Jay-me (Janet) | 3784 comments It appears to be Misty here. Here being County Durham where I am again escaping for a weekend. Thank goodness I am only in this Travelodge one night as there were a group of people who arrived late and were either in the corridor or in several rooms with the doors open talking in loud voices and shrieking. Went on from 4am to almost 5.30

All quiet now. I’ll just be noisy when I leave my room and hope it wakes them.

Hope everyone is well

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12604 comments Well, thought I was feeling better when I woke up feeling hungry, but tummy not happy with the food I ate. Home visit yesterday was good, she was such a fascinating lady I was there for 2 hours! She's the kind of person I could easily pop and see anytime I was in the area, it'd be like seeing your favourite grandma. Supposed to be going to the remembrance parade with my neighbour, then doing housework, will see what happens. Loads of fireworks going off last night, hope that's the last of them.

Sorry that your hours are so long and it is affecting your writing Kelly. Hope the weather improves for you. Sorry you had noisy people in your Travelodge Janet

You try doing the talk in the service after it :-(

Hardest job I do all year
But the arch looks great

message 8406: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments I said to Dave, the lad who played it, I couldn't do that. I couldn't get through it. He said once you start you become part of it. You're not thinking of it the way the listeners are.

I couldn't do it. Arch looks lovely Kath

Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments The arch is fantastic, Kath.

And I'm with you. 2 years ago I had to read a piece of a friend's poetry at his funeral and really struggled to get through it

Fine, but did you have to take the last clean underwear?

message 8415: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Morning! Sunny again. More teddy stuffing today and I may well make some card boxes for Christmas gifts. I bought a pad of 24 sheets of printed card, all in shades of blue - two each of twelve designs. Keeps me off the streets!

message 8416: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Morning

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments I’m going to my grandsons birthday surprise party when he comes out of school. I finished his dinosaur birthday cake and just hope I don’t drop it. I have form for dropping cakes.
I made a beautiful Christmas cake when I was at home and left it in the front room (never used in the week) to set, somehow my dad managed to lean on it and crushed the elaborate icing. In a bit of a huff I redid it all and took it upstairs to the safety of my bedroom. We were all going to my sisters for Christmas so my brother in law came to collect us. I walked downstairs carefully carrying my masterpiece and tripped. My brother in law caught me by my elbows and saved me from face planting in the cake. But most of it was squashed on my coat. Memories. My sister reminded me.

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments Morning all! Sunny now but I hung out my washing earlier and it immediately poured with rain. So it had an extra rinse.

I've not (yet) dropped a cake Lynne but I've handed over a birthday cake in a cake tin at a party only for someone to turn the tin the other way up... No-one owned up to that but they all got their cake in a bowl with a spoon

Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments Spent hours yesterday splashing preservative on fences that hadn't seen any for at least 4 years. I was planning on finishing the job today but it's too wet

This happens to me all the time. I put the cake on the lid so it is easier to get a slice of cake and then someone ALWAYS flips it over. I need to get a sticker on the bottom that says DO NO TUN ME OVER.

Think I'm going to get a coffee this afternoon. Before or after lunch? And do I go for a run? I should but I think I won't.

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments Run to the coffee shop?

Yeah I put the cake on the lid too, because it's easier to slice!

message 8422: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) wrote: "Run to the coffee shop?"

I walked briskly, it was the best I could do in my heels

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12604 comments Well, my neighbour cancelled going to the remembrance parade at 10.15, so am afraid I went back to bed for an hour, did hear the band though. We went shopping in the afternoon, we hadn’t realised the new Lidl had opened, so popped in, it’s lovely and spacious and has a much bigger range. Couldn’t face tea again though, but had a nice soak in the bath. Still feel weak and lightheaded, but not sure how much of that is having barely ate for days, quite tired too. We are supposed to be moving to the upstairs wing tomorrow, not moved in 8 years, so a lot of stuff to sort through – I say supposed, as there are currently boxes where we are going, so until they are moved, we can’t. Feet are really sore too. Just made my boss a cup of tea and used a plastic spoon – while squeezing the tea bag the spoon broke and sent nearly the full cup of tea flying! Luckily only a bit got on me

Bad night Jud?

message 8424: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Not even. I was in bed by 11:30 and slept through till my alarm went off at 6. Probably should have gone to bed earlier but I was having too much fun sewing.

Have you got something like lucozade that you could drink Desley? That might help with the dizziness, or any kind of juice would maybe help?

Was Rosemary tasty, GL? She's awfully popular to be sold as a crisp flavour.

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments She tasted very much of camembert, Jud. Quite nice, but maybe a bit too much.

I wonder what goes through the mind of a person who, handed a cake in what they consider the upside down position, then flips it to the 'correct' position. Do they think magically the cake will be okay with this maneuver? And that someone before them upended it as well?

Boggles the mind.

G J (Gaff to my friends) Reilly | 1836 comments Morning all. Fab night in the company of Gary Numan at St. David's Hall in Cardiff last night. I might suffer for it today, but it was worth it!

Sad news about Stan Lee, yesterday, too.

Morning

Didn't sleep well last night, found out one of my friend's sister's has been diagnosed with a brain tumour. They took a biopsy last night so waiting to hear what they can do.

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments I need cheering up, maybe I should go to the grumpy thread. I'm hearing too much news about people dying. Why are people so horrible to other people?

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments That sounds lovely, Will. I didn't realise there was a Louth in England as well. Learn something new every day.

message 8441: by M.T. (new)

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments I think Louth is in the meaning of liff ... let me just see ... yep:

Louth (N) The sort of man who wears loud check jackets, has a personalised tankard behind the bar and always gets served before you do.

My favourite is still ‘didcot’ which is the little pieces of card the ticket collector used to punch out of your ticket on trains ...

Cheers

MTM

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments You know that and yet you can't leave the house without remembering your keys.

Yer a geg Mary ;o)

message 8443: by Will (new)

Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments I've actually no memory of every going to Louth, although I spent a lot of (freezing cold) childhood holidays at Mablethorpe a few miles away where an elderly Great Aunt ruled a seaside boarding house with an iron fist.

Jud, I didn't know there was another Louth. Anywhere.

As a resident of said town, I can confirm it lives up/down to its name.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12604 comments Well, felt better after my lunch, although started feeling a bit ropey about 8.30, so just went to bed early, fortunately I'm feeling much better today as we decided that even though where we were moving wasn't ready, we were going to do it anyway, so had to move loads of stuff this morning, then found out the space wasn't quite as big as we thought! At least I'd done over 4k steps by 11, just didn't quite have the right footwear for it, and hadn't thought of eating first! We are making the most of the space we've been put in, I've managed to sneak myself back in a corner near a radiator though, just have to be near the fire exit too. I'm trying to be positive about it by thinking of all the extra steps I’ll get by walking upstairs, and using it as a chance to get rid of some of my clutter and start fresh with a clean desk.

Sorry, will have to reply properly to everyone tomorrow. Sorry that you aren't enjoying life at the moment Jud, hope your friends sisters tumour isn't as bad as feared.

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Jud wrote: "It's a village and a county in Ireland"

I grew up in Drogheda, which is in Co. Louth. Its the smallest county in Ireland.

Sending gentle virtual hugs. I don't know what's missing in people that they have to boost themselves up by pushing other people down.
