Jim | 21812 comments we had a metal sheep trough blown across a field!
A neighbour had a large sycamore in their hedge blown down into our field
I've said I'll deal with it, so we've got firewood for next winter and a mate of mine who's an enthusiastic wood turner will have something to play with as well

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12608 comments At least something good has come from your neighbour losing a sycamore

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments Metal sheep?

Blowing a hoolie here too. I’ve had to tape a board over the bathroom fan because it was whirring round like a high pitched turbine with the wind coming through it in an icy blast.

Not only that but when we've cut the trunk off at about three feet from the ground, we'll be able to push the tree back up onto its roots because it's come over on them.

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments I'm giggling at the metal sheep! Does the wool make Brillo pads?

I'm surprised nobody seems to know where steel wool comes from!

✿Claire✿ (clairelm) | 2602 comments Evening everyone. I'm a bit all over the place with times lately, night shifts are doing a number on me! Only three more shifts til a week's leave (with a training course in the middle but that was by choice!). Gonna have to use some of that time for my next essay though, I swear my search history is going to be worse than most writers!!

message 9766: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21812 comments I think Alicia is right, Desley.
Hopefully you'll have time to relax a bit and rest and see if that helps

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12608 comments Up early again, the headache from yesterday is still lingering. Sunday chores this morning, then one of my neighbours friends is coming round, decided to give away some of the cat food my spoilt brats are refusing to eat, hope hers are more grateful! Then popping over to the retail park, might go to the carvery for some tea. Problem is I'm finding relaxing and resting a struggle, too used to running round doing anything, sitting round makes me feel I should be doing something more productive!

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Like reading? ;) Hope you soon settle to a new rhythm, Desley.
Morning, each.
Just got a review to write for Netgalley then I'm back in the edits!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12608 comments Well, Lucy is good at making me stay on the sofa, but I can mainly only watch TV, as she lays on my arm!

There's a thought for you Desley
If you want to feel you're doing something, read and then write a review.
That way you get the benefit of reading with a nod to the Protestant ethic which says you have to be working :-)

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12608 comments If only I was good at writing reviews Jim, that would be a great idea, although don't think there is much protestant ethic, not being at all religious! Well, my neighbours friend came round, was slightly in awe of how 'in tune' with my cats I am, but thought the girls seem content, which was nice. Had a slightly interesting visit to the retail park, neighbour went to Next while I went to Boots, luckily I went to find out what was taking her so long, she had been too late to pick one of the parcels up so it got sent back. They found her an alternative but it was more expensive and she didn't have her purse, so I had to get my purse out! Then we drove to the other side in case I got carried away in Pets at Home (was good, only bought two boxes!), we went into Asda living where I managed to get what I needed and two birthday presents, unfortunately when we went to put them in the car before going to Pets at Home I couldn't find my car keys! Went back into Asda, no sign of them - turns out there is a hole in my bag and they had got into the lining! Must fix that on one of my days off. Then drove to the carvery, there was a long queue for that, so we ended up having a meat free carvery, which had odd things like mac and cheese! There were noisy kids on the next table, so we didn't stay for pudding, but instead neighbour suggested going to Costa, which I did - I tried saying no, she just bought me one anyway! Then got home and had to make the bed and finish the washing up, now about to have a soak in the bath while reading my book.

Kelly Clayton | 1040 comments loads going on, here-as usual. Glad the move went well Alicia, and really hope you can get your dad in the place close to you MT.

You always seem to be doing so much, Desley. Enjoy your soak and read.

I STILL have this damn cold. Finally out of bed and I am feeling a bit better but the constant cough, cough, choke, cough is driving me mad. Is it Spring yet?

message 9773: by M.T. (new)

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Sorry to hear you have a cold Kelly, McMini had a temperature of 102 this evening. Not sure what that is in new money but it’s as high as it’s ever been. That said, 20 minutes after calpol he was eating supper. He has been sick a couple of times but I think it is due to the temperature rather than it being an actual sick bug. He can eat perfectly normally so long as we keep him medicated to keep the temperature down.

Weird.

So, yeh, no writing.

Cheers

MTM

Nice and sunny here this morning, I wonder if it'll last. I'm torn between going for a run and going out for lunch later... I think we all know what will win :o)

Anyway, got two jobs to apply for by the end of today so I better get cracking.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12608 comments Slept through but still didn’t want to get up! Having IT issues again here, everything is taking twice as long as it should, which is incredibly frustrating.

Sorry that you still aren’t 100% Kelly. Hope McMini is better today MT. Good luck with the job applications Jud.

Sorry to hear your McMini has been ill, we've just got through ten days of ill kids, one of which ended up scaring the crap out of us, leading to a trip to hospital in the back of an ambulance. She's absolutely fine now, thankfully, but they don't half put us through the mixer some times.

message 9782: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Goodness Ben! Glad to hear she's fine and dandy now, it's amazing how they bounce back, isn't it?

Your IT was REALLY down then Desley, not just not working.

One job application down 1 more to go

Kelly Clayton | 1040 comments Hope McMini is feeling better.

Ben, wow, that must've been frightening.

Desley, I feel your pain. I spent 2 hours tonight trying to help my mother-in-law upload pictures and descriptions of 5 of her paintings via a gallery's online form for a forthcoming exhibition. I finally worked out that the form didn't like .jpeg so googled and found a converter to turn them into .jpg. Brain is exhausted!

At the time I sort of went on autopilot, you don't have time to think, but in the aftermath, yeah, absolutely terrifying. Took me a good couple of days to even begin to process.

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments My friend Alex messaged me on Facebook - just popping over to Wales at the weekend - do you want to come with me? So now I am going to have a weekend in Wales. I bet it'll rain.

message 9789: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Of course it'll rain.

Sorry to hear of your scare, Ben.

Another mid-week holiday here. Bloody pointless. I'm spending it doing laundry and shopping and cooking.

Had a lovely weekend with our guests from Yangon but by 4pm yesterday at work, I was practically on my knees.

Educational consultant in this week, so it's meeting after meeting.

I love meetings.

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4843 comments Patti (baconater) wrote: "I'm spending it doing laundry and shopping and cooking...."

I finally have a washer and dryer after five months without one, and did my own laundry. Wow. It's the little things. Small stackable unit with lots of bells and whistles I never needed before (and you can get the same models with even more b&w - overkill for my laundry).

Nice being on a single floor, too - no stairs - husband used to haul all our stuff down to the second floor community facilities in a couple of suitcases, and do several large loads at once. He said he didn't mind, but it seemed to take all day by the time he got it all. I hated making him do it.

The facilities where you live can make such a difference. I relished doing such a simple chore. And it's two steps to hang things in my closet.

G J (Gaff to my friends) Reilly | 1836 comments Morning all. No laundry news, sorry.
It's overcast but warm in the valley today. Fingers crossed the rain'll hold off so that the little darlings can got out to play. They don't 'alf get wound up when it rains and they're kept in all day!

Benjamin Appleby-Dean (benjaminappleby-dean) Morning, everyone. Grey kind of day again here.

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments Morning all, grey here too. Got a meeting this morning, trying to wind a group up. Whatever happens though - I'm out! :) If someone else wants to be Chair and find a new sec and treasurer then that is entirely up to them.

Anna Faversham (annafaversham) | 1752 comments Very pale blue sky with a lot of white and grey puffy clouds here in Kent. I always hope the sun will peek through and warm us just a little.

Writing day today...

Byeee!

message 9795: by Ben (new)

Ben Bruce | 40 comments Little bit of haze here, being broken up now that the sun is getting to it, so hopefully a bright day. Not a brilliant day on the cards, popping out of work to pay my respect to someone who was a stalwart of my local football club for the thirty years I've been going down and well before that.

message 9796: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21812 comments grey and drear but I'm breathing in and out with reasonable regularity so life is good :-)

message 9797: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Morning!

Sadly, I think there will be very little to no reading time with these jobs Jim. They do say lightning never strikes twice and I think being paid to read would come under the same banner. Shame.

Bit of a dull day today, glad I went running yesterday. Nathan has the health visitor this afternoon so I get to leave early, yippee!

It'll be a busy evening, Kathleen wants me to teach her to make a dress and we have GB as well so it'll be all go once I get back from the Health Visitor. No idea what I'll make the kids for tea, I really need to start meal planning again. Washing report? It's a tsunami in our house, must get a wash on this afternoon when I get home.

I hope everyone is on the mend and doing well littles and biggles alike.

message 9798: by M.T. (new)

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Bloody hell Ben! Good luck with the jobs Jud. Take an umbrella GL.

Had a meeting with the social worker scheduled for this am but McMini, while better, is still crook. Luckily, before I could call to cancel, the social worker's office called me. She's ill so could I cancel the meeting. I just laughed and said how wonderful it was that she was ill too as I was going to ring and cancel at 9.00!

So here we are, late up, relaxing. My temperature was normal this am! Woot! McMini was 100 in one ear and 99 in the other but a huge improvement on yesterday's numbers for both of us.

Lovely here, sunny, bright and cold.

Cheers

MTM

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12608 comments Got a text off a friend last night saying she was laid up in bed but needed her medication, so I picked it up from the chemist she uses and popped it through the letterbox for her – unfortunately I was supposed to go out with her tomorrow afternoon, so need a new plan now. Feet really sore today, it’s a year on Thu since I injured it, don’t think there is much chance of it getting better now. IT have now asked us to do a bit of tidying up in our bit, so clearly space is an issue! Woke up early and made myself get up, although not before snuggling into Lucy’s belly for 5 mins.
Yeah, I get your point Jud – although they decided to not tell anyone there had been issues, so we were all trying to use it as normal, which surely made matters worse. It always baffles me that when our server/internet acts up IT decide not to tell people and then stop answering the phone as they are fed up of explaining the problem! Still slow today, seems like every week this year we’ve had one issue or another. Sorry that you have had such a rough time with poorly kids Ben, glad everyone is on the mend. Hope the funeral goes as well as these things can. Wow, that’s a lot of time to sort out some pics Kelly! Enjoy your weekend in Wales GL! What do you have a mid week holiday for now Patti? Do you not have a cleaner there? Glad that you are enjoying the new place Alicia, it is amazing what small things make you happy! Jim, started one of your other books last night, read the first two to the cats last night, sadly the RSPCA not coming out is normal (although swans should have high priority!), but amazed the woman happily agreed to hold an adult swan, I wouldn’t dream of it, however much I Wanted to help! While cancelling worked out well for you MT, I do hope you don't have to wait too long for a new appointment. Glad McMini is getting better though.
