We can all afford a knife. First world problems or what? 😝

message 6654: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments I recall a time in my life when I couldn't afford a knife.

And if they're pre-sliced you can toast them from frozen. So there!

I'm glad Dex is feeling perky, Lindsay.

dig out the slap and get the warpaint on :-)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Take them out of the freezer the night before. Plan your day around your meals - you can tell I do, can't you? ;)

message 6658: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Nope, I slice them before I freeze them.

Slap applied, photos took, slap removed.

Lovely and sunny here too.
Dave is cooking!

Everyone in Barry decided it was 'take your kid to tesco' day.

Shoulda gone to Waitrose.

Erica Forrest | 19 comments I've been taking tours in Yorkshire for setting inspiration and historical research. Anyone got recommendations for quite, small towns to pass through?

message 6664: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments I bet Kath does.

message 6665: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments I don't know Yorkshire all that well. I'm in Holderness and come from Manchester.

message 6666: by Erica (new)

Erica Forrest | 19 comments If you ever plan to visit the moors, I'd recommend a visit to the folk museum in Kirbymoorside, there's so much to see, much more than I'd expected, and some lovely forested places to hike.

message 6667: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments I have a friend who lives in Helmsley. That's a nice little town. A castle and a walled garden to visit.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12600 comments Yorkshire is quite a large area - depends if you are visiting north, east, south or west.

Had a tiring day! Got all my stuff, ended up spending longer in the park helping out and was in a lot of pain after, but fortunately a couple of painkillers and a drive to Huddersfield settled that down. Bumped into a few people in the park, which was nice. Had a bit of tea, just sitting with the foster cats before setting up the Fire stick and hopefully relaxing, rest of the housework can wait till tomorrow. I have a lot of cake to get through, so the sofa is a good place to be! It has tried to rain a few times and glad I had my jacket as it went very cool, but sun is coming out now.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Gorgeous afternoon here. We walked down the coast but avoided Barry Island.
If this weather keeps up, I may enter the water at some point.

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments It was a lovely day here too. Apart from the Landrovers!

message 6671: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments I saw the photos, Rosemary!

Talk about looming danger!

Apparently, you can hire the beach huts down Barry island by the day or half day. I can't imagine anything more boring than spending the day cheek by jowl down there.

Benjamin Appleby-Dean (benjaminappleby-dean) Morning, everyone. Animals are back to waking me up with the dawn chorus.
I might go for a run while it's still quiet.

message 6676: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21812 comments bit of luck we might have more rain today. Forecast looks reasonable, we're in the Atlantic airstream rather than the one coming out of southern europe :-)

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12600 comments No lie in for me today but at least I pretty much slept through. Overcast here again, might be able to do some of the boring housework like dusting. Second day of our rushbearing festival, so going there for an hour or so at lunchtime. Both eyes slightly sore today, whatever is sore on my right eyelid hasn't come out. Unfortunately fire stick doesn't work with my set up, might see if someone at work will buy it before I send it back to Amazon

Sorry you aren't feeling well Megan.

message 6679: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Morning, each! Sunny here again and the first tomatoes are ripening in the greenhouse.

I shall write something. Who knows what? Well, me, obvs!

message 6680: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth White | 1761 comments Morning everyone.

Mist over the hills and the pavers are looking wet.

I've never heard of HFM and that's one child and nearly 30 years on. Is it some new virus?

Lovely kittens, Rosen. One day again, perhaps...

My sympathy over the eye problem, Desley. I seem to be having vision problems which the optician can't sort out and so has referred me to the local eye clinic with the words that an appointment 'will probably take a few months'.

message 6681: by Kelly (new)

Kelly Clayton | 1040 comments Fingers crossed this post gets through - I tried a few times yesterday but just got the old whirring, thinking about it symbol.

Went to our office Summer Ball last night. Feet are sore from too much dancing. Old codgers on the dancefloor, eh!

Sunny day but most of it will be spent in front of the laptop. Might go for a walk later, if my feet are up to it.

Megan, hope you feel better soon and Desley, sounds painful. Take care.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12600 comments Do hope you don't have to wait too long for an appointment Elizabeth, and hope your feet recover soon Kelly, always a sign of a good night.

The first time I'd heard of HFM virus was when the BBC was explaining to the world that Food and Mouth was different to HFM

Some things can't wait that long - hope it's not one of those. You might want to look up your symptoms online. Detaching retinas, for example (husband had one), must be reattached asap.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12600 comments Well, I spent too long at the festival and paying for it now! Not good as I haven't finished the housework. Stayed a bit longer as there was a good choir on, and then I'd just said I was going home when someone I used to work with walked past me, haven't seen her for years (ironically she grew up next to my grandparents, but I didn't remember that!), so she stopped, gave me a big hug and we had a little catch up, and then she took pity on me and had a go on the tombola, so the charity got an extra £3 for that! Neighbour managed to sort my fire stick out so it does work, very happy.

message 6686: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Alicia is correct, Elizabeth.

Dave's father lost the sight in one eye because he didn't get it seen to fast enough.
I'd go so ar as to suggest a trip to A&E.

message 6687: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth White | 1761 comments Ok, now I really have the wind up! Symptom look-up will follow.

Currently in a warm 'glow' after a stint over a hot stove producing bacon, sausages, egg, tomato, bacon, fried beans, fried potato, mushrooms, fried bread and black pudding. Oh, did I mention bacon? Anyway, stuffed!

message 6688: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments we had that for breakfast. Except for the beans, fried bread, mushrooms and potatoes.

message 6689: by Lindsay (new)

Lindsay (kiwi365) | 3672 comments Evening all,

Not sure how long HFM has been around. I know very little about it.

Hope everyone had a good Sunday, we spent the day doing jobs inside and out, strange as it may seem it was a really good day.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Good morning!

It's quite humid this morning. Or I've boiled the kettle too often?

message 6691: by Benjamin (new)

Benjamin Appleby-Dean (benjaminappleby-dean) Morning, all.
Humid here, too! It's not going to be a great day for working indoors.

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Yesterday was beautiful here, today the sky is concrete grey. First day of school holidays. What mischief shall we get up to. There’s a lovely paddling pool across the road so he’ll enjoy that. The hard part will be getting him to leave.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12600 comments Morning all, overcast but humid. We had rain overnight, car was wet. Supposed to rain today.

Thanks for the school holiday reminder, will be a quick journey to work

message 6695: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Morning, each. Hot and muggy here too, and this mythical rain we've been hearing about - nah. Not had a drop.

Take care out there!

message 6696: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Morning!!

I hope everyone had a good weekend. I took the kids to Rose Week last night, I wish we had gone in the afternoon because they loved it but we could only stay an hour as it was so late. some beautiful flowers there and a really unusually coloured rose, it was bluey/lavender, its name was something like DC5783. Kathleen loved the ones called "Fairies". Thought of you a lot while I was there, Kath!

Hope Dexter is on the mend. HFM usually doesn't last too long and if they are in good form that's usually a good sign that they are winning the war. It must be a new virus, or newly identified one, perhaps it was called something else previously.

I have a job interview tomorrow and Nathan smashed his face this morning and cut the inside of his lip. Life is never dull!

message 6697: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Didn't Kitty smash her face not long ago too? Or am I thinking of a different friend's kid?

message 6698: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments No, it was Kitty. She ran into the side of a chair and burst her lip.

Nathan has a huge scab on his forehead too, I'm expecting the call from social services

message 6699: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Thank you for thinking of me, Jud! I love a good flower show!
