There was a thing about the weather forecast in AmericaApparently Florida sank to 53F (11C) and the denizens were being advised not to spend too much time outside, and to wear plenty of layers
At the same time, on the map it showed Ohio at -53F and they have apparently been interviewing people from the mid west who're currently in Florida and who are wearing shorts and t shirts because it's so mild :-)
Well, I wondered why it felt so cold when I opened the window for the girls, according to the phone, it was -2 but felt like -4! Supposed to snow this evening and overnight, but phone has changed times 3 times today, so going to go off what it looks like out of the window!

Typical. I wear sandals and no jacket to church on Sundays when it's around the 53F temp; the Californians are wearing winter coat - the puffy down kind.
Wonder how long it will take my body to adjust! But even in New Jersey, I'd walk across the lawn in bare feet to get the mail at these temperatures.
yes 53 isn't cold, even here in winter it's pleasantly mild :-)
Morning all. Touch of sleet in the valley today, but not enough to get excited about. I'm hoping that the forecast for Thursday's a little more accurate!

I stayed up too late last night watching TV, then Nathan woke up as I was going to bed so I'm exhausted today. Will have to get an early night tonight. I did make a coffee cosy though so at least I was productive while watching TV.
I dont think it could rain any harder. It’s torrential here. Breadmaking for me then, nice warm kitchen. Daughter’s tests showed up something completely different. Back to GPs for her and more examinations. I do feel sorry for her.

Hope things go well for your daughter LynneHere I had a meeting this afternoon in Ambleside, cancelled because of the weather, the M6 over Shap is bad, and the snow is supposed to move a bit further west and hit the Kendal/Windermere area
Put the a/c on in my classroom this morning and in the lounge as soon as I walked in the door this evening.Haven't used it in the bedroom overnight for a few weeks. Might do tonight.
Worst thing about living in a hot climate is having to wash my hair every day. Having to blow dry it adds an extra ten minutes to my morning routine.
Eh up. I hope they get somewhere with your daughter's problems, Lynne. The coldest I've ever been was on a field trip at Shap, Jim, in my university days. The sleet was smashing sideways at us and one side of my face was numb. I had to talk out of the side of my mouth like a gangster.
Had a disturbed night sleep, so got up early enough to get to work early, only to find roadworks that weren’t there on Sun, so my 3 mile journey took 30 mins. We had had snow overnight, but there were just bits left on some of the pavement this moring, it started snowing at 10, but the ground was quite wet, however about 11.30, it started going slightly white and now very white and it’s not supposed to stop till 5! Sorry you are so tired Jud. Sorry that daughters test results showed something different, do hope that they sort it soon for her.

Sorry she has to go back, and I hope she's better soon, now that they have eliminated the original, incorrect, diagnosis. Frustrating for you both. Hugs.
OK it's still dark but it doesn't seem a bad day, it's stopped raining at last!
Over my side of the country it's sunny but the dark clouds are rolling in.
Sunny but bitterly cold. But that's only toward the east coast. Worse elsewhere no doubt.
-3 degrees on the way in this morning! A smattering of snow left and a lot of ice. It's probably going to murder here today because they're keeping the little darlings inside until it clear ... which could be Saturday if the weather forecast is right about tomorrow!! :-D

Well, good morning all. Having tried to get to work and failing after three hours, I'm now back at home. Normally it takes 30 minutes tops.It seems that people forget how to drive when it snows. Then they abandon their vehicles wherever their intellect stops functioning.
The problem is that we get very little snow here, as we are in the Cheshire Gap (well know meteorological phenomenon). As a result, everyone panics.

Umm... Good afternoonHad a meeting this morning that took 90 minutes, I just about managed to keep my eyes open so straight after the meeting I went for a coffee. Yum. That'll tide me over until lunchtime too, hopefully.
Last day of January tomorrow, I think that warrants some small celebration
Well, was only slightly snowing when I left work, and the journey home wasn’t as bad. Set my alarm early to assess the situation, woke up at 5.30, looked out of the window to find it was snowing, which wasn’t supposed to happen! Looked soft, so opted to drive, and set off an hour early today – there was a lot of ice under the snow, so was very crunchy, I also needed petrol, and there was hardly any traffic, got here so early I had colleagues commenting!! Did struggle at the petrol station though, the cap was frozen! Is now very foggy, so not sure if the snow will go or not. There was some in the catio this morning, Chanel was curious about it, Coco went out but didn’t go anywhere near it. Lucy wasn’t impressed either. Will quite happily come and visit Patti!! My colleague said that last week Geoff, I do admit to rarely hitting the speed limit today
Direct flights from Heathrow to Bangkok, then a short hop from Bangkok to Mandalay.Unfortunately, the government doesn't allow tourists to stay in a private home but there's a very comfortable hotel just around the corner form our's that's very reasonable. Like 10 quid a night reasonable.
If you come in on a business visa you can stay at ours, though.
We're working on getting the school to support that.
Might take a while.
I asked for whiteboard markers that don't stink of chemicals three months ago. Still working on that....
Looks like a frosty night here tonight. That will be our first so far. I walked to the marina this morning but I had to take my coat off on the way home. I did a striptease, off came the gloves then the scarf then the coat. Nothing much happening here. snafu as some might say 😀

No snow here but a lovely sunny frosty day. Can’t do 29C Patti I don’t like anything much above 23C and turn into a wee greasy spot over 25 :)Did some dusting today. Must have had a sudden rush of blood to the head. Although to be fair the dust bunnies were on to their fifth generation and planning a takeover. It was carnage :)

Went swimming in the outdoor pool yesterday. Air, 64F. Water, 89F. Hot tub - hotter. California has been the right thing to do.

Wow ... I’ve fallen behind. Hope all is well with everyone, just popping in before I do my 10 minutes writing. Things are really horrible so we are just head down and plodding on through. Although Dad was in a much better mood yesterday than the day before. Had the conversation with Mum about stopping his life preserving meds. My brother and I think we should although it really hurts to say it. Sad as it is, if we stop the meds and Dad has a stroke, all his care problems will go away, because it will all be paid for by the NHS. At the moment, he is being assessed for NHS care anyway because he fits the criteria in a lot of instances except that so many people have Alzheimer’s that they tend to apply them more strictly because they can’t afford to find everyone who has Alzheimer’s.It’s all pretty grim.
Morning all. Busy waiting for the snow to arrive and hoping the powers that be shut up shop early. I love snow days, but it's a real pain for Mrs Gaff to get back over the mountain, so if it starts snowing here, it's like an early warning system for her. Weird but true. You can actually stand on the line between weather fronts on the mountain sometimes!Sorry to hear about your situation M.T. . I hope they can resolve it for you soon and that your father gets the care he needs!

So sorry to hear of your situation, M.T., difficult one for you all.A smattering of snow still lies on the ground and the early morning sun is doing its best to change it to water. Its best may not be good enough.

Urgh, woke up at 4.30 this morning with a pounding headache and sore foot, just dozing off as Lucy started fussing for breakfast at 6.30! Weather much better today, still snow around, but not as icy as the forecast despite the car saying the temperature was -2! Traffic was the worst this week though. Blue skies and not much evidence of things melting, but still a pretty view from my office window. Tooth is sore again this morning, will swill with salt water in a bit. Glad the move to California was the right one for you Alicia – will happily visit there too!! Read your latest blog post last night and was puzzled, you mentioned a KU reader who had been reading your book since 28/01, but you wrote it on 25/01? Sorry that things are still really hard MT, what a hard conversation to have, medication was one of the things me and my mum disagreed on with my nan. I'm sure we have a weather front going across our building, often if I look out of the window on the left it is raining, but look out the window on the right and it isn't!! They normally catch up after 5 mins or so. Sorry that you won't be able to go to Bristol tomorrow Kath. I love snow when I don't have to drive in it Jud, the worst bits this week have been my street and our car park.

Yo! Tiniest dusting of snow overnight and the sun's killed it off. Good. I'm too old to enjoy snow!
Did a lot of tossing and turning again last night. Went into the cat room to find there was quite a bit of snow in the catio – there was none forecast, but the sky last night did look like there was snow in it. Chanel went out and played, when I went back in to shut the window, Coco looked really doleful at me, so I told her she was lucky that she doesn’t have to live outside in it – she kind of looked like ‘I know’! Luckily when I went to clear the car, it was so lightweight it was more like polystyrene balls on the car! Got a parcel to pick up from Pets at Home tonight, so getting a few other bits from the retail park at the same time, and some petrol.
Dad had a bit of a turn this morning. The carers pressed the red button and a response team arrived and took him off to hospital. He was surprisingly compliant about going which just shows he must have realised on some level that he wasn’t well. He has a massive chest infection and is being kept in for three nights while he receives intra-Venus antibiotics. I wonder if he’ll be a bit more cheerful when they’re done as a lot of the grumpiness could be down to feeling shit. It’s still time for him to go into a home but the way he behaved in hospital (well) suggests that he may do better there than we fear. It also might make it easier for all of us as he works his way through the system if he is more cheerful. And of course, that’s £85 saved on tonight’s relief care.Cheers

Love the typo, MT: will that make your dad part alien? Hugs to all of you, and so sorry it took so long to find he had an infection.
Sorry that your dad has a massive chest infection, hope he recovers soon and glad you think he will cope better in a home than you thought
