I knew there was a reason your collie is always with you.

Unlike my retriever, Magic Molly, who vanished while I was checking fences in one of the fields. Took me ages to locate her. Grrrrr.

message 8003: by L.A. (new)

L.A. Kent | 3925 comments Morning alls. Lovely day here again. Why is it that couriers do not read the carefully crafted delivery instructions on the boxes they are delivering? Answer - because they are in the back of the van and inaccessible before they stop in the wrong place that is impossible to drive out of without having to disturb neighbours to get them to move cars!! GGRRR!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12603 comments Well, TalkTalk managed to have my router sent to my house rather than work as I’d asked, luckily my neighbour heard the door and took it in, but DHL didn’t tell me till 9.38pm that it had been delivered, by which point I’d used it for hours! Managed to get TV, phone and tablet connected, struggling with Sonos and Echo’s. Looks a lovely day out, wishing I’d put some washing out! We have some lovely autumnal reds and oranges on the trees/bushes. Got a busy evening, couldn’t go to work early because I needed to help neighbour with her rat, so need to put some washing on when I get in, put cat bowls in to soak, sit with the girls, have some tea, got a committee meeting then need to help neighbour with eye drops when I get home. Think I’ll be crawling into bed!

Glad your move went well LA, and that you are enjoying the new place.

Typos? are more fun than the real thing.

Kelly Clayton | 1040 comments Phew - that's some agenda, Desley. Hope you weren't too tired. Up early to work at the laptop, having set myself a new project.

Mother-In-Law is getting a little better, each day sees an improvement. We have asked them to move in with us. Our house lends itself to being split into two but we'd need a fair bit of building work first.

Righty-ho, off to the day-job.

message 8010: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21812 comments We had parents from both sides of the family living with us at various times (never both lots together) and it worked for us Kelly. Hope it works for you. When it does work, it can be brilliant

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Morning

I heard this morning that we are supposed to have a storm this weekend. And here I was considering another 10k on Saturday, not registering for that now!

Glad mil is doing better Kelly

Indeed, but it is helping me catch up with the outdoor tasks

(Which is why I'm not here very much)

message 8014: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21812 comments shirtsleeve weather here!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12603 comments Had another long committee meeting! Woke up at 6.38 again but felt too drained to get up. So had an hour to peg two wash loads out, feed everyone, wash and dry hair and help neighbour with her rat – will be glad when that is done, he’s at the vet on Fri, so hopefully will get the OK to stop. Did realise at 11.45 that I forgot to put any makeup on though! Got a bit of housework to do tonight, and help with the rat. Still got to try and get all the devices connected to new router too. Definitely going to get a cleaner, I’ll still have to do all the cat stuff but at least most of it will be done. Very few people in the office today, boss is in, but in meetings most of the day.

Luckily neighbour got rid of the idiot boyfriend, putting drops in a rat's eye is very interesting, and a lot harder than a cat! Luckily his antibiotics are hidden in yoghurt so we don't have to syringe him too. Glad M-I-L is getting better, hope they agree to move in with you Kelly. Lovely sunny day here, supposed to rain for the next 7 days, so glad I managed to get 2 washloads done yesterday, practically done all the holiday washing now.

message 8016: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments I love that you completely ignored/missed Will's comment from yesterday Desley.

And it makes much more sense that it is the neighbour's rat you need to get eye drops in to. I thought you had to put eye drops in the neighbour's eye whilst helping another neighbour who had a wild rat infestation.

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments Well I read Desley's post and found myself wondering about the wisdom of putting makeup on a rat :)

Absolute cracker of a day here today. Have been out for a very long walk with the camera, although it was so nice I forgot to take too many photos - just enjoying the moment!

Elizabeth White | 1761 comments Evening all.

Yep, we had our Indian Summer today too - the sun has just gone down behind the hills, leaving a blue sky dotted with sweet little pink clouds.

Himself managed the hospital stairs with a crutch this afternoon and the occ. therapists came for a home visit. The result is several aids will be delivered on Friday, with himself to follow shortly after!

Thanks for the good wishes folks.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12603 comments Deliberately ignored Jud! Don't think wild rats would last long with the cats! Another neighbour had an engineer out today due to internet issues, wonder what the odds are of 3 neighbours having issues at the same time and all being different faults? Advantage was my washing was brought in and folded for me.

Glad he is improving and will be home soon Elizabeth

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Had a thunderstorm here last night, we got off lightly as the next department had people swept away in cars with two drowned. When it rains here it really goes for it.
Monday night there was a long tv campaign about keeping communities viable with an exciting programme of new coaches serving villages without trains. How the butearocracy were serving the needs of people and public transport was the way forward etc. Wonderful. Next up on the news the announcement of the strike for Tuesday. All trains buses trams on stop and public car parks would be free for the strike. The newscaster couldn’t keep a straight face.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12603 comments Went to try and watch my firestick last night, which had connected to the new internet no issues before remembering that the Echo’s still aren’t connected. Couldn’t be bothered to go and get the tablet instead. Overcast and threatening rain here. Covering our switchboard for a bit this afternoon so admin can have some training. Am hoping for a quiet evening to try and catch up a bit, although had a nice moment last night when the neighbour with the rat asked if I remember a kitten I homed 4 years ago named Bobby, I remembered the cat, but not the name of the family who adopted him!! He was a real hissy spitty kitten, one of the few who has drawn a lot of blood, and turned into a right sweetheart. Turns out she works with the daughter, who sent her a picture to show me, love things like that.

Wow, glad you are OK Lynne. Sorry you had travel issues Benjamin

Shocking. I'm surprised he didn't need a team and a cherry picker in order to tell you that.

Lindsay (kiwi365) | 3672 comments Morning all,

I echo that statement Patti. It has been a very busy week and i have been given more responsibility at work. I now manage a manager so that is going to be fun.

TGIF!!!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12603 comments Morning all, very windy out but dry. Meeting at 9am! Food shopping after work then might be going for a walk, weather dependent.

Sorry you are working on a Sat Patti. Managing a manager sounds interesting Lindsay

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Morning,

She has some stories Claire, including coming across someone with tartan dyed pubic hair! I would do my course over again in a second, her lectures were fascinating.

Stuck in meetings most of the day, hopefully it'll make the day go in quicker. Yay for Friday!

Did you ever read Malcolm Saville's brilliant childrens' books set round there?

message 8042: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments No, I haven't Will. It's 35 years since we last went. We worked it out from the kids' ages back then.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12603 comments Turned wet and windy, so text my friend and declined going for a walk with her this afternoon!! Had a bizarre morning, should have had a 9am meeting, then it got changed to 1pm, then to 10am! Should have lasted half an hour, ended up being an hour. Got a night off from ‘rat medicating’, she has a vet visit this afternoon so suggested she got them to put his second lot of drops in, he’s really resisting now.

My brother read the lot - and I borrowed them. He also wrote - and received a reply from Malcolm Saville. If I remember correctly he was asking if there would be a follow on series with just the younger children.
My brother has spent quite a lot of time in Shropshire - apart from visiting when he was younger, they go regularly now as my SIL's family live there.
I think I preferred the ones set around Rye.

message 8047: by Benjamin (new)

Benjamin Appleby-Dean (benjaminappleby-dean) I read a couple of Malcolm Saville's books when I was younger, but I seem to remember them being quite scarce? I had to rely on secondhand copies rather than the local library.

message 8048: by Will (new)

Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments They don't seem to have been digitised for Kindle, and original copies go for about thirty quid.

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments I remember Malcolm Saville. I had a few of the Lone Pine series - are those the ones you mean? I really liked them.
