Thanks again to all for the welcome back xx

I wish Patti - I would love to see hedgehogs in my garden again, but sadly it's now been about 5 years since we've had one - and the other thing that seems to have disappeared from our garden is slow-worms. I don't think we've seen one of them since our son was in his teens and he's in his 40's now.

Nigeria got too hot for them?

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Lots of hedgehogs have been affected by infected slugs and snails. I’ve been keeping an eye on the situation because apparently South Wales is a hotspot for lung worm in dogs and my spaniel is a little bugger for eating them.

I can get my head round people complaining about this weather.

It's lovely and cool for sleeping and not too hot nor humid in the day.

It's perfect weather!

It is hot here we have several moorland fires not far away.

I wish it was lovely and cool for sleeping. Poor mum can't cope with the hot weather.

She was crying yesterday but that was mainly because she was happy that her first great grandchild was born.

Benjamin Appleby-Dean (benjaminappleby-dean) Far too warm at night here as well - we haven't even used bed covers most of the week.

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Well I love this weather. The Brits aren't happy when there's nothing to complain about and the weather is a neutral topic. Not like politics or religion.
Off to do the weekly food shop next. Then the day's my own.

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Morning!

I have been loving the weather too, it's not so fun when you are stuck in an office with no A/C though so I think it is fair game to complain about that. My office is like a little bunker and we can open the emergency exit door so we get a wee breeze. Lovely. It's a lot cooler and overcast this morning, a welcome break from the heat.

Congratulations on the newest family member Janet!

Sent off a job application last night and got another one to do today then another closes later in July.

Tim | 8539 comments Morning. Another day in my baking hot non-air conditioned office (which is next to my baking non-air conditioned bedroom, where I've failed to get a decent night's sleep. Again).

Grumpy? You wait till the weekend!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12599 comments Not sure how well I slept, and got woken up at 6.30 by a bird! Luckily I had to be in work early for a meeting. We have a temp receptionist, it was slightly embarrassing as I know her! We were good friends over 10 years ago, but she was my housemates sisters friend and when my housemate left, we drifted apart. I couldn’t quite remember how things were left, but she seems friendly with me, and it was her that pointed out she knew me. She only lives 5 mins up the road! Didn’t get to the vet last night, Lucy was in hiding, she came out just after the appointment time but was at the top of the stairs with that look on her face that said she’d hide if I got close – she is way too clever for her own good! I don't complain about the heat, although it isn't ideal for my foster cats, who have to be kept in one room, and I can only have the window open on the trickle vent system - the upstairs of my house hasn't been below 25 this week, I think I'll take the thermostat in their room tonight. It has affected me sleeping, which is unusual.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments I'm currently at Salon Dave. He hacked a good chunk off my hair yesterday. It's the shortest it's been since I was a kid, and it feels glorious.
I'm hoping this colour isn't too dark. It's temporary, though, so it'll wash out fast if I need it to.

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Does that mean you can't sit on your hair? (apart from the bits he hacked off)

message 6272: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Oh I wanted to ask your advice Desley.

There is a cat that comes into our garden every time we bbq. The other day it snuck into our conservatory to grab a bit of sausage Nathan had dropped and I also caught it part way into the kitchen licking at something on the floor. I thought at first it was just a neighbour's cat chancing it's luck at extra food and cuddles but it does seem to be very focused on getting food as though it was really hungry and it does appear to be fairly skinny, although still looks otherwise healthy to me. It could just be a skinny cat. I don't want to just ignore it if it is actually homeless but what's the best way to find out?

It has been coming into our garden everyday since it succeed in getting food and I think someone fed it a bit of something at a bbq.

It has a collar but no tag.

Not even close, GL.

I'll get a photo when it's dry.

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Have you got a local Facebook pet site - pets lost & found etc. In our area people post up pics of cats like that asking if they belong to anyone. you could attach a note to its collar if you can handle it without getting scratched.

Thanks Lynne, I did wonder about attaching a note, I didn't know if that would be a weird thing to do. It's a very friendly cat and will wind itself around your legs, given the opportunity.
I hadn't thought about Facebook groups, I think Gareth is part of a local one so I'll ask him to post a picture next time we see her.

message 6276: by Benjamin (new)

Benjamin Appleby-Dean (benjaminappleby-dean) You could always ask a vet to check if it's been microchipped as well? Although that's not likely to be free.

Jay-me (Janet) | 3784 comments Just facetimed with my niece from her hospital room.

They are supposed to do that for free, although some charities will also come out and do that, depends who you have local. Paper collars are a good start, as is Facebook.

That's lovely Janet

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Carnival here tomorrow, hope it stays fine for it. Have you seen the listeria warning on some frozen veggies. I’m just surprised at where it comes from, Hungarian factory seems to be the source.

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments Missed being splatted on by a seagull by millimetres today. Feeling lucky. Not like the chap I watched up on the seabird centre deck having his lunch nicked by bird of same variety when he went back in to collect something! So hot here this evening, very unusual for us

How come they manage to make it land in the most inaccessible place on a window. I think I'd probably end up in a broken heap, if I tried to clean their latest ejection off my bedroom window. I guess I'll just have to wait for the window cleaner to come round again - but that's not for another 2 weeks - so it'll be well and truly baked on by then!!

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments I’ve got a pressure sprayer with clean water in it and I use that for splatter. Sometimes have to fill it with warm soapy water but it works for me. Have to stand on the window ledge sometimes so I often think it might be a bit risky but it’s horrobile stuff. An old washing up liquid bottle works as well.

Tim | 8539 comments Good morning. Managed to sleep last night. Off now to see if I can make a cup of tea without exploding the teabag . . .

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12599 comments Didn't get a lie in again, struggled to get to sleep last night, then Lucy wanted breakfast at 8, but she hasn't eaten - I keep throwing food away, might have to put her on more dry than wet, and might be a blessing we couldn't go on Thu, I can get bloods done now. Need to go and take our money and leftover cards to Pets at Home so they can process our cheque, pop in the Sainsburys next door to see how we go about fundraising there, and maybe find a microwave

message 6290: by Kath (last edited Jul 07, 2018 01:58AM) (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Eh up! Warm again. Got a load of washing done and I'm off to the farm round the corner to get some of her new wool. She's had it processed at a wool mill so it's separated into cream, dark brown and a sort of mid grey - which is the bits that wouldn't separate easily, all combed together. They're now in professional balls of wool so I'm going to make her some hats to sell. Makes a change from the teddies which I'm making faster than they can use them anyway!

Knitting woolly hats in a heatwave. I want my head seen to!

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments My darling decided the two old army blankets he keeps in the car ‘might’ need a wash. Seeing as they came from his parents caravans from the 1950’s and I’ve certainly never washed them ever, he ‘might’ be right. He ‘might’ even do it himself, but that ‘might’ just never happen.

This might be something you do already but run a deep bath with favourite bath bubbles, candles, music/book/whatever she would appreciate, drink of choice and then take Dexter off for a bit while she takes as long as she wants to relax?
Cup of tea in bed first thing?
If she's a makeup/face cream sort of person then a hot cloth cleanser set? (You can get some not too badly priced ones and they're the sort of thing you get more than one use out of)
If you're handy in the kitchen make your own afternoon tea in the garden? Sandwiches, scones, cake, fruit, tea/drink of choice?

Hope something there might be useful!

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Date night at home, cook dinner, chocs, wine and a film?
Hair appointment or manicure or relaxing massage.
Day at a health farm or spa.
Picnic somewhere that means something to you all.
I must admit if I want pampering I have to do it myself. Just the thought of my OH thinking about it for me would be nice. He just doesn’t think along those lines, he’d pay for it but never think to suggest or organise it.

Cover Dexter’s sandpit Lindsay, cats!

message 6297: by ✿Claire✿ (new)

✿Claire✿ (clairelm) | 2602 comments And another thought Lindsay, if she's the sort of person who would prefer getting out and about to soaking in the bath, make a treasure hunt through your favourite parts of a nearby place (somewhere like Ely or Cambridge would probably work) and end with her favourite cafe or a picnic. So give her directions to follow or a treasure map with clues that would mean something to both of you.
