I persisted and I found the character Lisbeth fascinating.

It's slow to get going, but it's worth persisting with, as are the other books in the series.

The Swedish 'Extended' mini series is also worth watching. Noomi Rapace is excellent as Lisbeth, and the late Mikael Nyqvist is very good as Blomqvist. (I wouldn't bother with the Hollywood remake)

message 11403: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments I enjoyed the three books. Some gratuitous nastiness but the stories, the characters and Lisbeth grew on me.

For the first time, on a new medication, I am developing light sensitivity, and it's not fun! My sympathies - hope the new med helps. And my eyes have been red for ten months - since I came to California. Interesting to be allergic to the land of my birth.

Have a good day everyone.

Will Once (willonce) | 3772 comments Morning all. Physio appointment this morning, followed by yet another bleeping awayday.

That's something that I don't enjoy going back to corporate culture. The endless bleeping awaydays. I expect to lose the will to live around the fourth or fifth powerpoint presentation.

message 11408: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Morning!

I took annual leave on our awayday, there was a thing on at Kitty's nursery so it was a genuine reason.

Going on holiday tomorrow!!!! Not packed but boarding passes are printed. I'm so excited :o) just trying to decide whether to post my old passport here today or post it from Scotland tomorrow. It's a holiday weekend here so it might be quicker going from Scotland!

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments I’m home from the opticians and the house is intact. We left the dog alone for the first time ever since his little pal died.
For my new glasses I still can’t work out how they calculate those two for 1 offers that end up double the price plus lot more. I did ask (twice) but it didn’t help that I couldn’t read the screen without my specs on the first time - anyway it’s done. OH had a hearing test as well. I don’t think he’s hard of hearing but just doesn’t listen. There’s is a difference. It could be lot of money difference as well. Specsavers can’t dispense NHS hearing aids in Wales. They can in England.

G J (Gaff to my friends) Reilly | 1836 comments Yay! Congratulations, Jud!!

Morning all (barely). Sorry to have been newsless for a while, but I've been up o my armpits writing software training manuals for next year's intake of little darlings, and some for staff / older students too. So much for winding down before the end of the school year!!

You may have seen my post about entering SPFBO5 (Self-Published Fantasy Blog-Off 5). If you want to see who else is competing this year (300 in total), there's a list available via Goodreads - just search for SPFBO5 under Browse>Lists to take a look. Some scary good books and fantastic authors there. Or if you like artwork, check out some of the gorgeous covers!!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12599 comments Slept slightly better today, now reducing my drops to 5 times a day, feels as though we are finally getting somewhere, even though there is another month to go! Going to chemist and co-op after work. We briefly had blue skies, but now drizzling. Randomly, it keeps improving late afternoon.

You have my sympathies for developing light sensitivity Alicia, hope it wears off. I wonder if it is something in the complex you are allergic to, rather than California? Hope the physio went well Will. Glad you got the job Jud, you better stop buying books now you won’t have as much reading time. Glad big dog didn’t wreck your house Lynne.

message 11415: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Well done, Jud. Hope you enjoy it.
Just back from Kirkham Abbey in North Yorks. Not the abbey itself but a very nice pub across the road. Been several times and it was lovely to sit out in the sunshine for lunch.
Making a coffee cake now for refreshments for the village show.

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments Well it's absolutely scorchio here today but the town is very quiet - mainly because the feckin BBC were warning of floods, pestilence and lightning and dangerous travelling from mid-morning... And the Scottish Open golf championship is on along the road this weekend so people were told there would be much more traffic than usual on the A1. So I've not been bothered by many visitors this afternoon!

Thanks. I'm trying a new medication, and the light sensitivity started as soon as I started taking it; it may wear off. I'm hoping.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Good morning lovelies.

Yes, thank you Rosemary. I'm sorry I've not been able to shoulder my share of the responsibilities these past many months. You're a star.

I took the huge step of having my hair chopped off on Wednesday. Seriously thought about it for months as I was fed up with having to put it up every day because of the heat.
Do I like it? Hmmm.
It'll take some getting used to.
Don't know if I'll maintain it at this length or grow it out again.
Busy day in store. Gotta do some running about downtown and gotta pack. We're off to Rhodes tomorrow for a couple weeks of Greek island hopping. No idea which ones yet. All we've booked so far is the flights and the first three nights on Rhodes. We'll sort ferries and whatnot when we're there.
Gonna take advantage of Dave still being in bed by looking at the just finished just started thread.
There's hundreds of posts in there I've not read...

Darren Humphries (darrenhf) | 6903 comments Good morning all and well done the England Cricket team.

The last day of the working week. Once I'm through that it'll be the working weekend (where the work is wrangling my kids' busy lives. I really must get me one of those).

Have a lovely day and remember if you don't make it great then it's unlikely anyone else will do it for you.

message 11421: by Lynne (Tigger's Mum) (new)

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Good morning, had a lovely evening visiting some of OH ‘s cousins and their family who were on holiday near Newport, Pembs. Two of the daughters were my bridesmaids. Lovely catch up of family we hardly ever see.
i had my hair chopped short last week, too - with the added ‘bonus’ of only leaving the ‘Arctic Silver’ as that famous author Jim Webster described it. You’re right it takes some getting used to, but it’s only hair and it grows again if you like a change. I can’t wear mine up ever as it seems to trigger a migraine if it’s pulled tight in clips or hair bands.

message 11422: by Will (new)

Will Once (willonce) | 3772 comments Morning all. Nothing much to report. It's a Friday, which is something.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12599 comments Think I spoke too soon about my eye, doesn’t feel quite as good today and focusing on the screen is hard. Knee not great, and keep feeling sick. Oh well, at least it’s Fri, even if it keeps trying to rain! Ended up having to drop a parcel at the post office for my neighbour last night, so forgot to go to the chemist, so doing that after work. She actually bought me some tea last night, hope that doesn’t continue, have bought too much food for her to feed me and enjoying eating what I want again!

Fingers crossed it is a temporary side effect Alicia. I hope I have your kind of life when I retire Kath, sounds lovely. Hope you get used to short hair Patti! Enjoy going round Greek islands, very jealous.

message 11424: by Will (new)

Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments Why can't it rain? I seem to be spending too much time with watering cans and hose pipes.

In other news, I'm playing with some friends in Aberystwyth tonight. There might be some FB pictures if it isn't too big a disaster.

message 11425: by Lynne (Tigger's Mum) (new)

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Why do i have mental images of Will playing with some friends and they don’t involve musical instruments? 😀
I could say I’m up with the lark this morning but the truth is more like I was shoved out of bed by the dog. He does it very gently - once in between us he just gradually extends until we have so little room one of us gets up.

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments I had a similar image Lynne :)

Been at my easel since half five. I'm going full tortured artist this week

It's kind of drizzly out there, but very mild. I don't like it

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12599 comments I was woken up early by one of the cats! Have tried getting back to sleep, but failed, for some reason I've woken up with a sore shoulder, opposite side to my sore knee. No plans, but neighbour was trying to arrange a catch up with someone we know from CP, not sure if she has managed it. Overcast here, can't decide whether to risk doing the washing or not. Amazon are starting some good deals, trying to decide what I want to go for.

Animals are good at that, aren't they Lynne? Blimey R, that's an early start.

message 11428: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments I was woken by next door but one. As we were last weekend. Having their drive block paved so it was ripping up concrete last weekend and compacting sand this morning. As it's only happening at weekends we assume the job is unofficial. But noisy!
Happy Saturday, everyone.

message 11429: by Darren (new)

Darren Humphries (darrenhf) | 6903 comments A busy day ahead, mainly because of children. Showers should be descending, but no sign of them right now. Hopefully, the friend's barbecue will escape them.

message 11430: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4836 comments Up too early - couldn't get back to sleep because too hungry.

Seems to be the day for it.

The plan is to go for a trike ride before it gets hot. The temperature here can go for a wide range, so it's possible to do several things in a day, outside, if you pick the right time.

Very convenient.

They are starting the re-roofing of the whole building - it's going to be a massive job, occupying weeks, and there is going to be a LOT of noise, but after 19 years, it is deemed necessary.

If we'd known, we would have waited until this was over before moving in!

I have lots of ear plugs, and the kind of industrial-strength ear protectors jack-hammer operators use.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12599 comments Ended up having quite a productive day, might not have finished the washing up, but I did random things like wipe the dashboard in the car and changed the air freshener! Did a few errands, including picking up home made cheese and onion pie and cherry cake for tea, and got some effervescent co-codamol, figured if effervescent paracetamol are more effective, so must the effervescent co-codamol. Rang Vodafone to change to sim only to save a bit of money, ended up agreeing to have a new phone! £6 cheaper a month, and more data and minutes, bonus! My first thought was 'ooh, more money for books'! Then after getting off the phone, received an e-mail from PetPlan saying my claim had been paid, so definitely some books being bought - neighbour doesn't think I should as I have too many, you can tell she isn't a book person!

Hope you enjoyed going out on the trike Alicia, hope you get more sleep tonight.

Kelly Clayton | 1040 comments Cooo-eeee. Will catch up on the posts later. Our wifi needs to be picked up, rolled into a crumpled ball and kicked into touch! We've had the router on and off more times than I can count. Hope this post gets through the internet thingie!!!

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4836 comments Desley (Cat fosterer) wrote: "...Hope you enjoyed going out on the trike Alicia, hope you get more sleep tonight...."

Thanks, Desley. It has been too HOT to ride since I bought it - unless I get up early, and if I do that, I'm probably not safe riding anything. But soon.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12599 comments Another early wake up, can't say I feel all that great, and eye is quite twingy, but had lovely cuddles with Lucy. Some housework to do, then a lot of online orders, including a new phone case, hopefully then I'll get excited about having a new phone. Sun is shining.

Sorry you are having internet issues Kelly. Shame you haven't been able to use the trike Alicia.

you sound as bad as me
I was away and spent Thursday night in a hotel. I slept in, woke up at 6:30am and just got up, got showered and went for breakfast :-)
I ended up catching the train home an hour earlier than the one I'd intended

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments I made up for it this morning, I slept till 9 probably because the dog & OH got up and left me some room. Beautiful day here. Looking forward to the British GP, not going to Silverstone just watching on tv in comfort.
Our grandson went on his first school trip. He was so excited to tell his mum when he got home. He’d been in a bus to somewhere where there was grass and toilets.

Kelly Clayton | 1040 comments T'internet is behaving.

Woke up at 9am this morning, which really upset me. We got up, accidentally, at 7.30am last Sunday and had the longest Sunday ever. Brilliant.

Been out at a friends this afternoon for their little girl's 8th birthday. They have 3 kids and every year invite us as the only non-family members to celebrate the birthdays. Honoured, and love those kids. (Husband has been friends with the dad since they played tennis together at 10 years old).

I went alone as no way was I getting my tennis-coach husband away from the telly today. Now writing for a bit and then a bbq dinner to enjoy the sun.

G J (Gaff to my friends) Reilly | 1836 comments Morning all. Finally the last week of term! Better still, there are no lessons tomorrow as it's school Eisteddfod day!!!

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments Morning all. Day started off weirdly until I realised I had got my contact lenses the wrong way round! Must have put them into the wrong sides of the case last night

From what Rosemary and Lynne thought, I need to change my image. Or maybe not.

It's beautifully hot here, too hot to work seriously. Resident grand daughter has gone off to a theme park with school, so the house is lovely and quiet.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12599 comments Woke up early again, asthma was quite bad, so figured the anti-histamines aren’t strong enough, so have changed back to my old ones, and eye is less twingy too. One of my colleagues has just seen me hobbling up the stairs and asked what I’m going to be like when I’m 60! My response was I dread to think. DPD offered to deliver my new phone today instead, but the timeslot was 5.06 – 6.06pm, our offices shut at 5! Even if I was on a 5 finish rather than 4.30, didn’t fancy sitting in our reception waiting for it! Hopefully tomorrow will be a better time slot. Think I’ve decided which case I’m going for. Made a pesto bean salad for lunch, was yummy, will do that again.

Bet that made for an interesting start R!

Lovely day here, I can’t go out though I’m waiting for a Tesco delivery. Daughter has the flu and little lad off school again with a high temperature. Daughter is still at work but nipped out for a doctors appt. as she’s had so much time off she daren’t have more sick leave. She’s got annual holidays next week so she’s trying to make it to Friday.
