M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Christmas jumper day for us too, Kath I hope the tonsilitis goes fast, huge sympathy. Desley hope the sciatica goes, mine's playing up today to. McMini managed to really hurt his own thumb by kneeling on it last night!? Luckily he's better now. Glad the cake was given freely and fast before the temptation became overwhelming!

Have a corporate do tonight. Slightly alarming as at this one, I'm the Chairman's wife. I don't think I fit the stereotype very well. I will try to channel The Queen for the evening but we are going in a taxi so I expect I'll get pissed and tell dirty jokes.

Oh and Jud, I haven't written a single card either!

Cheers

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12604 comments Had a lovely meal, I wasn't expecting it as last time we ate there, I didn't enjoy it. Did the food shopping too, so that is sorted.
I have also just made quite a large lifestyle change, and told one of our trustees that I am quitting. I'm not enjoying it as much as I used to, I thought changing charities would help but less than 2 years later I am feeling the same, so think after 14.5 years it is time to quit, although typing that makes me sad. It hasn't been an easy decision, and does mean I'm going to have to adopt the foster cats, not sure I really want 3 cats, but hey ho! I am also concerned that despite having hundreds of books to read, and loads of TV/film I want to watch that I will get bored, but as well as not enjoying it, I've not had a great time pain wise this year, so think something has to give and sadly I can't give up the day job!

Enjoy the do MT. Glad the car is sorted Lynne, I certainly think you deserve to drink a whole bottle of something to yourself.

Antibiotics are necessary if you develop a secondary, bacterial, infection. If things get worse, be sure to get medical advice.

Hope you feel better very soon.

You don't know what will happen in the future. Maybe a break from the work will help, you will catch up, and some time may have more time and energy. Don't expect to go back, but also you never know.

I only say that because you obviously have a big heart, and care.

If you can't do it now, others will.

You definitely need to rest more, take care of yourself more, get more leisure time.

just reading your posts it does strike me that you're at some sort of crossroads and something wasn't working for you.
Hopefully this is the right decision.

Bless you, you always seem to be incredibly busy and there is nothing worse than a busy life when you have aches and pains. Sometimes, a break or a change is what you need. Can you not foster these three cats as usual and then, just not take on any more?

Cheers

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Sometimes nature has a way of stepping in and slowing you down. Desley and Kath, are you listening? Although the motto if you want something doing ask a busy woman to do it is very true.
I used to get blinding migraines when I worked full time/did all the housework/gardening / had a a non driving teenager/ two horses /three dogs/two cats / Dad very Ill and a mother in law who needed help. My elastic was severely stretched.😄

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12604 comments Busy day today, got to take my brothers present to the post office, get a gift voucher, some money, then cook some winter bruschetta to take to my friends house party. Also supposed to be going to a 40th this evening, but have said it depends how drunk I get at my friends, am taking parma violet gin and crème brulee liquer. Got a bit of toothache, surely alcohol will help.

Thanks everyone, hopefully this is the right decision, and if I miss it too much, I do have the option of going back, or maybe doing bits for various charities. Well, it would be awkward fostering them if I'm not volunteering unfortunately MT, and they aren't homeable, so this potentially is their only chance of a home environment, even if I cant do it in the traditional way.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments I begged off going out las night as I needed a no-people evening.

So glad we've got a couple days before the slog to the uk that begins on Monday.

I want steak and wine for dinner. Trying to find a place I can get both.

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Greetings, Earthlings!

It sounds as if you know you've made the right decision, Desley.

I've got only one tonsil inflamed now and I'm off the painkillers (except I might have another hot toddy before bed!) Temperature normal this morning too. Onward and upward (but not too high, I get dizzy!)

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments Holy moly it has been quite spectacularly Baltic here today! Saw three snow flakes this morning but that’s all. Wind really getting up now though

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments The wind was really quite frightening here. It really roared. My windows were flexing I could see our lights’ reflections moving a lot. No wonder the double glazing loses it’s vaccuum and has to be changed again. It’s calmer now.
When you come home Patti you won’t need to pay to get in. They are taking the severn bridge toll booths down this weekend. Wales is free at last 😄

message 8916: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments That's great news, Lynne!

Except were getting the bus and won't have to pay anyway. ;)

Anybody wanna collect us from Cardiff and drop us in Barry? I don't have a coat and I'm gonna frikken freeze.

Still, it was half the price hiring a car at Cardiff airport rather than Heathrow. Even adding on the cost of national express.

Oh, I'm not looking forward to this journey.

Three flights, two layovers, two bus rides.

Argh.

message 8917: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21812 comments but the alternative is probably working somewhere like Barry :-)

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12604 comments Had a lovely time at my friends, didn't win the bake off competition though. Also discovered I like pink gin and lemonade, think I only had 5 gins and a crème brulee liquer shot. My friends dad loved the liquer, her mum suggested going home and he said not till he had had a second liquer! There was lots of cake left over, so that is what I am eating today and tomorrow! Neighbour had a crisis though, so when I got home I had to feed all 9 cats, which was a tad interesting. Feel better than I expected, got a bit of housework to do, and looking forward to having a soak in the bath tonight. Wind has calmed down and we have blue skies and sun. Tooth is still sore, even when drinking, so think I'm going to try a salt mouthwash, and if no better, I'll have to try and get in the dentist this week.

That doesn't sound a fun journey at all Patti, and then you have to face our weather! Wow, sounds like you had it really bad Lynne.

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Just looked out of the window and the portaloo in the neighbours fromt garden has blown over. The door is open and it’s tipped over their neighbours wall, so there’s no one inside. That could have been a bit of a crap situation😄 my daughter’s friend has just sent her a photo of turkey sheds blown away and now completely blocking their lane. The wind was incredible.

And this morning was spent mending the fencing in the top field. Maybe I could audition for Emmerdale...

Oh dear, it's the notoriously grumpy bastards on the 201 - or is it the 210, 205? The old Flightlink services, anyway. I used to be responsible for marketing them, among other bits of NX. We got more complaints about the services to Wales than anywhere else. The Welsh company workers were feisty and didn't like being talked down to, not a good combo when you have to deal with the general public day after day.

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments After the Baltic he’ll of yesterday today was a perfectly lovely December day. Spent my last day of the year hawking art to the masses with a modicum of success.

Jay-me (Janet) | 3784 comments Good Morning.

Yesterday wasn't as bad as I had thought it would be after the horrible weather on Saturday, so I managed to transport Mum and Dog to my sister's in record time. The heavy rain started after we arrived.

I've not checked the forecast but so far today looks good. I've been watching the sheep in the field. They all set off following one and seem to just be marching up and down the field.

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Morning.

Our rain was shocking on Saturday but the wind wasn't too bad. Yesterday and today are much better. I brought my stuff to go running but I forgot I had arranged to meet a pal for lunch.

Hope you are less painful today Desley.
Glad you are getting better Kath.

Keep warm everyone!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12604 comments Did get round to putting my Christmas decorations up yesterday, and also gave Lucy her present early. She supervised me while I did it. Tooth is a lot better today, so hopefully don’t need another trip to the dentist. Was raining when I got up, but have had blue sky since. Had our last H & S meeting of the year, was supposed to be 8-10, but didn’t finish till about 10.40, so been a bit behind this morning.

Glad everyone’s weather is much improved and no serious damage from all the wind.

Loretta (lorettalivingstone) | 419 comments I made it to a carol service. Yaaaay. Every year, I want to, and every year, I'm not well enough. And finally, I did it. And boy, do they know how to rock a carol service. With my Pentecostal background, it was right up my street. I'm a tad worried about those mince pies they were serving, though. They were advertised as 'mice' pies. Should have taken one for the cat.

Morning!

Managed to get up at a decent time today, Nathan has a cold now so he was awake for a spell during the night. He must be feeling rotten, he was so upset.

Welcome home Patti!

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Nearly blown away this morning, it took both of us to wrestle the garage doors open. Husband just gone to get his number plates at last and had to turn back because the traffic jam was so bad. The V5 came yesterday day 29 of the 30 days insurance cover. He was sweating it. Still can’t use his car till he gets number plates on. How you’re supposed to get to a garage/Halfords etc to get them legally fixed. Good job he can fix them himself.

message 8946: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Right enough! Maybe you are allowed to drive to get them fitted just like you can drive without a valid MOT if you are on your way to the MOT centre?

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Morning - just about.

Going out for lunch shortly with the village flower arranging group. Glad I'm better in time to go, Three days ago I wouldn't have risked it.
Welcome back Patti and Dave.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12604 comments Hmm, had a spam e-mail about my TV licence yesterday – the header looked odd as it had the year in the title, the header said renew now and save money, the e-mail said the bank had refused my payment and to act now. Quick check showed no issue with TV licence payment so deleted that. Got home last night to find a card saying there was a package at the post office (annoyingly, my neighbour went out about 5 mins before the postman came!!) so need to go to the post office after work to collect it, shame as it meant I had to come in for 8, I could have stayed in bed today. Sciatica is really bad today, and struggling to get my magnet to stay on. Had another rummage through the wardrobe last night trying to find the gift tags, found another present I’ve bought during the year and forgotten about! Lucy managed to knock the Christmas tree over this morning, the wind was blowing things about and she got rather excited trying to chase things through the window and caught it! Must post the pics, she’s being a bit funny with her new bed. We’ve had an e-mail saying we are finishing at 1 on Fri, so been a bit giddy this morning, not helped by the fact we’ve had more goodies brought in! It’s wet and windy out, which doesn’t feel that Christmassy!

Glad you had a nice time in the UK Kelly, hope your cold doesn’t linger. Glad you made it to a carol service Loretta, am sure the cat would have loved a mice pie!! Seems like you've arrived at a good time Patti, looked at the weather forecast early and only one of the next 10 days doesn't have rain! Glad you are able to go for lunch Kath. Hope Nathan is better soon Jud.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Nine hours from landing to getting into the flat.

Nine.

The best bit was the walk from where the bus dropped us to the train station in driving rain. With no coat.

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments My old neighbour worked in Abu Dhabi, said the worst part of his journey was once he landed at Heathrow. Took longer to get to South Wales than the Middle East.
