Welcome back Patti. You can make the Discord meetings on a Monday now!I'm not one for googling my symptoms/conditions and leaving it to the professionals Desley, but I have less faith in them than I used to have. These things were sent to try us and they bloody well manage it, but persevere and you will prevail.
Hope everyone is going to have a wonderful day at the start of the heatwave (a tropical heatwave, the temperature's rising, it's hardly surprising...)
France issued warnings and shut schools, so it might be pretty bad.
Think it's a to be small heatwave in a tiny part of southern England, which of course means the entire country has heard about nothing else for days. Mild diversion from stories about tory bastards though.Morning all.
Patti (baconater) wrote: "What heatwave? I'm freezing!":-D of course you're freezing, it's Barry-bados!
P.s. Morning all.
Middle-of-the-night, everyone.2:30 am, and the body decides it desperately needs food. So I'm having a bowl of cereal while one half of me wants to go back to sleep, and the other half says we'll never make it to morning without some calories.
Easiest to feed both, and hope sleep will resume.
The maps I've seen for Europe's weather are scary, and India's is the stuff of nightmares. Hope you're all ok in the UK.
It’s hot here, not as hot as France though. My neighbours have said it’s in the mid 30s in the shade and our region isn’t as bad as others. They love a good canicule panic. It buries other unwelcome political rubbish in the news. It’s 21 here and cloudless. Off to school sports in a bit. No I will not compete!
Afternoon! It's roasting here. I was helping out with graduations this morning so I got to stand out in the sunshine, I'll be going out for a lunchtime walk shortly.
Sorry about all your health issues Desley, especially your eye, it's a shame your Dr wasn't a bit more sympathetic/understanding.
I hope you slumbered better on a fuller stomach Alicia! I can never sleep if I'm hungry either so I'm partial to a midnight snack every now and then
Feel a bit brighter this morning, figure what will be will be, no point thinking how unfair it is to have all these things at my age, it won’t change anything. Probably a good thing I did quit my voluntary work though. Drove myself to work today, was a bit anxious but made it. Unfortunately I forgot to pick up my eye drops this morning, didn’t notice until my 3rd lot were due, so had to nip home, good job I only live 3 miles away. I was that flustered though I tried to go with just my car keys! Sun is shining today, that always helps you feel better (well, except when you have light sensitivity!). Lucy is going for acupuncture tonight, going to joke to the vet it’s a shame she can’t give me some at the same time! My friend convinced me to take advantage of the Prime deal for Kindle Unlimited last night – free for 3 months. So much for catching up on my paid books. Glad you arrived safely Patti, seems like you brought some nice weather with you. Hope you got back to sleep Alicia. I woke up after an hour last night starving, luckily I keep some cereal bars in the bedroom for these occasions, and a bottle of cordial in the bathroom in case I then need a drink. Thanks for the sympathy guys. Luckily after looking confused the other night, I did persuade Lucy to sleep at the side of me so we were touching without it being painful.
It's alright, you're limited to 10 books (or thereabouts) at a time on Kindle unlimited! Or I am, at least... Seems strange that it's called unlimited when it is limited. To get a new one I have to return one.
What an odd day. Went out to do the big shop and returned to find an email from Amazon inviting me to join their Vine Community. They send me 'stuff' each month to review. I'm a trusted reviewer. Who'da thunkit? Spent quite a bit of time reading up on it but you can dip out at any time so I may as well give it a go.
Does sound interesting KathHere it got up to about 25, Patterdale was pretty impressive, and it was a nice day :-)

I like being in KU - it makes my readers feel they're getting a bargain. Happy reading.

Kath wrote: "Stayed in the Youth Hostel at Patterdale in my youth. Happy memories."funnily enough it's one I missed
I very rarely stop in the Patterdale valley but I'll drive through it several times a year, coming back from places just west of Penrith and I'm sick of the M6 so I'll go home over Kirkstone instead
Not something you do lightly in winter :-)
Good morning, up early to take Big H to school. He’s the tallest in his class. It’s really windy here, I’ve just moved my car out of the garage and the wind nearly blew the door out of my hand. There will be some wicked sunburns tonight and the lifeboats will be busy. Have a good day all.
Kath wrote: "Stayed in the Youth Hostel at Patterdale in my youth. Happy memories."We stayed at quite a lot of hostels in the lakes - can't say that I remember that one
Stayed at some hostels here in the UK and France when I was young and had no money. Now that I'm old and have no money, I stay at home.Where there is no heatwave. It's gone. It was here yesterday and now it's gone. Allegedly, it will return by the afternoon.
Well done the lionesses. I'll say no more so as not to bore the sportsaphobes amongst Patti (I mean all of you).
Have a good one everyone.
By which I mean 'day', but if you can have a good one of the other thing well then lucky you.
Last time I was at Patterdale YHA I was 14. Don't really recall much about it. Only that it was a school trip, and half of us (who were in the scouts) were better with the maps and compass than the teachers nominally in charge of us
I have never been to Patterdale. In fact I'm not entirely sure where it is.Good morning all. School is out here now so kiddies everywhere...
Jay-me (Janet) wrote: "Kath wrote: "Stayed in the Youth Hostel at Patterdale in my youth. Happy memories."We stayed at quite a lot of hostels in the lakes - can't say that I remember that one"
I remember the walk to it and how glad I was to get there. Can't remember the one the night before but it was a fifteen miler that day. The most adventurous was Black Sail Hut. No running water or electricity.
And good morning!
It's windy, keeping it cool (long sleeve T shirt type weather) and it's mostly cloudy. Maybe the heat will come tomorrow... I'm in Kent - how can it be so hot on the continent and miss me out?!Congratulations, Kath, and three cheers!
Will wrote: "Always wanted to get to Black Sail, and never managed it."I never went to Black Sail - my brother has though.
The one I remember most was the one at the top of Honister Pass, because that day we arrived absolutely soaked and had to go down into Keswick to find a launderette to dry our clothes the next morning as there were so many wet items in the hostel drying room that it couldn't cope.

So sorry to hear this. I know how painful this can be but you should console yourself that she would have known nothing about it.

So sorry about this, Lynne. I know they become a part of your family. xx

So sorry, Lynne. K lost her beloved poodle just over a year ago in the same way, so I understand how you feel.

Sorry to hear this Lynne.
I went home and hugged my dog after I read your message .
Thank you for the kind words, the consolation is that she’s was fine right up to today, no suffering, no age related problems, so for her I couldn’t ask for more. House is very quiet though even though she wasn’t very big or noisy. The vet found a huge mass on her spleen.
Not sure what happened to my post! So sorry to hearthat Lynne, I didn't know shewas going to the vet. So hard when it is unexpected x
I had a post go missing as well but had nt the heart to redo it Desley. She was just not right this morning, her gums were white, they found a mass on her spleen and it ruptured in surgery. Spaniels are stoic little dogs and often don’t show pain so we were taken by surprise.
Thank you everyone for the well wishes and loveliness.Lynn, really sorry to hear about Daisy,
Will oops hope your phone is back on,
Patti, Welcome home!
Alicia, I hope the midnight munchies don’t become a thing!
Desley, hope your eye, knees and feet are better soon!
And everyone else, helloooo!
McMini went to do a taster day at his new school. ‘Real lab coats’ were provided for science, and goggles and were put on to ‘eye of the tiger’ which sounds hilarious.
Talk went well, then did two eyebombing workshops which also went extremely well. I feel there is a hint somewhere. I need to get cash together and do some eyebombing books. Maybe I should test the market first though.
Lastly, did I offer everyone a free book but I’m not sure if I did it here. Patti is there anywhere I should post it? Appreciated everyone’s sympathy and loveliness over the last few months so if you do want a brand new 17k short by me, it’s available on bookfunnel until 1st July from here:

Cringing apologies if I posted this before and it was bad, let me know where I should put it instead and I will.
Cheers
MTM
Good morning folks. The warmest of best wishes to Lynn and Desley ... and anyone else who needs them.
Thank you Will and everyone who has thought of us. Well that heatwave seems to have brought us thick fog this morning. Have a good day all xx
Typically I've woken up extra early cos it's Saturday, at least the washing I did last night was pegged out before 6.30! Debating whether to have a nap but need to fit it round eye drops. Friends from Malta want to go on the Worth Valley Railway, I am supposed to be going but it might be too sunny, will see when everyone else is up. As the cleaner came yesterday, I only have the washing up and cat stuff to do. Glad the talk went well MT, and McMini enjoyed his taster day. Hope you are all OK Lynne, how is your other dog?
Lynn, so sorry to hear your news. Words are not enough, but they are all we can offer. The sun's got its magnifying glass out and is preparing to fry us ants. Remember to wear suncream, use the shade and avoid sunstroke.
I'm making it sound like the sun is unwelcome, which it's not, but we have to learn to be careful.
We're British, so of course we won't and there'll be sore heads and arms and legs all over the place later (hopefully still attached to the owners)
Have a lovely day everyone.
Also, on today's Kindle daily deals, The Spy Who Came In from the Cold is only 99p. That's a bargain.
Devastated for you Lynne. Heartbreaking. Our dogs and cats, and other animals we love, become our family. Boiling here today, but am way behind on a deadline so am in the study, with all the windows closed as the roof is being powerwashed.
Lynne (Tigger's Mum) wrote: "Just had the phone call from the vets to say Daisy died in theatre. Shocked and very upset."
Ouch, Lynne. So very sorry to hear this. A loved dog is hard to lose.
Sorry about your wee dog Lynne xx sending hugs Not that hot here today really, actually quite pleasant. Thunder is rumbling around us now though and it’s gone apocalyptically gloomy.

Shortly after I wrote this, we drove to Hampshire and it was definitely hot there.
Today, back in Kent, my thermometer in the shade in the garden says it's 29 degrees.
I'm waiting for the cool, cool, cool of the evening (that's from a song, if you're wondering!).
Bright, sunny, and not too hot yet here - I'm trying to gather enough energy for a short trike ride. It will be hot later in the afternoon. Interesting weather patterns they have here, and, with low humidity, it's far more comfortable than similar temperatures would be back in New Jersey. It really isn't the heat - it's the humidity.
Well, not quite as nice a day as I'd hoped, because of my neighbours back, she wanted to go on the train to Keighley, eat in the train station and get back to go to the museum, I said we have guests over, we can't take them to Keighley and only show them the train station, so we had a brief walk down the road to a cake shop! When they went in the museum, I stayed on the platform reading, but in bright sun, I kept getting a cloud pass over my vision. Now debating what to do for teaHope you got your deadline sorted Kelly

funny you should say that, apparently we're in for a heat wave
Good (if unusual) to have you back in the same time zone.
And today I've got to go to a meeting in Patterdale to look at environmental projects. :-)
