Thanks everyone. It’s been tough but it was entirely his decision and he was so peaceful. Also, we can do nothing much about the admin side, there being a bank holiday and all, so it’s given us a chance to exchange funny stories about Dad. There’s a whole cannon about his driving, and we couldn’t help giggling about one where there was a huge thunderstorm and Dad and Mum woke up and remembered we’d all forgotten to put the rabbit away and he was still out in his run. So Dad rushed out to rescue him and put him back in his living quarters in the garage. But as he got to the door the rain began. Complete stair rods.

Mum was somewhat surprised to look out of the window and see Dad, completely starkers, rushing into the orchard in the pelting rain, where he grabbed our rabbit from the shelter in his run and legged it down to the garage. The rabbit was fine and Dad dried himself with a towel.

‘What happened?’ asked Mum. ‘You had no clothes on.’
‘Yes,’ said Dad, ‘I didn’t want to get my pyjamas wet.’

Then there’s the time he and Mum took some friends to the common room guest night, which Dad had actually organised, and turned up on the wrong night.

I bought an Oculus Quest VR headset on Saturday, and it's incredible.

There's a game which is essentially the Matrix, and it's very intense.

Star Wars game that has Darth Vader staring down at you.

Woke up in very little pain, and not itchy, although still a bit drained. Did wake up to rain, but sun is now trying to come out. So far only plans are finishing the housework and watching TV, found loads on Prime I want to watch. Hopefully we'll get to empty the car today, and then I'm going to have a soak in the bath

I read that a while ago MT, I think we have a lot of empathy in our group. That reminds me I hope my brother still has his VR headset Michael, I really enjoyed it, except the rollercoaster, nearly fell off the chair!

Every book of fiction gives you access to why other people behave as they do, even if the characters are 'cardboard' and what you're getting is the author's opinion of behavior.

Repeat that enough, with enough different authors, and you learn a lot about this human race we're in.

Don't do that, and all you have is what you observe yourself, and figure out about motivation of other people from that, because you can't hear what's going on inside their heads.

Some of us have been doing this since before we were capable of putting up resistance - I should hope it shows.

50 pages from the end of my book when I got off the train, so frustrating. I did finish 3 other books yesterday though so I shouldn't complain.

Congrats for being the first to post Jud, it has been quiet this weekend. I had something similar on Sat, I took my book when we went for litter on Sat (cos it’s wrong to go anywhere without a book), but left it in my neighbours car and I only had 4 pages left! I like Halifax Will

Funny old day here. Hopefully all back to normal soon. We had a lightbulb really go with a bang a couple of weeks ago. It took out the lights and blew the trip switch and a fuse. Husband fixed it but it even puzzled him as other fuses needed replacing. Afterwards I said if that had gone when I was alone I would have had to stay in the dark as I haven’t the confidence or the knowledge to try to sort it. He decided to get it replaced with a new fuse box with switches. That’s taken the electrician most of the day. So we’ve been without power. I’ve been like a lost soul not knowing what to do. I’ll do my ironing she thinks. doh! Can’t hoover either, can’t cook. Ended up in the garden with the dogs most of the afternoon, it’s amazing how dependant on electricity we are. No internet of course. I’m now waiting for a Tesco delivery so once that’s been and put away I can settle.

First time in my life, saw the chiropodist. Had a corn on the underside of my foot, felt like I'd got a thorn in my foot.
Anyway, the full treatment was £15 for a home visit which I thought was reasonable

Its widdling down here but the garden needs a bit of rain. Not often I say that in Wales but it has been very dry.
Our electric job not finished yet but it’s working. Not sure what to start as it might have to stop when the electrician comes back. I can use the hob but not the oven so it might be curry today. The dog will have to wait for his chicken thighs. (Boned and cooked). I really cannot get my head round this new craze of feeding raw chickens - bones and all to dogs. I wash my hands and worktops carefully after handling raw chicken so to let my dog drag one round the floor goes against all hygiene rules. Salmonella bombs imho.

well she lives perhaps 10 miles away, but I suspect she organises her round sensibly, so she'll work her way back

Yes, it was annoying Jud, especially as by the time I realised I couldn’t be bothered to go and get her keys to get the book, so had to wait a day to finish it! Sorry you are having a bad day! Ah, didn’t realise Gentleman Jack was filmed in Yorkshire. Glad the electrics are sorted, it is amazing how reliant we are on it. That does sound a good deal Jim. I get feeding raw meat to animals Lynne, that is what they would eat in the wild, and bones are safer raw, plus you kill some of the nutrients by cooking. That said, I wouldn’t do it for my cats, just because you have to be careful to get the right ratio for taurine and I wouldn’t feel confident doing that. Plus as a vegi I don’t actually like handling meat. Hadn’t thought about the effects on humans though.

I’m the same for raw feeding Desley plus Billy’s would need a lot and it’s got to be a proper mix. Dogs need taurine too. taking raw meat on a 2 -3 day road trip for him would complicate matters when we go to France He’s been great on his food he has now.
I’m not into bones - Daisy has worn her teeth down too so the vets said no more bones.
I’m on cat duties for a few days, my daughter is camping. So I’ve got to fill and empty the beasties.

Urgh, had a dreadful night sleep, woke up at 3 quite thirsty, was still awake at 5.30. Ended up buying a new TV last night, now my dilemma is which TV streaming service I want to use, and maybe become anti-social to binge watch! Neighbours lodger made home made salted caramel, then a tart and gave me a jar with some of the leftover caramel in it, it’s really good, I had to fight the cat off! Was annoyed this morning, I had an appointment for bloods at 8.30, didn’t get in till 8.50, was hoping that early in the day they’d be running on time! She is hopeful they will be back for my app on Mon, but if not, she’d go through what is back and see me again for the rest, but I’m not going twice, I’ll ring on Mon and if not back, I’ll rearrange. Been raining here all day and neighbour wants to do food shopping after work, can’t say I’m in the mood.

Never heard of that place Kath! Sorry you are having so many power cuts Patti, have you decided what to do after the summer holidays yet? Sorry you also didn't sleep well Jud, hope you have a meeting.

My main news for the day comes from the ex-teenager who has landed herself a job before her final results on the degree come out. And at 25K as well. Plus, it's just what she wanted to do, cancer research. Hard work does pay off. Unfortunately its in Cambridge, on the other side of the country, but such is life

Struggled to get to sleep and woke up early, so feel tired again today. Had an awful cramp in my foot when I put my shoes on to come to work. Luckily the cleaner is coming today, so not much housework. Need to get petrol and money for her, might leave setting the new TV up till the morning! So far Now TV looks to have the best selection, although receptionist did try and convince me to get all 3!

I’m waiting for the electrician, poor chap was in a lot of pain when he came last time and didn’t finish the job. He’s had a back operation that hasn’t been successful. I’ve been on cat feeding duties as daughter is away. I just hope they don’t wreck the place in temper as I’m not letting them out in case they dont come back and I daren’t leave them out all night.
Some nice boats in the marina, sail training ships and a couple of old schooners to see.

Work ethic is a very good thing. In offspring, it is a real gift (probably based on parental example). So easy for them to feel and act entitled.

Well done to her Will! As to work ethic, my younger daughter has just come home from uni having secured a grad job at one of the big firms in Edinburgh, which starts in September. I'd have been quite happy if she'd taken it easy over the summer but the next day she was back doing her housekeeping job at the hotel round the corner... I don't know where she gets it from either!

Well, got so tired last night I was doing stupid things, so went to bed early, which of course has meant I got up early. Knee is killing today, so took a painkiller but haven't managed to get back to sleep, so am hoping I will a bit later. Luckily I don't have much housework to do, but do need to set the new TV up and take the old one to the tip, found a new function on my box last night too. Shame the weather is nice, so I wont feel like sitting watching new TV. Would be nice if it got warm enough to sit outside reading.

TV was easy to set up, but not sure I like it - I know it is the same size as the old one, but looks much smaller! Am going to try it for a week and see what I think. We have a re-use hub, which is kind of like a charity shop but they can take electrical items and they have said they will take it, so if I do keep the new one, at least it will go to a new home rather than the tip. Knee still bad, can't decide if rest is good or not. Sun disappeared, it keeps trying to rain.

Sorry about your knees, ladies - pain on walking is very limiting. People here are getting used to seeing me scooting backward whilst sitting on my walker - hurts less, is faster. Though if one more person tells me I need a rear-view mirror, I will probably scream.

Had to go to bed early last night, couldn't get comfy on the sofa so thought lying in bed would be easier, not convinced it was! Slept through till 5.30, fed the cats at 7 and managed to get a few more hours sleep, not sure whether I should have stayed in bed though. Bit of housework to do, need to do the online pet supply orders and update my book challenges. Then going to have a soak in the bath.

It must be.catching, I’ve got a touch of sciatica. I’m blaming the dog. I wake up with him lying across my legs and he’s like a ton weight. He defies the laws of physics as he can exert a downward force far greater than his weight without moving. Once on the bed we can’t shift him unless we both get hold of the bedclothes and roll him off. We don’t like to do that in case he hurts himself.
I’ve just gad to smile at a true news item I’ve just seen. A one legged British driver in a Lamborghini has been stopped by french police after being clocked at 205 kph. You couldn’t make it up. 😄

How do? Had a great little holiday with the kids and their kids in three cottages in Baldersdale. When asked what had been the best bit of the holiday, the youngest, aged three, shouted 'Ketchup!' Deary me.
