Anna Faversham (annafaversham) | 1752 comments The wind before a storm has arrived but no rain yet...

Please... rain, quite a bit.

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments The departmental prefect in the Nord Pas de Calais has decreed that farmers can’t harvest wheat near habitations due to the heat and extreme dry weather and severe risk of fire.
It’s drizzled here tonight but we never reached those really high temperatures I think it was 23° max but we had a 30 knots wind gusting so it felt quite pleasant. Apart from the bloody bits of grass. I got half a bin load up from behind my door.

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments What's it for Sahar?

Morning all. Our beaches looked like the 1950s (or the Costa del Sol) yesterday. The cars were queuing to get into town in the morning, never seen it so busy.

message 11555: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21812 comments It's hot and it's not 7am
In theory it's under 20 degrees

Anna Faversham (annafaversham) | 1752 comments It rained a little, with thunderclaps and lightning occasionally. Water butts only a quarter filled but that will allow me to save on the water bills a little.

More rain please.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12599 comments Got so warm yesterday afternoon and evening, it was quite uncomfortable, I actually didn’t sleep with the quilt over me last night, and Lucy chose to sleep under the bed! Forgot one of the three things I went to Lidl for, but was too sticky by the time I realised to divert to Sainsbury’s. Chemist wanted to do a medication review, so asked about the eye drops and I can carry on with the allergy ones, she was surprised that just changing anti-histamines would have that effect, but just two days of nothing/less strong is enough to affect my asthma, in fact sometimes I can tell by bedtime I forgot. We had a brief thunderstorm and rain, but it barely woke me up. Lot cooler today, am sat with a cardigan on, although Chanel seemed more bothered today than yesterday. Going for petrol after work, and picking up a parcel for my neighbour from one of the retail parks, trying to be good this month and stop buying stuff just cos it’s on offer, there is a lot of stuff in my house already. Tempted with a subway though!

Good luck getting rid of the grass Lynne, suspect you’ll be finding it for months! I’m not surprised France have banned grass cutting, can’t imagine

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments Husband informs me that our new office printer has emailed him to say that it is running low on black ink and has put some into his shopping basket.
Luckily it doesn't have our card details

my advice is that it stays that was as well! :-)

The internet of things is not going to end well and I cannot see why anybody would want to join it

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments At least it picked the cheapest option :/

Cooler here this morning, thank goodness, although it's raining a bit. It's the big lifeboat fundraiser fete today so I hope it dries up for them

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12599 comments Well, it didn't seem that cool last night, thermostat in the girls room was still saying 27, but I didn't sleep under the quilt. Raining today, and according to the phone, will be like that all day! As the cleaner came yesterday, not even much housework to do, not sure what to do instead.

That is a bit scary R!

Anna Faversham (annafaversham) | 1752 comments It's rained, hooray. And it's filled the water butts at last. Saves me watering the garden and saves on the horrendous water bill which rose beyond belief last time.

I hope we don't reach the stage where all of us are thinking like this every day...

Ours is next weekend :-)
Which is lucky because we've got constant drizzle at the moment which would put visitors off

message 11565: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Wet this morning, but it's only playing at it. Cooler too, but now I've got used to the sunlight, it's depressingly dark. In winter it comes on unnoticed but to go from sunny skies to rain clouds is a bit sudden. We had sheet lightning on the horizon (so over the North Sea) at 2:45 a.m. No thunder to be heard so it was obviously some distance away.

message 11566: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21812 comments Yes this morning seemed dark

message 11567: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4836 comments Woke to another beautiful bright sunny California day. They never seem to run out.

This is what I have been trying to get back to my whole life! THIS is normal - for me.

Like many things, our preferences for weather are built in childhood; it wasn't until I left Mexico City (similar weather) to finish college in Seattle (now there's a change!) that I realized how much my state of happiness depends on what's outside the windows, and mine is sun and mild climate. Cold, snow, and humidity ennervate me - I keep waiting for them to end!

Where did you grow up - and how does that influence what feels 'right' now?

message 11568: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21812 comments Well if Alicia has her normal, I've got mine back, it's raining here :-)

None of your drizzle, it's not something you measure in millimetres, this is proper rain, measured in inches :-)
To be fair, and because it's summer, the rain is getting into the spirit of things and is falling vertically, rather than coming in horizontally

message 11569: by Jay-me (Janet) (new)

Jay-me (Janet) | 3784 comments I can confirm that there is heavy rain in Jimland
Last time I was here in my brother’s caravan it rained

At least I have my kindle so I can read something and look out at the rain ☔️

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12599 comments Morning, appears to be raining here again too. Lot cooler at least. Sunday chores, then not sure what else to do. Light sensitivity was different last night, if it does that again today, will ring someone and see if I need to go today or if it can wait till my app on Wed.

Am afraid I live 3 miles from where I was born Alicia, so I don't know much different. Glad you are happy where you are though. Glad you have plenty to read Janet!

message 11571: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Good moaning! It's merely dull and warm here - a bit like my heart!
Done my quota of reviewing for the day and I've got a roast dinner to sort out for tonight. In between, I shall read. That surprised you, didn't it?

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Sunny here, and the temperature at my desk is 22c. Looks quite breezy out there.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12599 comments Well, quite a wasted afternoon, decided to ask neighbour to take me to A & E, just in case they wanted to put drops in that meant I couldn't drive, she took me to a different hospital than I would have used, checked when we got there that they had an eye doctor, waited nearly an hour for triage, he sent me to the Urgent Care Centre round the corner, she didn't look in my eyes, but feels sure that as it is transient and not affecting my sight, that I am OK to wait till my app on Wed! She did feel my face to check out the tingling, which is now happening on both sides, and can't come up with an idea, other than maybe a side effect of medication - but then why does it only affect me when I'm looking at bright lights, and it goes quickly afterward? I suggested maybe a side effect of the steroid drops, but she thought unlikely. It is however better than yesterday, so might wait till Wed, or I might just ring them tomorrow to see if they can bring it forward. Rain was torrential on the way home and lots of large puddles, was glad I wasn't the one driving!

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4836 comments So sorry that was a bust, Desley. How frustrating.

message 11575: by Kelly (new)

Kelly Clayton | 1040 comments Alicia, I lived in Ayrshire in Scotland until I was 20, been in the Channel Island of Jersey ever since (over 30 years).

Jersey is tucked into the Bay of St Malo, and is much closer to France than England. Jersey can get pretty hot in summer and the Autumn weather can be nice, and is similar to UK weather on the whole, but the winters never get the way did in Scotland.

We only get snow that's worth talking about once every decade! Bah! I miss the cold sometimes. The real, bitter cold that bites into your bones and freezes your breath in an even-colder house (no central heating in those days). But I am accustomed to the milder weather now, so I wouldn't last long!

message 11576: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4836 comments I think, after almost a year in California, that I can't go back to the cold. Going outside any time I want to (except during the middle of the day on the very hot ones) is huge. Except for the middle of summer, I'll be able to ride my trike whenever I want to, and go for a spin on the greenway that runs through Davis.

It's more my speed.

I grew up in Mexico City; there a few places nearby got a sprinkling (an inch?) of snow about every ten years. It's a big deal. Slippery on roads more used to bald tires.

message 11577: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Morning! I had to put on a gilet this morning it was bleu not jaune. I don't think it was truly cold, just damp and not actually hot. So in three days I've got acclimatised to the hot weather.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12599 comments Well, there was some localised flooding yesterday, we weren’t affected though. Woke up at 4.30 to the sound of rain, but it had stopped by the time I got up, and it is blue sky now, despite the forecast for rain. Feels quite stuffy. Had a headache all morning. Spoke to a lovely eye nurse who thinks I’m OK to wait till my app on Wed, do hope she’s right!

Can’t believe you miss the cold Kelly!

Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments Just back from a few days in London with K's rellies.

Mostly it seemed to rain, except for the day we drove home and it was appallingly hot on the motorway...

Now it's raining again.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12599 comments Well, decided to stop my nasal spray in case that was causing issues, and it helped yesterday but not as much today, and I’m a lot snottier. Had a bit of rain, but not as bad as forecast, although just had an unexpected thunderstorm and now bouncing down! Feel sorry for my friend, who’s elderly foster dog is struggling, she’s understandably finding it hard to ring the vet.

message 11581: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments How do? Faffed around a bit this morning then cut a small bunch of 'all around the garden' to take to a friend who's recently come out if hospital. Then went to sister's with some of the tomato glut. Sunny here.

message 11582: by Kelly (new)

Kelly Clayton | 1040 comments It's def not sunny here! Blowing a hoolie and raining. That's what I get for saying I missed the cold. I take it back - yes I do!

message 11583: by Darren (new)

Darren Humphries (darrenhf) | 6903 comments Yesterday's rains seem to have subsided, thank goodness. It was like someone was turning a tap on and off, it came so abruptly.

Another day's slog to get through. Hope yours is a better day.

message 11584: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4836 comments Another beautiful sunny day.

It's almost embarrassing.

The rain comes in the winter.

The flowers have been gorgeous and of incredible varieties. The Bird of Paradise bush has finally stopped brimming with the flowers.

Now, if I only had a brain. Not being able to write is getting tiresome.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12599 comments Well, am off work today cos am seeing rheumatologist this morning and opthamologist this afternoon, typically I didn't get a lie in. Then neighbour wants to do food shopping. At least it isn't raining, was very heavy last night.

Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments I heard on the radio this morning that the Uk had 18000 lightning strikes yesterday. I didn't see one. To whom should I complain?

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Well the sun is out and the builders are busy. Yesterday was a washout for building a wall. Me and the dog are doing very little. I’ll make tea and sandwiches but that’s all I can do to help. Dogs and wet cement don’t mix either so we are quite enjoying not helping.

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments How do? Glad you're enjoying the job (so far) Jud. Had a busy morning and I'm just off to bake for tomorrow's cake club. So - busy afternoon too! I'd rather wear out than rust out.

message 11595: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Morning. Just back from the village cake club. Off after lunch to flower arranging. The mad social whirl of the retired! I was asked by a small delegation of the village hall committee if I'd be happy to join in with their fundraiser for Macmillan. We often do this as we have a cake-besotted captive audience for a cake stall. So that'll go ahead in October.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12599 comments What a day yesterday, didn’t have to wait too long for the rheumatologist, who asked loads of questions, prodded and poked me and decided best plan was to take blood, send me for x-rays and ultrasounds, and go back in 2-3 months to discuss what they have shown and what plan of action is. She did mention changing my medication, but I said that they have tried that before and it didn’t go well. Ended up having about 6 x-rays and was shuffled into random positions. Was impressed though that I got all that done in 2 hours. Eye app was a different matter though, got there early as neighbour had to drop me off because I was having dilating drops, misheard the first nurse and went to the wrong suite, got to the right one to find he was running an hour late! Annoying as I couldn’t read to finish my book, luckily they have a TV in the suite. Quickly discovered why, he is either newly qualified or just not confident, every patient he went and consulted with one of the other 2! I was pleased when he did that at mine though, he brought her in to check my floater and she was lovely. Eye looks quiet, and pressure is fine, although she wants me to do an extra week of drops, I’d rather that than a flare up, check up in 6 weeks which is better than last time. My floater is actually a PVD, although safe. They also can’t explain the weird tingling, other than it’s my skin so not my eyes! Am wondering if it’s a random side effects of the drops, so going to wait till I’m off them and if no better, ask the doc who else I can be referred to. Also thinking that part of it is my eye being dry from all the steroid drops, so going to keep up the dry eye drops. So good on one hand, but frustrated that I still have things that can’t be explained and that I’ve developed another thing that is uncommon in people of my age! And joint wise, no answers till the follow up, so might still show something, really do hope my knee isn’t still sore by then. We had periods of heavy rain yesterday, including while I was going back to my car. Didn’t get much from food shopping, so will need to go somewhere else tomorrow or Sat. Blue skies at the moment, but rain forecast.

I often wonder just how much money is raised through cake stalls. Given the sheer number of official and quasi official bodies who want us to stop eating things we enjoy, it's probably a scandal :-)

What a day! I'm glad they were thorough, but you must feel like a pincushion after a hard day of sewing!

Hope it results in you feeling better. The eye thing is worrying.

Isn't the cake to go with the tea? I think I put on five pounds reading this.
