Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Merry Christmas, Mr & Mrs Gaff!
What a lovely Christmas tradition, Desley. Cat cuddling.
I'm making palmiers to have on Christmas morning with prosecco. I like to make the puff pastry the traditional way with the rolling, folding and chilling. And real butter. The filling this time will be streaky bacon and goats cheese.
Merry Christmas to all!

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments I'm going to make cinnamon rolls to have with coffee in the morning.
Might have a dollop of prosecco in my orange juice, too. ;)

Gonna make a dead posh salami, goat cheese and pesto on ciabatta for our lunch now...

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Happy Christmas everyone.
Our little grandson had another croup attack in the early hours. The paramedics were amazing, the prospect of a 35 mile trip to hospital with daddy following in the car wasn’t a good one but they did wonders and he’s feeling much better, still got a high temperature and emergency doctors number on speed dial.
Daughter heard her friend had a Caesarian the night before at 8 pm they asked her to leave at 5 this morning. They needed the bed. Imagine - her husband had just got home and had to come back to collect her and the newborn - my disgust at our health service in this part of the world gets bigger everyday. 35 miles is no joke on our roads. Not even dual carriageways for most of it. Not to mention the fact that after a Caesar they shouldn’t kick you out - sorry, discharge a patient so quickly,

Kelly Clayton | 1040 comments Lynne, what a shocker re your daughter's friend!!

So glad your little grandson is feeling better. xxx

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12606 comments Had a lovely time at the rescue, got to stroke a puppy and cuddle a kitten, although some of the cats they've taken in recently were heartbreaking. One of the semi-ferals they've had for years actually let me stroke her this year, for the first time ever, I do love my Christmas Eve tradition. Unfortunately, our friends flight was running late, so we aren't meeting up with my neighbours family, which is a shame as we have their presents but they'll have to wait till Boxing Day. So we are just going to a local place that I'm not keen on at 7. At least it means I can give the rats their yoghurt at 5, I've already fed 5 of my neighbours cats!

That's shocking about your daughters friend Lynne. Glad your grandson is better, do hope he doesn't have another attack.

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments I could just eat that chocoalte elephant, On a lighter note that naughty dog of mine has just stolen a rasher of bacon off husband’s plate. It was so funny - he was not amused though.

That same hospital told my daughter when she rang to say her waters had gone and she was due for a Caesarian due to complications, that they were full! I shouted to her and said tell them so are you! Full to bursting, They admitted her with reluctance and her baby was born not long afterwards. It’s really bad and not obvious quite how bad it is.

I’ve had it as a cocktail with fizz ( a la kir royale) or it’s good with both ginger ale or ginger beer and a slice of lime. Think most supermarkets should have some - Edinburgh Gin do it and so do Whitley Neill.

I’ve had a different wine with each course today so probably won’t be having any gin :)

You are so accomplished, Kath! I always wanted to learn to make puff pastry from scratch - and never did get around to it, and now the marble slab has been donated before we moved, and I likely never will. Hope it's wonderful.

Optimism keeps breaking out. More than fiction, but even that has been getting a bit of time.

Some mornings I have to drag the optimism out by the scruff of the neck from wherever it's hiding, but it needs doing. The opposite would be to make my husband have to put up with my moods, which I will not do. Fortunately, I get better with practice.

Having a positive mental attitude helps a lot. While nowhere near on the same scale, some of your comments gave me food for thought with me having a lifestyle change

I can only hold one thought in mind, so it's up to me to pick the one which will help the most. It has become a good habit. It takes a beating sometimes.

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments I had some pink gin with berries and added ordinary fevertree tonic. I won’t do that again. It was like cough mixture, I think I’ll try ordinary lemonade with that one.

Wow, that sounds amazing. I did rustle up some 15 year old Glenlivet in the Black Friday sale - I used a refund I had to bring it down to my budget. It was Heaven! Did the cats enjoy their chicken?

Sadly, the 'fosters' weren't keen on the food, treats or chicken. One of their beds doesn't fit and they are ignoring the other one and their new toy! Typical cats

Sounds lovely, maybe just on the rocks with a ittle fizzy water?

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12606 comments Got out of going for a meal with my neighbours family, going doing my Boxing Day tradition of seeing how many reduced things I can get for £5, to give to the rescue to use on tombolas. Do need to do some housework and hoping to spend quality time with the animals

I'm glad its all over Patti. Sounds a very good habit Alicia
