Yes, having said "Open a tin of Gourmet turkey duck for Babooshka, if she doesn't want it, the hedgehog will" she scoffed the lot. She is usually sniffy about that one. Typical cat. Last year she refused the turkey so was only offered a small saucer. Hence all thr second helpings!

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Happy Boxing Day. Day of relaxing and doing just what we fancy. Himself is doing a garden bird count and I'm... reading!
Turkey sandwich and chips for tea.

Kelly Clayton | 1040 comments Yesterday was lovely, but I love Boxing day. Playing with, and putting away, the pressies, a walk on the beach (it is very frosty and chilly here), then some logs on the fire and read/watch telly. Dinner will be a smorgasbord of yesterday's leftovers and some nibbly bits. Enjoy your day, however you decide to spend it. x

Oh my, TV crap? These days it usually is. Low budgets prevail but at least we can hide inside a book. This year everyone bought me tea and coffee. No whisky... sad that... never mind. I had a lovely day out with my sister and family. No cooking! Has to be good!

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Lisa, I did wonder about a bit of fizzy water with the flavoured gins.
I shall have to do some tasting. I didn’t want more gin though last night.
I watched a Mary Berry programme the other day and wanted to find the recipe I looked and looked then found it. It was a 2014 programme!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12606 comments Feel really drained, even though I don't feel like I've achieved much, didn't get many bargains despite going to 4 shops. Downside of not going out for a meal was I got to feed 9 cats, 2 rats and myself!

Not thought of fizzy water with gin. I don't mind rubbish on TV, gives me chance to catch up on what I tape!

Just a thought, it's pretty neutral so it should be OK if you don't fancy neat gin. I haven't tried any of these modern gins because I like my whisky but I mudt admit they are tempting! I hope you had a lovely day.

Soda water has been a traditional accompaniment for whisky so I see no reason why it shouldn't work with gin :-)

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4841 comments Happy boxing day to those who celebrate in a tidy way.

Had one child here for Christmas, and two video conferences with the far-away children, and a quick call to Mexico - now I can safely take a nap.

It is a lovely Christmas here, and the food was amazing. No stinting. Even at the last seating, the staff were cheerful.

Great place - and I can't wait until we're finally settled.

Hope your best wishes were fulfilled with friends and family (and fizzy drinks).

But I wish it were a bit more spread out over the year! I looked like a prune after four hours (literally) chatting in the pool with eldest - and they had only the backup light still on to take a quick shower by. Feast or famine. I'll take what I get, and love it, but the hype gets to you.

Off this lunchtime to see my daughter as she's abandoned University for the holiday.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12606 comments Yay, it's all over - apart from dealing with all the presents! And the stupid amount of food and drink we bought. Woke up stupidly early, too sore to sleep, so got up, fed everyone, let 2 of my neighbours cats in, and tried to go back to sleep, but no joy. Very foggy here. Need to start tackling my Christmas to do list, a friend wants to go for a walk this afternoon (not sure my back and foot are up to that but we'll see), and one of our trustees is supposed to be coming to do the paperwork so the girls are officially mine, but she hasn't said when.

Hope everyone gets to chill a bit now. Glad you enjoyed your first Christmas in the new place Alicia.

Anna Faversham (annafaversham) | 1752 comments I've just enjoyed a lovely 10 minutes reading all these Christmas posts.

I've been knocked out by a terrible hacking cough and have discovered from writing/reading friends that the same nasty, hacking cough is rampant in the US and also in NZ. Little bugs conquer the world so quickly. OK - you writers - there's a plot for you. Stop scoffing!

From lunchtime on Boxing Day we had time to ourselves and slumped on the sofas surrounded by our presents. I went through mine all over again. Today I must, like others have said, do a bit of housework and find space on my bookshelves for the books I've been given!

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments I picked up the hacking cough in Myanmar before we left. Its only now starting to calm down. Thankfully have felt fine in myself despite the cough.

Made it to M&S just as they opened the doors and finished my shopping just as the hoards were descending. Hoping I won't have to set foot in a shop again this holiday.

message 9122: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Marie Gabriel (lisamariegabriel) | 1066 comments I just cleaned the kitchen and thought "It's getting late" collapsed on the couch, "Is it whisky-o-clock yet? No darn it, it's only 2!" That's what housework does to the brain. I hope everyone who is feeling poorly feels much better soon. No shopping yet, I'm on cat watch.

Up too early, too. Irritating, isn't it?

Hope your foot and back let you enjoy at least a short walk.

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments It’s still a no from me with that gin with fizzy water. It tasted like fizzy cough mixture. I actually chucked it down the sink after the first mouthful. I’ll try lemonade, I sometimes think sloe gin tastes like cough mixture though so perhaps it’s just me and that gin who aren’t hitting it off. I too have a fridge full of food. No need to shop for another week from the looks of it.

Sloe gin? It could be the sloe taste maybe? Today's breakfast was cold turkey and chocolate brazils... :)

message 9126: by Kelly (new)

Kelly Clayton | 1040 comments After yesterday's complete relaxation we had our dearest friends and their three children round for sandwiches, nibbly bits and cake. The kids are 7, 4 and 1. We adore them and, thankfully, they love us to bits. Pressies were opened and played with and then the two eldest went outside to play with a ball and a frisbee. We don't have a frisbee. My husband fashioned a few out of plastic picnic plates and the lid off a roses tin!

They left and peace reigned over the kingdom. Phew. Shattered.

Sloe gin is one of the few I like! Like the idea of breakfast Lisa - am sure 2 o'clock would have been whiskey o'clock somewhere in the world! Very inventive of hubby Kelly!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12606 comments Had a bit of a flat day - hope it is just because my friend kind of cancelled, rather than this is how I feel when I don't have plans to leave the house! Trustee also hasn't been in touch, I didn't want to pressure her as she is going away tomorrow, the paperwork can wait till the new year. Have done loads including practically found homes for the presents, rearranged my junk food cupboard, read and then jumped at the chance to go to the co-op with my neighbour, felt a bit better after some human interaction. Ratty neighbour text to say she would be home about 9pm, so have given them their 5pm yoghurt as well, plus washed up. They are adorable, but will be good not to have to go round 3 times a day. Other neighbour cooked soup for tea and gave me a bowl to put in ratty neighbours house in case she hadn't had tea, text her and she was happy about that.

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4841 comments I think I need to get out more. It's a nice place, but I haven't left much, and there hasn't been time to explore yet, and I think I'm getting cabin fever.

Can't even blame snow any more.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12606 comments Hope you find a way to sort out your cabin fever Alicia

message 9131: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Marie Gabriel (lisamariegabriel) | 1066 comments Sorry about flat days and cabin fever. Neither sounds much fun. Lunch was whiskey and pistachio nuts. Fortunately supper was a sensible veggie chilli. Christmas is receding into the distance, jingling all the way...

message 9133: by Anna (new)

Anna Faversham (annafaversham) | 1752 comments Still coughing and sniffing but I'm rarely ill so I suppose it had to happen some time.

As others have said, I'm pleased to have some quieter days ahead, Yesterday I waved goodbye (yet again) to my overseas son and went and did the weekly shop at 10 p.m. Brilliant - hardly anyone else cluttering up the aisles, did it in half the time. And now... hurray, I don't have to do it today!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12606 comments Foot is sore, but feel quite human today. Today's task is to declutter the bookcase in the cat room, I keep dumping stuff on it as it is an old wicker one, the shelves are wide enough for two rows of books! This won't be a quick job as I will keep distracting myself by reading backs of books. Suspect the charity pile won't get much bigger! Then if the weather improves, will go for a walk.

Love the idea of your lunch yesterday Lisa - I have cheese and crackers! Maybe shopping at 10pm is the way to go Anna - did you get everything you needed? I was dismayed when we went to the co-op to discover I could buy easter eggs! Although after reading Jim's recent blog post, seems quite late!

I hope your foot feels better now. I'm having one of those days today. It feels like flu without any other symptoms except aching muscles, tiredness and hot and cold swings. Time to stop the statins for a few days probably. Otherwise all is well. Shared some bacon with the cat and had a lovely cup of coffee. I'll be cooking veggie soup for tea and once my legs stop playing up I will probably make some more grain free soda bread. It comes out like cake! I confess it contains a half cup of porridge oats but porridge is our friend. :) Hope everyone is enjoying their Christmas interlude!

Benjamin Appleby-Dean (benjaminappleby-dean) Morning, all. Having what would be a nice quiet day but I seem to have picked up a seasonal cold.

Karen Lowe | 1338 comments Bit more relaxing today as kids have gone back to their respective homes. We went shopping this morning to The Range - a v tempting bargain of a Christmas tree, £35 off, so just £5...
Tonight we will be having soup. Home-made minestrone. And I am really looking forward to that!

message 9140: by Anna (new)

Anna Faversham (annafaversham) | 1752 comments I'm feeling quite a lot better, 70%, or thereabouts but... sigh, hubby has gone down with the thing.

Yes, Desley, I was surprised to find the shelves were well stocked except there were no mince pies left. I shall savour the remaining one I already have in my cupboard. I usually buy three or four boxes to last through January, but this year I shall probably not put on so much weight!!!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12606 comments Bit sore and tired, but a really productive day. Decluttering the wardrobe wasn't that hard, didn't put anything else on the charity pile, took the books when we went for a walk and discovered they are selling 3 paperbacks for £1, so when we got back, we went back with more stuff and I came back with 3 books - was hard to stop at 3, need to go back tomorrow with more stuff, so may come back with more, although I have 71 paperbacks to read, so might go without my purse! At least the money goes to charity. Offered to cook tea tonight, I'm just putting food in the oven! After that, I'm just lying on the sofa.

Sounds a good bargain Karen, sorry hubby has come down with it Anna. We have normal mince pies, but the special ones I liked didn't seem to be left!! The amount of reduced food in our Sainsbury's local was shocking though.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments I've discovered M&S sour cream and chive dip.

Eating it by the spoonful might be frowned upon?

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments How else would you eat It? It’s the spoon that “dip” refers to.

We had a night last night. Took a call after we’d gone to bed from the community alarm folk and went downstairs to find our 96 year old neighbour had been on the floor for several hours after falling. Unhurt, thank goodness, but why she’d waited five hours (intermittently trying to get up) to call for help... I waited for her daughter to arrive after lifting her and lying her down in her bed. So it was rather a disturbed night, all in all

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12606 comments Hope your neighbour is OK R

Neighbours are important for each other, bad neighbours can destroy a community, good neighbours can build one and make the world a better place

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12606 comments Very true Jim, I'm very lucky with mine

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12606 comments Urgh, woke up a bit sniffly. Very windy out, the bins were emptied today and one has already blown over! Need to defrost the freezer today, not sure whether to bother taking the car to the car wash. Will take some more stuff to the charity shop, but probably leave my purse at home to stop coming home with more books. One of my friends said at that price she'd have come home with a bag full! Funnily enough when I first moved here, they did 5 for £1, I'd go and buy 5, read them, see if my neighbour wanted to read any, keep some and then take the rest back and come back with another 5!

As for neighbours... I'm so very lucky and I daren't move house for fear of not having the same great neighbourhood. Our next-door neighbours were going to move and several of us got together to persuade them not to go - it worked!
