I've never seen Jaws either. Now why would I want to scare myself?
We’ve just massacred our hydrangeas. They were really lovely but the builder is coming on Tuesday to take down the garden wall to the street and rebuild it. It’s been sloping for 30 plus years but OH decided it’s time to sort it. It’s holding the front garden behind it, it’s not ground level so it’s diggers and taking away loads of earth and slate etc. I’m not involved. I’ll be tea making but not digging. We filled 2 one tonne bags and the garden bin with the flowers - I’ve saved some for drying and given a few huge bunches away but it’s quite upsetting. Hopefully we can save the roots if not I’ll have to buy some but those were enormous and really old.
So sorry about your hydrangeas. I had to leave mine behind, but have heard the people who bought the house are preserving the gardens!
Thanks Alicia, I’ve still got a couple of lace caps taller than me so they are doing well. If we can get them out and keep the roots damp I think they’ll be saved. It might do them good as there’s woody bits that you couldn’t get at as they were so big. Husband is getting hearing aids tomorrow. I can’t see that going down well as he hates earphones on gadgets but needs must. I shall have to stop muttering under my breathe at him. He’ll hear what I’m saying. I really a need brain to mouth filter. I can foresee tears before bedtime.

My biggest fear is losing the ability to keep my filters in place as I age or get mentally feeble - I've pretended to be nice by dint of savagely controlling what I say since childhood (don't we all do this?). I hope the husband, the kids, and the staff at the nursing home don't get an earful.
Had my first visit to Fargo Village in Coventry yesterday. If you're near that neck of the woods and haven't been, I suggest you do, it's brilliant. Great book store, record fair and a proper vinyl shop as well (couple of new additions to that collection). Couple of nice bars and then had dinner in the Caribbean restaurant, Esmie's, which was absolutely stunning. Food was off the hook. Not quite sure what's took me so long to go there, but I'll definitely be back.Now awaiting the heat they're promising this week and the unenviable conditions that's going to bring for work. Shame I can't have my feet up all week!

Had another bad night sleep, but not the kind where you are awake for hours, just tossing and turning for hours. Contemplated coming to work later to get a bit more sleep, but then needed the loo! Allergy drops stopped last night, but eye is a bit stingy, so going to ring Specsavers back, see if I can use them for a couple more days. Cough hasn’t fully gone either, but the sore throat has, and knee isn’t as sore. Was struggling getting one of my apps working on my new phone, googled it and that wasn’t much help, switched internet off and on, and it fixed it, and 2 that I was struggling to remember passwords for then auto logged in! Just need to sync it to the car now. Sun is trying to come out, but very windy here. Sorry about losing the plants Lynne, hope some survive. Good luck adjusting to hubby’s hearing aid! We’ve hit 28 degrees here today, with 40mph gusts. Warm gusts! Rather a strange combination but good for drying washing. The house is now rather warm though and I think we’re in for a sticky night
We're not that warm, last night wasn't too bad, but by the look of the forecast we're due a downpour early tomorrow morning!
Muggy and warm here, with warm wind, too. Our hottest forecast day is the one I’m going to spend driving to Sussex and back in the car. But on the up side, after tomorrow, no more seven am starts until September!Sorry, haven’t caught up, Desley I hope you are soon feeling better and everyone else, hope all is well.

The. Big digger has arrived. Bye bye old sloping wall then. I ‘ll go and put the kettle on to make builders tea. Billy is going to be a right PIA if he reacts to the noise and the builders. I hope OH get home soon. He’s gone out for a walk with BIlly before they get here but they’ve arrived early. Not hot here. It’s totally grey again.

All windows opened at 6 a.m. this morning. Closed and curtains pulled before going out. So, Darren, I'm doing my best and following the rules. 28 c and rising.
Slightly better night sleep, downside is as I didn’t move as much I woke up stiff! Getting a bit concerned that my eye still doesn’t feel 100%, it’s been 7 weeks now. Was 17 when I got in the car at 7.40 though, supposed to hit 29, but with 81% humidity, however I am sat with a cardigan and scarf on! Thought I’d set the phone up in the car last night until I got in it this morning and realised it doesn’t just need linking, you also have to download the address book, but it didn’t want to do that this morning. Hope you had a decent night R. Hope it is the start of a heatwave Darren! Good luck with the disruption Lynne and Alicia.
It’s turned really warm now, the digger started well then had a hydraulic pipe burst, the wall is down and loaded but it’s all on stop till the mechanic fixes it. Billy has been a star, it’s amazing how a car door slamming will have him on his back legs barking at the window. A chuffing great digger taking the wall, away and he’s curled up on my chair fast asleep. Daughter called over and grandson was hungry so I cooked him some lunch and they’ve gone now. I fed the buiders so they didn’t slink off to Greggs for hours: Kids, dogs and men! I can see the merits of being a nun some days. 😀

Anita and I were privileged last night to have a world premiere! Darren read us a short story from his soon to be published book, and its a cracker! (and so is he)
From the tales you hear about convent schools, I don't think that nuns are very keen on children.

I considered being a nun (we had lovely Benedictine nuns at our school in Mexico City), but ran up against the limitations almost immediately: I'm not capable of promising obedience.
I didn't think poverty and chastity had a lot to recommend them either. 😵

Morning!We've been on holiday, it was amazing! The kids loved their beach holiday in NE Scotland, they went paddling for the first time and got fully soaked :o) The weather was stunning which helped. We're going to go back next year!

Enjoy the last few days of freedom, Jud!Most spectacular but short thunderstorn at around 3:00 a.m. Rain hammering down. One of the 'light up the sky' type flashes was followed almost instantaneously by an explosive clap of thunder, so it must have been right overhead then. Over the next few minutes it rolled away and the rain stopped.
We had that thunderstorm too Kath, around the same time! Hasn't cleared the air much though, still very hot
Rain stopped play here. There’s builders and diggers eating bacon rolls in the shelter of the garage. They aren’t coming in! I’ve just mopped the floor. Last Friday we had one single lightning flash and it struck a chimney in Pembroke. It went down through their roof.
I’ve got a man here saying there’s no sign of rain forecast on his weather app. 🙄
Hope you enjoyed Scotland Jud, my family originally comes from Peterhead, so I know that little corner of the world. Some absolutely lovely spots. The storm last night was impressive, however ineffective! If anything, it's muggier here than yesterday. Does anyone use those apps that show you where the lightning is said to strike. I was watching the storm whilst using one last night. Going to say they're not accurate as it suggested one landed about ten feet from us, but in reality, there didn't seem to be any that hit in the immediate vicinity, although the next town over got a lot of strikes apparently.
Well, got woken up at 2.30 by a thunderstorm, wasn’t sure if it was heavy wind or thunder at first, till I saw lightning. Lucy was settled on my bed, I did get up to check on the girls, could only find Chanel though, although in the past they haven’t been bothered by thunder. Took a good hour to get back to sleep. Was still 20 in the car at 7.40, and the humidity is affecting my asthma today. Got to go to the chemist and do the food shopping after work. It is bizarre what noises upset animals Lynne, Lucy will jump if I sneeze but thunderstorms don’t bother her! I frequently think that too GL! Wouldn’t want to be a nun though, unless I could sit and read rather than sit in silence. But not sure I could buy books due to the poverty bit. Glad you enjoyed your holiday Jud, hope it is as nice next year! Better get lots of reading done this year.

We used to live in Aberdeen and were staying in Hopeman for the Gala last week. It was amazing, it's so pretty there.
My weather app says it will be 42° on Saturday and Sunday here (108° F), and I don't think I've ever been in a place that hot.
Sipping the last bit of ouzo in my glass as the village slowly goes to sleep. This Greek holiday is certainly the tonic my soul required.

Morning - just about. Yes, muggy here too and the thermometer's got altitude sickness. However, I look on the bright side. Most of the year I'm perishing!
Unsurprisingly, didn’t sleep all that well, even though I did sleep with the quilt over me all night! Didn’t get to the chemist last night as neighbour was in a rush for the shopping, so doing that on the way to Lidl tonight, hoping they will still have some of the vegi pizza I want, need to tidy for the cleaner and drop the key off. Today is supposed to be our last nice day, so put a washload on last night and pegged it out before going to work this morning. Read an interesting article about the connection between light and sleep which said that people with eye damage find their sleep pattern affected, so wonder if that is part of why my sleep has been so bad recently? Good eye still keeps being a bit twingy so going to ask the docs to refer me to ENT, think it’s my sinuses so going to try increasing my nasal spray. I don’t normally suffer this much in the summer, ended up using my blue inhaler twice yesterday, so increased my brown one this morning. Interestingly, my dry eye drops are now more frequent than my steroid drops! Wow, that’s crazy Alicia! So jealous Patti.
It’s without a doubt been the worst summer I can remember for my allergies Desley, and speaking to others they all seem to say the same, so very sorry to hear how you’re suffering with it. Roll on the autumn! Never thought I’d say that.
I know people who don't normally suffer who are doing this summer, and the optician said they'd had a lot of people this year suffering. No idea why though
I must say that I envy Patti's holiday as I rush through a huge pile of work before taking K to London tomorrow to be at her youngest grandchild's 3rd birthday party.
Sounds idyllic that honeymoon. Back to reality for me though. The footings are in and no one has fallen in our wet cement from the street. We had to shut all the window though as the council gardening contractors have been mowing all the embankment in front of us and the wind is strong. It’s blown grass and dust in and covered the windowsills inside. Bathroom needs a proper going over everywhere covered in fine bits of grass. I really needed that.
