Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Just been looking at the carnage In France. The damage in Paris and other cities is unbelievable. The motorway headquarters at Narbonne has been set on fire so they can’t operate the main motorway up from Spain. It’s like Hell in parts. I did say they were getting the pitchforks out. Glad I’m in wet Wales. Sometimes the rain isn’t the worst thing to worry about,

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments There’s dozens of cars burned out in Paris, looting and damage. It’s bad. That’s what governments get when they treat their citizens with contempt. I hope Mrs May is reading the real news not what they want you to see.
It was such a simple idea, all motorists are required in France to carry a yellow high viz vest. They scoffed at the idea thinking they’d just take number plates and issue fines if cars with a vest on the dashboard caused obstructions. They didn’t calculate that the peasants didn’t have any intention of getting their cars impounded. They simply started by crossing roads, slowly on foot at roundabouts and strategic junctions. The rest followed on. There’s talk and pictures of black ops infiltrators deliberately causing damage to discredit the movement of angry but basically peaceful protest. But we couldn’t believe that could happen could we?

Nope. Bragged about him at dinner. He had an IV line, but didn't need anything put into the line, so he really had no bad reactions or wooziness to recover from. And the place is literally across the street (another nice feature of this place, and the city of Davis).

I 'eyed askance' at him, though. And would have felt horrible if he hadn't made it.

The last kicker? The ophthalmologist saw him on a Saturday morning for the followup visit, and called here this morning (on Sunday!) to make sure he was all right. We have never had a doctor do that before.

Too much fake - and unevaluated - 'news' being transmitted instantly. And the liars don't have to check their facts, so they get out front and we never catch them.

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments There’s is a lot of fake stuff. If you really follow something you can often spot an anomaly. I just saw a video of the French president receiving his breakfast egg, it was a good shot but it wasn’t current as his closest bodyguard on the clip is in disgrace and suspended for dressing up as a policeman and thumping a member of the public.
Sister was in quite a bit of pain she had anaesthetic drops not an injection and she was told afterwards she should have pressed her buzzer and had more drops. . She has an appointment for a months time for her follow up check. I wish she’d have had your husband’s treatment.

G J (Gaff to my friends) Reilly | 1836 comments Morning all. Pretty my like the rest of the country in the valley this morning. Time to dig the 20,000 lumen lamp out again so I can at least trick my brain into thinking there's sunlight! :-D

Benjamin Appleby-Dean (benjaminappleby-dean) Morning, all. Enjoying waking up for a day where it actually isn't raining for once.

message 8711: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Good morning

Kitty was coughing all day yesterday, literally, from 3am in the morning. So she is off school today, she got a decent sleep though after falling asleep on the sofa at 5:30pm. I've abandoned her to the care of my Dad while I go on to work. She doesn't seem to mind.

Our tree went up on Saturday after seeing Santa. Kathleen was ecstatic at seeing the main man and Nathan was devastated when we went to leave, he wanted to stay and watch the model train of Thomas and Duck going round and round and round, he loved the trains. It was a great afternoon and well worth the money (only £10 each!).

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12604 comments Well, it didn’t stop raining till 12, which isn’t good as I noticed a damp patch in the cat room when cleaning yesterday morning, I’ve never had that before, so it must be related to the catio, and it did seem worse this morning. Luckily the builder is coming to look at it this afternoon (my neighbour also had an issue yesterday, so he’s looking at them both!). At least the sky is a light grey, so while we haven’t had daylight, it doesn’t seem quite as gloomy. Had a nice Sunday, didn’t get dressed, got through the housework, but also watched a decent amount of TV and finished 2 books. Forgot to say, while the car passed the MOT, it has had an intermittent noise for a while, which I was waiting for it to get more regular before taking it to the garage, apparently there is a bit of grit on one of the back brake pads, so while OK for now, it does need to go back in the near future.

Glad the kids enjoyed it Jud, shame Kitty was poorly yesterday, glad your dad could look after her. Wow, no wonder you are glad to be in wet Wales Lynne! Glad the ophthalmologist has shown such great aftercare Alicia.

Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments I'm impressed at Rosemary being invited to turn on Christmas Lights.

The only lights I've ever been asked to switch on were the ones on our own tree. And then it was less of a request than an instruction

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments It was good fun and there was a huge crowd - I got to do the countdown and everything! Joint duty with the Lifeboat Queen and of course the big red button that we had to press wasn't actually attached to anything - hence the countdown so the real switch thrower knew when to do it :)

We've actually got a lovely sunny day today and clear blue skies. It'll be cold tonight

I to lack the combination of fame, charisma and recognition as a leading light within my field, so like Will, I'm merely instructed to turn lights on (or off) rather than invited to the grand opening to do it
Glad you had fun :-)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Morning. After a full day on my increasingly arthritic feet making the holly wreaths for the village yesterday I crashed out last night. Today it's a dash up to see the lad and co. after his unexpected op last week. I like being busy but sometimes it gets ridiculous.

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Morning

Tuesdays are the worst days of the week. I have to work through lunch as well just so I can get home in time to make tea and then head out to GB for 6.

Will have to go for a coffee soon.

message 8722: by Loretta (new)

Loretta (lorettalivingstone) | 419 comments At last I can drop in for a coffee with you lot again. I've been up to my ears in editing all year and I ended up inadvertently looking after 2 cats and 3 newborn kittens for 7 weeks as well as my own boy. There's a couple of very good reasons why I only have one cat - I'm allergic to them, and as I have ME, I can really only cope with one pet. It took me weeks to recover.
Anyway, I'm back for a bit now having missed about a year's worth of goss.
Expect typos galore - my new phone has some very strange ideas about what it thinks I meant to say.

message 8723: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments My new phone likes to take the word I'm typing and split it up into 2 non-words. Such a pain in the bum.

Good to hear you have recovered again! 5 cats is a lot for 1 person even without ME.

Kath, you need to take time to rest those poor wee feet of yours.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12604 comments Rather than a Christmas Party, we have been invited to a New Year Social Event at the end of Jan (just after payday!). Positive news from the builder, the guttering needs replacement and he thinks it is almost certainly the cause of the patches in the house, he is hopeful he can get out next week to replace it. Cold and foggy here, was surprised when I left the house, it didn’t look foggy when I’d let Lucy out, or opened the window for the girls, but yet was bad when I got in the car, and is still foggy now. Got a meeting tonight to discuss the Christmas Fair, make sure everyone is happy, so hoping this improves.

Sorry that your feet are objecting to your busy lifestyle Kath! Nice to see you back Loretta - looking after mum and kittens is exhausting enough without ME or being allergic! Good on you for helping though. Good news Patti.

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Just trying to kill time until I can go home. Down to the last 5 minutes, I've had nothing to do and have been trying to decide what I want from the menu for my Christmas Dinner but that is practically impossible because it all sounds yummy and how am I supposed to know what I'll be in the mood for on the night. The only thing that is reasonably certain is the lemon tart for dessert. Gotta love a lemon tart.

Only 3 minutes left now, I think I can start getting my things together and putting my trainers on without anyone judging me for skipping out early. I hate not having enough work to do, I hope tomorrow will be busier.

message 8726: by Loretta (new)

Loretta (lorettalivingstone) | 419 comments Mmm, lemon tart sounds good. Our company do promised me a gluten free/dairy free cheesecake and a mince pie - neither of which was forthcoming when we got there. Oh well, the fruit salad was nice. And I have a gf/df lemon tart in the freezer which I'm making last a bit longer. Have a good donner, Jud, and a good New Year Party, Delsey.

You know what? It's really nice to stop for a breather and catch up with folks here.

message 8727: by Loretta (new)

Loretta (lorettalivingstone) | 419 comments Talking of desserts, Buster Cat finds my leavings utterly disappointing. Iain has cream on his and when Buster gets the chance, he swoops on the leftovers. He just sniffs disdainfully at my dish.

G J (Gaff to my friends) Reilly | 1836 comments Morning all. Mist. That's what's in the valley today. I can't say much else. It's misty. And damp.

Whole day with year 8 today, so I shall probably need a cold compress for my forehead and a gin when I get home later. 'Tis the season for kids to be nutty after all. Looking forward to a weekend of reading, editing and writing. Wish I could do that all week!

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Morning

Got a meeting at 10, can't decide if I want a coffee enough to go out in the rain for one.

They'd need to get proper UK chocolate though Patti. That could work out quite expensive :o)

I have until Monday to put in my order for the Christmas dinner so I can think on it for a while.

How are the feet today Kath?

Hope you got a good rest last night Desley

message 8735: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments It's raining here too and I'm supposed to be meeting a group for a run at 1:15. Hopefully it will have stopped by then.

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments That's your rain arrived here now, which is a shame as it was another white frost sparkling in the sun earlier.
I'm waiting for a few dry days in a row so that I can squeeze myself out the roof hatch (it's a very small hatch!) and apply new flashband to the skylight. The bloody crows have pecked it all away again. Rain is currently dripping through on to the lower level glazing in an annoying thud thud thud thud kind of way...

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12604 comments Well, was still foggy when I left work last night, but not too bad, so the drive to the meeting was fine. You could tell it was December, there were some lovely decorated houses/gardens, although the one with a 4 foot inflatable snowman on the porch seemed a bit OTT! Only 6 of us at the meeting, but it still lasted an hour and a quarter! We did have a laugh though. We have enough help in the morning, so I’m doing 12-4, but I’ll be a floater, we have some people going at 1 and some at 2, so I might be more needed then – am hoping not needed when I first get there, so I can walk round and nosey! Taking my ‘ratty’ neighbour with me, as we have some vegan stuff, so might rope her into helping pack up! Has been raining since I got up, shame as the damp patch was lovely and dry yesterday! Not sure we will get daylight today. Hoping to go to the chemist after work, and got a few bits of housework to do.

Glad your feet are better Kath. Good luck sorting the skylight out R! Hope you get a run in Jud

message 8738: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments I did get a run in! Only 3.6k though cause I wasted time hanging around waiting for someone else who had gone on ahead of me! Feels good to have gone out and not sat on my bum eating chocolate brownie, although I will mostly likely still eat the brownie but I've earned it this way.

Is your neighbour ratty as well as being owner to a rat? Are they a ratty 'ratty' neighbour?

Vegan. That reminds me I need to get a secret santa present for a friend and it has to be posted so I need to get it soon.

message 8739: by Loretta (new)

Loretta (lorettalivingstone) | 419 comments Rain here, too. Typical December weather. But although I love a crisp, frosty day, the rain helps the humidity levels which is good for my catarrh so it's all good.

Amazed you managed all that with ME; I barely have enough to breathe through the day sometimes. I'm doing PT for the spine - and then getting very little else done, including writing.

Tbh, Alicia, it nearly finished me. I've told them there's no way I'm ever looking after them for longer than two weeks again. It put me two months behind, I missed all my deadlines, and still haven't managed to finish the paperback.

Do you have ME? How long have you had it for? I've had it over thirty years but it did improve once I had my badly diseased gallbladder out. I'm still far from being well, but I couldn't have written novels ten years ago. The best thing is, as my friends are saying age is slowing them down, I'm feeling better than I did thirty years ago. That gives me a certain amount of satisfaction. I can't get out much atm, but hopefully, in a few weeks, I'll be getting out for my weekend walk again.
