Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Oh!

Gimme details, please Will!

Would be great if I could convince Dave to go.

Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments Soon as I get some details, I'll let you know

message 5803: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Thank you, Will.

I've discovered ASDA has a decent selection of cotton and linen clothes online. Thank gawd. There's no way I'll find anything that'll fit me in Myanmar. I just need enough to get me through until I find a good tailor, I hope.
Nothing I had in Baku will be suitable. It's all either been worn to death and left behind, or for cold weather, or sleeveless, which isn't at all proper.

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Morning..... Eh... Afternoon.

I guess since this isn't the morning thread anymore I don't need to always say morning anymore.

Kitty graduated from play group this morning and now Nana and Papa have taken her and Nathan up to the North Coast for a birthday lunch for Nana.

Thinking about Dave's Dad, Patti. Hope the tests all go well.

I like to listen to Classic FM but in work it's a local radio station we listen to, Q radio.

message 5805: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4836 comments Pulling for Dave's dd, Patti.

Can't stand the radio on. OH turns it on when he's in the kitchen, and it's like him saying, "Please go away." Cannot bear to have random other people constantly interrupting whatever thoughts I'm trying to muster.

message 5806: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Let us know how the tests go, Patti. They may be able to give him some information straight away.

message 5807: by Lindsay (new)

Lindsay (kiwi365) | 3672 comments Afternoon all,

Been out in Cambridge this morning after Dexter's Tumble Tots session. Beautiful sunny day here.

Going to spend the afternoon in the garden.

I'm not a big radio person, too much talking, i prefer to just listen to music so i generally have my iPod or a cd or something on.

Fingers crossed for Dave's dad Patti!

message 5808: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Well, that was expensive. I also ordered three pairs of shoes while I was at it.

Easy to return the stuff, though. Just need to take it to the store for a refund.

Thanks for the good thoughts, all.

I do hope they can give him some idea of the results straight away. The not knowing is always the hardest bit.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Damn.

I guess a couple of Cumberland sausage don't count?

Wine counts as fruit. I'll have to have four glasses.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12598 comments I never used to listen to the radio because of the talking but it seems less. There is one presenter on the station I listen to in the car I can't stand, so i switch off, he says 20 words when 5 are needed

message 5813: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth White | 1761 comments My experience is that men need noise in the morning - TV or radio, doesn't matter - and women (me) need quiet.

Evening all.

Now sunny and the cold wind has become merely cool. The ham is simmering in its veg and bay leaves, the leeks and flour-with-mustard-powder coated potato cubes are roasting in the oven, albeit not in the same dish.

Fingers X'd for Dave's dad, Patti.

message 5814: by M.T. (new)

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments I love popular music and I love comedy. So that’s radios 1, 2, and 4 for me - although mostly 2 and 4 with the occasional foray into Radio 3 if there’s something good on because I like classical music too, but you don’t really need a presenter for that.

I hope all goes well for Dave’s dad, Desley’s foster cats, Alicias impending sale, well run Jud, congrats Will, hope the new release is going well Jim and um... hello everyone. Off to the Tower of London with McMini tomorrow ... just hope they let me out again.

Cheers

MTM

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Oh and yeh, banner is gopping and unfortunately I’m using an iThing at the mo so I haven’t learned how to Adblock in safari. Might just have to get chrome.

message 5816: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Good morning.

Coffee is ready.

I've no idea about how to Adblock.

I'm not finding the banner too distracting. At least it's not flashing as some have in the past. Would be nice if we could X it out, but it'd probably come back every time we refreshed the page.

message 5817: by Benjamin (new)

Benjamin Appleby-Dean (benjaminappleby-dean) Morning, all.

Patti, do you have Adblock already installed? If so, you should be able to right-click on the banner and select 'block element'

message 5818: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Nope. I use chrome on iPad, so I expect I'd have to download an app of some sort.

I've not much free memory, so I'm not willing to download an app.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments It's a gorgeous morning here!

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments I uninstalled Adblock because it slowed my elderly mac to a leaden-footed crawl.

Morning all. Looks like a super day, lovely red sky at 4 this morning :/

message 5821: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Uhoh. Sailors warning, Nosemanny.

Was a lovely red sunset here last evening.

Did I mention our new Myanmar Lonely Plant arrived yesterday?

I should be studying it. There'll definitely be a quiz later...

We're on the second floor! How the %$€ did it get in here???

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12598 comments Morning all, woke up at 6.09, panicked because I hadn't set my alarm, realised 2 mins later that it was Saturday!! Gave up trying to get to sleep at 6.49, and made a cup of tea, tried to get back to sleep at 7.30 and failed. Got a really busy morning, the charity I volunteer for are opening the new premises to the public, I am making some food for the vegans, so we have to be there quite early, want to stay for the opening ceremony at 2.30. Am hoping I can sell some of the scratchcards there. Need to do some housework first and got to nip to a local shop to collect something. Really sunny here.

I'm the complete opposite Elizabeth, I can't stand silence, so the first thing I do when I get home from work is put some music on, and I have music playing all night. I have no idea how it got there Patti. Enjoy the Tower of London MT.

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Was it a Lonely Slug?

message 5828: by Kelly (new)

Kelly Clayton | 1040 comments I love silence but can work with noise in the background as well. When I drive to the office in the morning I listen to 103 FM, which is a local radio station.

Lovely and sunny outside but I will be connected to the keyboard for most of the day. Then we have to do a B&Q run -the joy!

message 5833: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Dave has killed two Lenovos Geoff recommended.

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments I have an Asus that Geoff recommended. Its doing just fine.

message 5835: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments I looked at an Asus as well.

I think you use it for different things than we do, GL. Dave needs lots of memory for his photos and music. Not so much gaming stuff, which I think you'd need?

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments I wasn't into gaming when I got it, but I am now I have all my photos and music on an external drive, which isn't great for moving around, but I only use mine at my desk. So yes, different uses.

I'm also contemplating one, so will see what is recommended for you. I want to go on GR, watch TV and do some of the charity admin.

Am absolutely shattered, I didn't even have to do that much today, I was being an attendee today rather than a helper. Was hoping for more people, but at least it was dry so we were all OK sat outside, although it was incredibly windy. Won a bottle of wine on the raffle, would have preferred the manicure. Managed to go to Lidl on the way home for the 3 things I forgot from Aldi yesterday, was good and only came home with 6 things.

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Gingerlily - All kinds of everything! wrote: "I have an Asus that Geoff recommended. Its doing just fine."

I have an Asus. Love it but every windows update borks something new, so for example, I have an external drive, but my Asus can no longer access it, the mouse pad had gone weird and I’ve had to buy a new printer to use for pdfs because the old one won’t work anymore.

Went to London today with McMini and met McOther who was already down there. We went to the Tower of London and HMS Belfast. I lived in London for three years and visited countless other times but never in all my life have I seen them raise Tower Bridge ... until today ... twice! Once while I was on it. It was epic and I couldn’t help beging amused by the fact that there are a handful of people in Britain who get to answer the question, ‘What do you do’ with the words, ‘I’m a Bridge Driver.’

Fuck it, I want to be a Bridge Driver!

Cheers

MTM

Don't have one here. Can't justify the expense when we're here only a few weeks a year.

message 5847: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments You'd be a magnificent bridge driver, Mary. I bet you could get that sucker across the country in a couple hours flat.

Good morning!

I must have slept funny. I feel as though I've been hit across the back of my neck by a plank. Ouch.
I'm sure a coffee or two will sort it.

Pummel them. Get out some of your aggression. You'll sleep better.

message 5849: by Benjamin (new)

Benjamin Appleby-Dean (benjaminappleby-dean) Morning all. Didn't sleep too well here either, I think due to a mixture of alcohol and some minor illness.

A bridge sounds like one of the few things I'd be qualified to drive. I wonder how often they hire?

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Just watching the news. That (second!) fire at the Glasgow School of Art is disheartening. I do hope it'll be rebuilt.
Doesn't your daughter go there, Rosemary? Or has she graduated?

Gotta say the Scottish accent is my favourite. It's like butter.
