M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Mwahahahargh! Love it.

Have been doing the oldsters’ Christmas money today, bonus for the carers, wages for the carers, Christmas money to the family. Jeez how can making a few bank transfers be such a massive time suck. Feeling very smug that it’s done now though.

Evening all.

Cheers

MTM

✿Claire✿ (clairelm) | 2602 comments Evening. Just been catching up on the posts, I've been a bit AWOL lately! Hope everyone's doing ok :)

I've finished my 14 weeks in uni (that was a blinking long 14 weeks!!) and passed my first set of second year exams :) Got a few assignments to do and some placements before my final exams in September... *gulp*.

Back to work tomorrow, quite looking forward to getting on the road again and hopefully should have more time to drop in here :)

Jess has settled in very well and is a very cuddly, purry creature, although she's currently under the radiator! She had a good week in a cattery while I went home but she recognised me and was happy to see me, she's not been home that long so I was a bit worried she wouldn't!

message 8856: by Loretta (new)

Loretta (lorettalivingstone) | 419 comments That's it. I've done all I can with sorting out my paperback now. Christmas can officially begin chez nous. What a relief.

I like purry kitties, Claire. I don't like kitties getting into the bedlinen cupboard as mine did yesterday. He has a fascination with it. He sneaked into the bedroom and into the cupboard when I wasn't watching, little blighter.

message 8857: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21812 comments actually looks like a fine day.
As an aside does anybody have any baked beans recipes, it's just that foodbanks all over the country accumulate beans and simple but novel ways of cooking them would be good :-)

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments https://www.savethestudent.org/save-m...

Morning all. No idea what the weather's like as it's still very dark :)

G J (Gaff to my friends) Reilly | 1836 comments Morning all. Still dark outside!! I'm sure health and safety should look into that from the point of view of the students. Perhaps they should only be in school when there's enough light ... :-D

message 8860: by Benjamin (new)

Benjamin Appleby-Dean (benjaminappleby-dean) Morning, all.
Congratulations on your exams, Claire, and glad that Jess is settling.

Ours are just as keen on the airing cupboard, Loretta, but at least one of them also knows how to open the door.

They would do that and still require the teachers to be in full time. Didn't Scotland once bid to not do Daylight savings because it meant the kids oot in the country were commuting in the pitch dark?

Morning!

Kathleen coughed all night again but she wanted Daddy this time so I was relegated to her bed and got a lovely full nights sleep. Well Nathan woke at some point but he just wanted a cuddle and went back to sleep again.

Well done on your exams Claire!

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Morning. Tins of baked beans and tomatoes make a brilliant soup if you whiz them together in a food processor. Add a dash of balsamic vinegar to cut the sweetness.

In other news, I woke with a swollen throat and a headache. Something's got to go. I suspect it will be tonight's book group. :(

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12605 comments Had a really weird moment this morning - my neighbour got me a perpetual calendar for my birthday last year, I don't have the patience for them, so set it for my birthday. Glanced at it this morning when switching the TV off, noticed it was set to 12 December! Very odd. Must remember to look at it again tomorrow. Another nice dry day. Just been given my first Christmas present

Hope you are feeling better soon Kath. Sorry Kitty still has a cough Jud, but glad she wanted her dad instead last night. Glad Jess is settling in Claire and wasn't bothered by the cattery stay.

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Jim, baked beans are great in sausage casserole - veggie or meaty. They add depth. :-)

message 8868: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments No idea about baked beans recipes, Jim.

I've spent the last almost 20 years living where they re like hen's teeth.

Christmas show tonight. Everyone is walking round very growly and with fake smiles pasted on their faces.

Not looking forward to the travelling but can't wait to get a break from this place.

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments Morning all, it's frosty out there. Husband away on train to see eye consultant in Aberdeen, quite glad I'm not driving him. The A90 isn't dual all the way yet and there is often farm traffic on it. And the drivers in Aberdeen make my hair stand on end!

This link has seven bean recipes Jim https://www.savethestudent.org/save-m...

message 8870: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21812 comments thanks for the recipes all, I've forwarded them to our foodbank manager and she loves them and is printing them off and handing them out with the food parcels :-)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Morning. Tonsilitis. Yuk.

G J (Gaff to my friends) Reilly | 1836 comments Morning all. Hope those tonsils get better soon, Kath. Plenty of gin'll see you right.

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments Must be my lucky day - yet another US military type in Florida wanting to be my facebook friend. This time 'Larry David' a former general at United Nation (sic). Did a reverse google image search and the photos are actually Lieutenant General Joseph Jacques Charles "Charlie" Bouchard OC CMM MSC CD, a retired Royal Canadian Air Force general. Catfish sitting in Nigeria or wherever blew it again

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments Tonsilitis is nasty Kath, hope you get better soon. I'd prescribe whisky though!

Jim | 21812 comments LOL

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12605 comments Woke up and both feet were sore and sciatica was twinging, stupidly forgot to put a magnet on. Keep getting a bit of cramp like pain in my feet, am hoping that is a positive sign. Sky looked a bit of a funny red colour this morning. Most of my colleagues are out this afternoon, so hopefully a quiet afternoon. Must wrap and package my brothers presents tonight to take to the post office on Sat. Had a sweet potato burger that I didn’t like last night, put the plate on the floor to find Lucy dragging it off and chomping on it, so took it off her and told her to clean the crumbs off the carpet, and put the plate on the sofa next to me. Then Sooty asked to go in, while I was at my neighbours, she jumped on the sofa, dragged it off the plate and chomped on it again! Then she had the cheek to ask for some of my mince pie, she got told ‘no’! They were new brandy buttercream topped (so no pastry top), think they are my new favourites. I have let two of my colleagues try one, I’m eating the rest! Glad I brought them in, had porridge for lunch, our microwave normally takes twice as long as it should to cook – not today! So I have had about 3 tablespoons of porridge for lunch. Also feel a bit like I’m starting with a cold, a couple of people at work are full of them.

Glad the foodbank manager likes some of the recipes Jim. Fingers crossed for OH’s appointment R, glad you don’t have to drive him! Hope the tonsillitis goes quickly Kath

I don't even feel guilty deleting immediately and marking as spam anyone who doesn't already have a few friends in common. Not just one - every time I've asked someone if the new 'friend' is someone they know, the answer has been 'no.'

These guys finagle themselves in wherever someone isn't paying much attention, and then go after that person's friends.

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Well the wind has dropped a bit thank goodness. It was wild last night but we had damage the night before. Apparently the cowl from the chimney has gone. Father Christmas will be happy. Something went with an almighty clank behind the wood burner so the sweep is coming next week to check there’s no obstruction but until the weather improves we can’t get a new one fitted.
I’m trying out one of those new nasal sprays. Boots own version supposed to help prevent cold catching. If it works it’s had a good test this week as grandson is full of cold. Remains to be seen if I catch it.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Last day of term, thank Gawd.

Stopped at a bakery on the way in and bought a shed load of brownies for the teaching staff and a huge strawberry cream cake for the ancillary staff.

YUM!

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Will the cake survive until it gets to the ancillary staff?

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Morning

I haven't worn my Christmas jumper (I wore it last Friday) but I am wearing my Christmas skirt!

Can't believe how soon Christmas is and I've still so much to do! I haven't written a single Christmas card yet

message 8890: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Morning. You wouldn't believe how long it's taken me to eat a small slice of toast! Made the mistake of using a small torch to look down my throat. It's like two volcanoes in there. No wonder I'm having trouble eating and talking. My two favourite hobbies.

message 8891: by Benjamin (new)

Benjamin Appleby-Dean (benjaminappleby-dean) Morning, everyone. Work christmas party tonight - wondering if I can politely leave early.
Sounds rotten, Kath - hope you have a peaceful day to recover.

message 8892: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Oh poor you Kath, did you get antibiotics?

I had tonsilitis when I was 17 and it floored me. My mum asked me to go tidy my room and by the time I got upstairs I just got into bed, even the palms of my hands were aching. It was horrid. Antibiotics soon had me back on my feet though. I hope you feel better soon.

Just slip away and say nothing to anyone, Benjamin. If you're lucky no one will catch you in the act and by the time they notice you'll be gone!

message 8893: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments No, no antibiotics. According to the NHS website, most tonsillitis is caused by a virus. It's not a tonsillitis virus, it'll be a cold or something which then affects me by attacking my tonsils. Not worth trying an antibiotic.

message 8894: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Yuck. That reminds me I had the viral one at Uni. Forgot about that. It wasn't quite as unpleasant but it wasn't much fun either :o)

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12605 comments Finally spoke to the builder last night, he was hoping to do it yesterday but the van broke down, so is aiming for Monday now, but will text on the day to let me know for definite. I just want it doing so it doesn’t get worse with the weather. Last night we nipped to the co-op for a couple of bits, and bumped into ‘ratty’ neighbour, said hello and then carried on. Just after we got home, she rang me – she was wondering if I was still in the vicinity and if so, could she cadge a lift home??? Was stunned she would have the cheek to ring, but pointed out that even if we hadn’t left, we don’t take the car (it’s about 900 yards away!). Opened the window for the girls this morning, but realised just how cold it was when I opened the front door, so decided to see if Coco would let me shut it before I went to work and she did, so was clearly too cold for her (car did say -1!). Going for a meal after work, then food shopping. Foot is still sore, not helped by waking up at 4am to find a 5.3kg cat sleeping on it! Still feel a bit snuffly but not as bad, so hopefully taking tablets and an early night helped.

Fingers crossed you haven’t had too much damage from the wind Lynne. Sorry that you are struggling so much with your
tonsils Kath. I'm sure you can slip away Benjamin.

Might I suggest jelly and icecream, banana mashed in custard, and brandy straight from the bottle as the ideal foods for you at the moment?

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Wow! Sounds like a kiddy's tea party in overdrive!
I'm enjoying a bit of mashed potato which I always love. Taters and gravy, eh? Can't go wrong. As it's weekend (nearly) I may well try a dash of spiritous liquor too.

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments I’m not sure about my card from OH. It’s lovely and says ‘to the one I love’ . He excused himself saying I couldn’t find one for’ wife’, ermmm......
On the other hand Hallelujah! Many times. After hearing nothing after the initial rejection of the paperwork for importing our car for weeks and the deadline for the temporary insurance drawing closer he rang to see if there was any news. It’s on it’s way. It’s been a right cock up to put it politely. He doesn’t need a certificate of conformity if it’s older than than 10 years old. They insisted he had one, he insisted he didn’t. It’s on their own website. Ok. Point conceded. Can you prove it’s overs 10. Yes the original invoice is in the application papers you’ve just sent back. Just read the papers properly. It’s all in order but he’s not been able to use his car for 5 weeks. It’s insured, MOT’d, headlight changed, etc. What a performance.
As I have a day off ‘work’ I’ve decided to have my Christmas party, just me, I’m going to get drunk - after the last few weeks I deserve it. 😄
