Jemima Pett | 48 comments Oh Christmas cards! Well done, Lynne, for getting them done. I've got the overseas ones done (but not posted). The rest are waiting on the table for me... like a porridge of doom.

Today I tackle the Christmas tree.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments I can't stand the smell of jasmine. One of the ancillary staff here wears them in hair every day. I try to avoid getting near her.

We've had a lovely quiet day of doing nothing. Well, except for laundry and some cooking.
I was going to make us a couple of steaks but then the neighbour/colleague/friend from across the hall brought us a rotisserie chicken. Was very India of him.
Not a bad chicken. Not as good as the chicken we used to get in Baku, but not bad.
Did I mention I finally got an oven? It's not brilliant but it was only 50 bucks. Roasted spuds in it tonight and they seemed to take forever. Not sure how it's gonna be for baking.

Not many people have. I wrote about the menopause so it will be tumbleweed this week! Mwahahahaaaaargh!

Cheers

Jim | 21812 comments I suspect the problem with menopause is that it directly impacts 50% of the population.
Being male I obviously have people dear to me who have gone through it but what they went through isn't mine to share

If you really wanted to be one with them, Jim, you could wrap yourself round a couple of hot water bottles while the heating is on and add a well-quilted coat, a thermal vest and a couple of jumpers. Just about twenty times a day. No biggie. It's good to share. Bwahahahaha.

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments I asked my mum how it was for her when I started, and she said she just got itchy. I remember, she had massive red itchy blotches all over

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12604 comments Well, as suspected, was tired after spending hours with my neighbour! Most of her conversations end up feeling like interrogations. Got there early to go to the food festival that wasn't there, assume they cried off due to the weather, as it was outdoors. Went to a shop I needed then had a wander round the market, but I wasn't really needed at the fair, so I got to chat, eat and spend money! I mustn't be feeling well, I bought some Christmas earrings from the first shop, and put them in for our fair, and bought 2 Christmas decorations while I was there - will post pics from my phone, not very traditional, but think the first decorations I've ever bought! Did a bit of washing up then helped with clearing up, wore my plantar ? socks and while my feet were sore there, they aren't bad now, they were throbbing this morning. Brought some cake - well, a flan - home, Lucy drew blood cos I wasn't eating it quick enough! Not got the total figure yet, but it's looking like over £1k. The people who adopted the boys had popped down, they are settling in really well, and were sleeping on the bed with them last night

I will still read it MT - I even read the writing one the other week to the cats. Jim has posted a few this past couple of days though, so think I have 6 now to read to them! Good luck baking in your oven Patti! Hope the dog behaved at the groomer Janet, I'd rather they bite the hairdryer than me - Lucy bites when being brushed, it's pot luck whether it is me or the brush she catches though. I prefer to give money to charity than buy cards, makes things slightly easier!

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments To be honest while it may be about the menopause I thought I'd made it quite funny. It made me laugh anyway so it's probably not funny. At all!

Chewie used to growl before he got to the biting stage. Harrison format need brushing much. He's quite fastidious.

Cheers all

I ma have to go up there and bash them.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12604 comments No lie in again, but apart from a slight headache from yesterday, I feel OK. Just got washing up and to clean the cat room, going for a belated birthday lunch with a friend today, am going to upset her as she asked for no Christmas presents, but unfortunately I'm too organised! I have to give her one early, it's an advent calendar that is already late. We have blue sky today, hope it lasts!

Hope the neighbours stopped annoying you Patti!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12604 comments Had a lovely meal and catch up with my friend. Currently debating which Peter James books I want, he has 10 on offer for 99p each, I already own one but choosing between the other 9 is hard.

You reminded me,
I don't know whether you've read this Tallis story to your cats? It might have been from before you provided them with such high quality literary entertainment :-)

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12604 comments No, I'll have to add that to the list, thanks. I would buy your latest book but you do so many blog posts I can barely keep up!

That's me told!
I write blogs to promote the books only to discover nobody reads the books because they're having so much fun reading the blogs :-)
It strikes me I've screwed up on my business model here ;-)

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Good morning, it’s dry today. .just seen a snow warning though 😀
Love the mental picture of Kath and her barrow. Were you wearing wellies?
Must seriously think about Christmas presents, little lad is catered for but nobody else yet. The amount of presents I see children getting, the mountain of wrapped parcels with them ripping in is turning me the opposite way. Our little grandson had so much on his birthday recently and it’s just overwhelming. I’m not a grinch, I just see that such excess is wrong, they don’t know what to play with or value.

I do hope there is no snow. I have to transport mother plus dog to meet Eleanora for the first time.
Mum starts her Christmas on Friday when they have the party at the daycare. Then celebrating Christmas/birthday on Saturday with my brother and his family. Then Sunday is her Birthday celebrations with my sister. Monday Eleanora and niece.........

I'm looking forward to a long break over Christmas so I need to sort plenty of books to read. I've read a few that I wouldn't have chosen but that fit my challenge. One was Jasper Fforde. OK. But I don't think I will be racing to read more.

I'll be in the same country as Patti for a while. So she better bring good weather.

Hope everyone is well.

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Morning

I'm with you Lynne, kids get far too much. Gareth and I try to be restrained but it is difficult because we pick things up as we see them so we've ended up with loads. I may try and get him to keep some of it for birthdays next year. Need to hunt it all out and start wrapping.

message 8828: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Morning! I've just made 50 small yellow icing stars to top individual Christmas cakes (made in bun tins) for the village fish and chip lunch on Wednesday. We're icing them this afternoon. I didn't get involved in making them but I bought the clear cellophane bags they'll be presented in.

G J (Gaff to my friends) Reilly | 1836 comments Oops, well and truly missed morning. So, afternoon all. The rain has abated and the day is going well so far. Fingers crossed for the rest of it.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12604 comments Blue skies today, so hoping the builder does turn up to do the guttering! Have worn my Christmas earrings and put my decorations on my computer monitor.

You better bring some nice weather with you Patti! I completely agree Lynne, because they get so many at both Christmas and birthday, so much gets untouched. I give my nephews money for both, to be put in their savings account – luckily they are young enough not to realise this yet, but am sure when they are older they will appreciate it. Sounds rather full on Janet, hope you do get to relax and read over Christmas

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments Afternoon all, first things first, delete the drop'n'runner!

Glorious day here today, have been for a walk to the post office to send off some orders and had to stand in the festive queue. Spending a quiet afternoon doing some painting which I haven't had time to do for a few days

I'm sure you've mentioned it before, but what's your challenge?

message 8833: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4839 comments Blue skies here - but hoping for rain. Supposedly there was a small bit overnight, but things didn't even look wet.

Husband was trusting the weather report yesterday, which called for rain this morning - but I told him he'd probably be able to go out with his walking group, as forecasters are more often wrong than right. They walked.

I'm a Californian again - hoping for rain, but also hoping it doesn't set off mudslides in places that have been dry too long (some already reported from Los Angeles). In New Jersey, rain was a regular annoyance.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Good morning!

We've not had rain here in yonks. Everything is very dusty and grotty.
Hot, too. Just how I like it.

message 8835: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21812 comments I remember Barrow being like that, dusty and grotty, lasted for a couple of days until the next rain washed it clean :-)

G J (Gaff to my friends) Reilly | 1836 comments Morning all. Okay, so it's still dark, but at least it's not raining. Dusty and grotty here, too. It is a school after all. :-D

we've got plenty of mire, if I knew you wanted some I'd have sent it already :-)

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments Well I think I’ve been taking lessons from Mary cos I turned up to do some volunteering setting up an exhibition at the RSA on the Mound this morning only to discover that the hanging is in fact next week. Doh. So am on the train back home in a flounce. They sent out their reminder email far too soon in my opinion!

message 8842: by Will (new)

Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments To be clear Rosemary, it is pictures that are to be hung on the Mound, isn't it?

I mean, you never know with the Scots.

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments Lol Will! Yes, the hangings were never on the Mound anyway. Usually the Grassmarket. Stocks outside St Giles where the old Tolbooth used to be :)

message 8844: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Morning.

Glad to see you aren't getting into any immoral hobbies there Rosemary, or should that be illegal. I guess the immorality of any legal hobbies you have could be argued.

Kathleen coughed all night again, I'm wrecked. She must be wrecked too.

message 8845: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Haha! I have plenty of mire, Jim. I should wait till I have the laptop on to post here but some days it doesn't get opened until quite late. Titchy writing is no use to me these days!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12604 comments Got my first Christmas card last night, now need to figure out where to put it! Unsurprisingly, the builder hasn’t been! He sent someone to fix the hole in my neighbours house, but only one person, so mine couldn’t be done and yet again, I’m waiting to find out when! ‘Ratty’ neighbour popped round last night, she wants to go away for Christmas, so I’m rat sitting for three days, one is still on antibiotics, so that will be fun. Got Lucy’s last acupuncture of the year after work, foot is already sore, so carrying her won’t help! Hoping I won’t have to chase her round this time. Got an asda order coming after that too. At least we have cake today

Hope you get enough rain to help, but not enough to cause damage Alicia.

message 8849: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21812 comments The official sentence was "you will be taken hence to the prison in which you were last confined and from there to a place of execution where you will be hanged by the neck until you are dead and thereafter your body buried within the precincts of the prison and may the Lord have mercy upon your soul"

men are hanged, paintings are hung
