I will. you are not the only one who misses her. I'm not really sure why she isn't posting.

Trust me, they are. Very connected. There’s a reason they only film marathon runners from the front at the end of the race. Running makes you poo and if you’re the kind of runner who runs fast, you poo without stopping. Everyone else uses those blue portaloos ....

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12600 comments Morning all, was woken by the alarm, not surprised as I was wide awake at 4am! Glad its Friday, just got to drop some stuff off at a friends.

Exciting Patti

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Yep, exciting stuff, Patti. Took McMini to Duxford yesterday, we had a great day although he saw a photo, which freaked him out, so the night wasn’t so great but he seems on good form. Nice easy day at home today with a mate coming round for lunch. She’s bringing pizza.

Elizabeth White | 1761 comments The way Tim's recovering and being able to double up means he'll be beating that soon, Patti. Are you taking it with you?

Morning everyone.

Soft rain today and for the past few days.

Saw the GP who is writing me a referral to a private eye clinic. (It should improve my detecting skills enormously.) Seriously, I'm too concerned to wait for the dear old NHS to trundle along in a few months time, and if you're not willing to spend savings on your eyesight, what would you be willing to spend money on?

Have a good Friday all.

message 6969: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Morning!

I googled Duxford, I'm assuming the photo McMini saw was a war one? Poor kid.

So glad it is Friday. 5 days till we go on our holiday! (If you can call Aberdeen a holiday.)

I hope you get some help with your eyes, Elizabeth.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Good choice, Elizabeth.

I really should look into hiring someone to clean this flat after we've left. It's annoying having to do it as well as all the travelling stuff.

I suppose it has something to do with the fight or flight response. Either that, or it is a way of putting any chasing predator off their dinner.

I keep finding oddments and sticking them in the suitcases. Should probably give them another weigh before I stick anything else in...

Photo of a bombed out child crying in the arms of a female ARP. He’s also petrified of the sound of the air raid siren ... but then, so was I.

message 6977: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21812 comments The Barrow air raid siren sounds every Friday at 11:30am as they test it. If they sound it at any other time as anything but straight on and off, it's the nuclear alert siren

Hope you enjoy seeing your grandson, Kath.
I just went for a morning run and my body is now filing objections.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12600 comments Morning, another rubbish night sleep, neck was so sore it was painful to lie down. Need to go and pick up our cheque from pets at home today, unfortunately that requires having my pic taken! Food shopping on the way home then start the housework. Cool but sun trying to peek.

message 6983: by Jay-me (Janet) (new)

Jay-me (Janet) | 3784 comments Good morning. Hope everyone is well or getting better, eating plenty of bacon and reading.

I've had a mixed week.
Last Saturday mum had a scan to see if the treatment is working. Then we went to the caravan for the rest of the weekend, plans for a day on the Ravenglass steam train were cancelled because of the rain.
Wednesday was the consultant appointment but as the scan results weren't ready she couldn't say much.
Thursday we had a stairlift fitted. Mum is enjoying riding up and down. Then the hospital phoned with the scan results and all is going well. 😀

We have cancelled the carers who were coming twice a day. It will save time (as well as the amount that we were paying) as I will not have to redo some of the things that they did (not big things but for example it was really starting to stress me that I was having to empty the rubbish and recycling bins and sort them into the correct bins😵) The only extra thing that I will have to do is give morning and evening medication. We have organised extra time at the daycare centre which mum loves.

I've treated myself to audible membership and am trying to decide what to listen to first.

Safe journey Patti I suppose that you will be on here at all sorts of odd hours when you are settled.

Kath, we've had 3 days of grandparenting and are relieved it's ending!

Jay-me (Janet) | 3784 comments Jim wrote: "I've done the ratty in the rain, just after rain it can be magical"

But we didn't fancy it with the heavy rain on Sunday and a dog and Mum. So it will have to be the next time we go up to the caravan. I was looking forward to it as I've never been

Is there anyone who can advise me on headphones (and speakers) that will work with my i-things as well as the fire tablet (and also with my tv and music centre as well if possible). Preferably bluetooth and not in ear ones.

message 6987: by Tim (last edited Aug 04, 2018 07:29AM) (new)

Tim | 8539 comments The ultimate in bluetooth headphones are the Bose QC35-II. They ain't cheap, but they are to die for, and the most comfortable headphones you'll find anywhere. Older models are still available for less. Comes with an app that controls it. (I bought a different brand, and regret it) If you don't go for Bose, go for Sony as the next best.

So long as your TV/amp is bluetooth enabled, they will pair with it.

For a speaker I have the Bose SoundTouch 10. It sits in my office and I use it pretty much every day. Again there's an app that lets you configure it, set up the internet radio stations etc (it hooks up to your wifi as well as bluetooth)

There's also the Amazon Echo, which is a smaller version of similar, although personally I'm not a fan of the Alexa/voice commands stuff.

message 6988: by M.T. (new)

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments I'd second Tim on Bose, or Sennheiser are completely fantastic. You get great quality for the price tag and they're really comfortable and bigged up by the hi-fi buffs I know.

Save travels, happy grandparenting and have a good day everyone. No blog from me today as I had to do a mailing instead.

Cheers all

MTM

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4836 comments Jay-me, such good news about your mum. What a relief.

I get you about picking up after the carers. What are they for if they can't do things the way you need them done?

But as my sisters say (in a slightly different context), it is better to say, "How badly they did it," than "How well I did it," sometimes.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Ensconced in our Pret, all checked in and waiting for our gate.

Layover in Abu Dhabi, so I can put another tick on the list of countries I've been to.

Airports counts, don't they?

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments If airports count I have been in 3 more states in the US, so I think they do.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12600 comments Had quite an enjoyable day, even if I did end up in 3 different Aldi's! friend came to pick something up before I went to Burnley, picked up cheque and had pic taken, emptied our food bin which was a whole trolley full! I walked to the Aldi near them, and found cat food on offer that hadn't been on the e-mail I got, so bought what I'd already put in my basket, and decided to go to the other one I drive past, as the car was too far to drag food to. Nipped into Sainsbury's and got details of the person we need to speak to so we can fundraise in store. Then called in the third Aldi but they didn't have much of what I wanted. Did a couple of errands, then decided the sun was shining so too nice to do housework, I sat outside and read my book instead. unfortunately the sun went in when I had 15 mins left of my book to read. Then neighbour had gone to a different Aldi and found food I hadn't found in the other two, so we went back. The girls have been bought over 250 pouches today alone, I hope it will last the rest of the year, I discovered I had so much when I got home I have no idea where it is going to go!

Glad first part of your journey has gone well Patti. hope you are enjoying being with your family Kath. Glad your mums scan went well Janet.

Off to the Norfolk coast today, have a good Sunday all

message 6998: by Jay-me (Janet) (new)

Jay-me (Janet) | 3784 comments Thanks for the advice Tim and MT. I will study the speakers and headphones suggested. I had wondered about Echo but am not bothered about Alexa (switched off on my Fire)

Is it the Pets at Home near Halfords that you were in Desley? What is in your food bin there?

It was a warm dry day yesterday so I got quite a bit of mum's washing dried. It looks a bit cloudy this morning but I would like to take mum out for a run out.

I'm enjoying listening to my first audiobook. Although I do have to occasionally go back as I find that I have missed some.

Hope everyone has a good day.

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4836 comments Am up (it's 4:30 am here) after an hour's 'sleep', and will go back to bed soon.

Turned the AC down a degree, too - stuffy and hot from all the rain. I think it's the constant source of new problems from the move to solve that's making our sleep erratic, and I can't resolve any of it in the middle of the night, but brains don't necessarily listen to reason.

Anyone heard from Patti yet?
