Afternoon

It was Kitty's Sports Day today so we went along to see her. She tripped coming out the door and scraped her knee and refused to partake in any of the activities! They only had a couple anyway, they had all the fun and games before parents arrived so there wouldn't be any pressure on the kids. Flipping typical, if I'd have known I wouldn't have bothered taking off work for it.

In other news, I made a wax food wrap (beeswax melted over woven cotton) and it is amazing! I have 2 and I use them instead of cling film as an attempt to reduce my plastic usage. I need to make some more. I wrapped my sandwich in it today.

Afternoon. Recovering from having my old work mates and our hairdresser here for haircuts and lunch. Gosh, I'm full! No writing today.

Interesting day at work. The internet went kerblooey last night. They managed to get it back for about 20 minutes this morning, then it went REALLY kerblooey. They're hoping to get it back tomorrow.

Nothing more frightening than a school full of teachers at the end of the year.
Now imagine them not being able to communicate nor print.

Frikkin terrifying.

Nice meal out after work, although I'm not feeling particularly sociable.

What an evening - got home to find a letter from the doctor informing me they have my ultrasound results and could I ring to make an appointment to discuss - rang to explain that they shouldn't have had the results, I can come and see a doctor but he wont' know why the podiatrist wanted it doing. Got put on hold for ages, then the manager came on to say they needed to look into it, so wondering if they actually have the results. Annoyingly, I've seen 3 doctors, 2 podiatrists, an x ray technician and an ultrasound technician, and still not got a result!! The 5th person admitted the MRI I've asked twice for would have shown the problem, but they try not to do them to save money - I'm not convinced they have in this case, especially if you count the extra prescriptions I've needed due to the pain levels. Then went into the hairdressers and had another saga, which meant by the time I got out, the doctor had shut, so it will be mon before I get to speak to anyone - it was OK the receptionist saying don't worry it can wait till Mon, she isn't the one in pain!! Went to the hairdresser and got asked if I live on x street, it's the next street - they have a 90 year old client who didn't go for her appointment yesterday and hadn't' rang, so they were concerned about her, my neighbour knows her, so I text her and we found out what house she lives at so the hairdresser went round, which meant I had to wait 20 mins for her to come back and finish my hair!! Luckily the client was OK. My neighbour has got a really bad knee today, so popped to the chemist for her, but they were out of stock with what she wanted. Then when I got home, I had to make her tea, as she cant stand long enough to do it - didn't think I could say no really, seeing as she makes mine most nights. Managed to do a little bit of housework at least

Ooh, that sounds interesting Jud. Sorry you had taken time off work for no reason. Sounds a rather interesting situation to be in Patti!!

Sorry to hear all that, Desley - you need to write it up and get it published in a newspaper to show how things really work when you need healthcare. Nobody who is covered by a health plan should go through what you have.

Oxford, for those who might need to know, is the least disabled friendly place I have ever visited. For K (who can't walk a long distance at the moment) a taxi was needed to drive along a perfectly good street to get from the car park to the venue - private cars were forbidden to use it, even to drop off people with disability badges.

I shall avoid returning - ever. Even though the Waterstones is magnificent

In the last six months or so, they've been putting slopes at some of the street corners here.
Only downtown in the 'posh' bit of the city, of course.
And certainly not wide enough for a wheelchair.
And not a thought to any other obstruction on the pavement.

That's outrageous - as if it didn't occur to them someone disabled might want to attend. You should write a strongly-worded letter to whoever makes these decisions - your wife is a taxpayer and a citizen. It shouldn't cost her more - if they want you not to drive up, they need to provide a shuttle.

It was only 3.9 on the Richter scale, which is exponential. We had a 5.Something a few years ago and that did no damage either. We're in more danger from wind here in Britain, Alicia. I have a degree in geology - it's a bit old now! So not worried, more interested really.

Good. I hesitated to point out that was a tiny one - we even had a 5 something here in staid New Jersey a few years back.

But it is still unsettling to have the ground under you become suddenly unstable. I hope where we move in California doesn't have a lot of earthquakes, and I will never stop worrying about my daughter in San Francisco, just because there's nothing else I can do. And we're moving to be close to at least one of ours, and she happens to be the most likely to stay put, unless... The big one is overdue.

Hi All, got back from Chester at lunch, started the housework, then realised it was boiling hot outside, so got the sunlounger out and read instead!! I wasn't expecting to get back that early anyway. Have done a bit since, but not much. Had a great time in Chester, we got there at 12, my friends husband started drinking straight away. Unfortunately, we weren't impressed with the food on offer where we stayed, so we walked into town, and found a lovely little sandwich shop, so ate there, then had a little wander round, stopped at Slug and Lettuce for two cocktails, before going back for our other friend who was aiming to get there at 3. Had a bit of rain, but missed most of it, although I did have to sit with my hood up for a while. Checked in when our other friend arrived, the place we stayed only built the rooms a couple of years ago, so everything was new, and the 'extras' were nice - biscuits, heat cups, cafeteire, teapot, and some nice toiletries, so used theirs rather than mine!! Then met up with my brother, sister-in-law, nephew and one of my sister-in-laws friends for a meal, which was nice when they got it right - they brought me a meat burger first, so had to go and make a halloumi burger!! My sister-in-laws friends bought a cake for my brother, think he cursed them when the staff brought it out!! Had a couple of drinks there, then my sister-in-law took my nephew back to the room (with the cake!) and we went back to where we were staying for a few drinks, although they stop serving at 11. No one could be bothered to find anywhere else, so went to our rooms!! My bro and sis-in-law came to where we were staying for breakfast this morning, nearly worked out rather expensive. Had such a lovely time meeting up with everyone, a lot of laughter and alcohol. One of my favourite things was just being able to sit having a drink and chatting with friends in the afternoon with no worries about the cats or housework. Got back at 12, Lucy took one look at me and ran up the stairs, my neighbours cat Sooty gave me a lovely greeting though!! Neighbour made tea too.

I saw that on the news Kath, wondered if it would affect anyone on here. Glad it did no damage. Enjoy your couple of weeks Lindsay, especially spending time with Dexter
