did this two years ago. It was nice to be so appreciated.

message 11629: by Will (new)

Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments You should be appreciated for those floral displays, Kath. They always look so lovely.

It's a bit cold and grey here today, so for one I'm happy to be at the desk doing some work.

Jud, Desley is right. Always buy the books.

Ben Bruce | 40 comments Enjoying having some work on my plate after a couple of quiet weeks (the joys of freelancing!) although I’m sure the novelty will wear off. House hunting later this afternoon, agreed a sale for ours so I suppose we’d best. It’s either that, or the four of us packed in my Mondeo. It’s fairly roomy, but not that roomy.

Hope the househunting and freelancing go well :-)

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12599 comments Slightly better sleep, just woke up at 4 and struggled to get back to sleep, foot was burning a bit, and now heel is sore after standing for Lucy’s acupuncture app. Had some heavy rain this morning, but now a bit better. As it’s dull today, I’ve not been wearing my sunglasses less today, computer work is a bit tricky, but hopefully new glasses will help.

That’s lovely Kath, it’s nice to be appreciated. Why are they still in your basket Jud??

message 11635: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21812 comments Interesting evening the other evening. Was phoned to say some 'gentlemen' who were sleeping rough on Roa Island were stealing a sheep from the churchyard.
A sheep had gone, we had a description of the cars, we found the cars and phoned the police.
Who discovered that they were part of the Scotland rally and that day's challenge had been go get a selfie with a sheep
The sheep has been found as well :-)
Whether she's traumatised by being photographed with Belgians it's bad to tell with sheep.
But I felt it was worth a blog post :-)

message 11636: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Morning.

I read your blog about that Jim, made me laugh. Although, I don't see why you need to steal the sheep to get a selfie with it, poor thing.

The Scotland Rally does sound like fun though, so long as no sheep (or other creatures) get hurt!

message 11637: by Will (new)

Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments Why were Belgians on a rally around Scotland molesting sheep in south Cumbria? That's what I want to know. Surely Scotland has some accommodating sheep of its own?

message 11638: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Morning. I've just written and deleted a cheeky joke about sheep in Scotland in deference to our Scottish readers (and moderator). I do still have some sense of decency! Just.

Shopping this morning - all stowed - and flower arranging this afternoon. Can't keep up with meself sometimes!

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Decency? What's that?

Jay-me (Janet) | 3784 comments Good Afternoon

So this has been an interesting week.
I arrived at work on Tuesday, after dropping Mum at daycare, to find that the office had been broken into. Lots of mess but as we don't have cash on the premises they only got £6 out of the petty cash and some postage stamps. The only other thing that we think is missing is the little screen thing that belongs with the smart meter. My theory is that the thief thought it was a satnav.

Now Satnavs
I've been saying for a while that I need a new satnav - mine has to be plugged in all the time to work, switches itself off randomly then won't restart and so on. My brother suggested trying to set up my phone to use - so I said I would look into it, but haven't done anything yet.
There are two places where the car radio loses the signal from the local radio station - one a stretch of about 100 yards around the roundabout by Asda, and the other at the junction just above Mum's. This morning as I was at the junction waiting for a couple of cars to pass there was a satnav type instruction suddenly coming from my radio telling me to turn right. I have no idea where that came from and after I turned the radio came back on as normal.

message 11641: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21812 comments Gingerlily - The Full Wild wrote: "Decency? What's that?"

It derives from a mispronunciation of
descent (the steady progress downwards)

Si (meaning an affirmative meaning yes in many languages)

Thus decency means that you agree to the general decline in things?

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12599 comments Well, not sure about my new glasses, can still see the filmy stuff occasionally, so might ask for the darker lenses, although concerned they will be too dark. Have had a bit of tingling, but a cold compress resolved it, so haven’t had to resort to sunglasses again. Need to go to the chemist after work as dry eye drops nearly empty. Also need to ring the doc, got my copy of the rheumatology app and my urine sample indicates an infection, so need to see what they want to do about that. Sun and cloud today, although then supposed to be horrible all weekend.

Sounds very interesting Jim! Sorry to hear that Janet, glad they didn't get much. How very strange of your car!

Went for a trike ride this morning because it wasn't TOO hot yet, and got a bit lost.

Asked some nice young women which way to go, and they pulled out their phone. So I pulled out MY phone, and they set it up so the Maps lady talked me home (apparently my location was still set to New Jersey, on the other side of the continent, and it didn't have coordinates for walking to the new place from there).

I wasn't LOST lost, just went a bit further than I had planned because a street curved the wrong way, but I then told them to VOTE at the next election, and we were all in agreement of who NOT to vote FOR, so had a nice little chat - and I rode home. To a nice nap.

Told them I had been programming computers since before there were mice on them, and well before they were alive.

Yup. Turning into THAT old lady.

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4836 comments Desley (Cat fosterer) wrote: "...sample indicates an infection..."

Make sure it wasn't the sample collection process - I've had that happen. No infection - I was so severely dehydrated the sample was contaminated. By waiting until a repeat test, and drinking a lot of water, I saved myself from taking a powerful antibiotic I didn't need. Those things always have side effects.

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Morning. My cousins have cancelled their plans to visit us for the weekend because they don't fancy driving over Saddleworth Moor in a gale, and I don't blame them. You expect to have to cancel travel in the dead of winter but not in flipping August!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12599 comments Woke up to the sound of heavy rain, although currently dry. Rang docs last night, however I forgot it was Thursday and we don’t have a doctor on a Thu pm, so someone is going to ring back today. Probably a good thing, as when I went to ask the chemist for some more drops, they pointed out the allergy ones are prescription only, so going to see if the doc can prescribe them or if I need the optician to. Hopefully they will ring before I ring specsavers. Food shopping after work, really need to start cooking rather than putting food in the oven. Very quiet in the office today.

Sadly Alicia, I don’t think that is the case, as the sample showed blood in it. Good on you for turning into that old lady!! No, I wouldn’t fancy driving over Saddleworth Moor with the forecast either Kath!

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments Morning. WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO THE WEATHER? It's deffo not a beach hut day for me, and the Fringe by the Sea is fast becoming a bit of a washout - the rain drumming on the roof of the Spiegeltents tends to drown things out :(
I'm even feeling a little sorry for the Ladies Scottish Open players just along the road!
