Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Morning

My computer is broken so I'm using someone else's while the IT guy tries to fix mine for me. It needs reimaged so that'll take a while.

I need to take 5 minutes to plan out my month too, there is so much going on with Kitty's play group and her nursery for September. I'm going to have a few half days, I think.

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Oh and good luck with the sale, Will!!

Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments If anyone lives near the National Botanical Gardens of Wales, there's a storytelling weekend July 21 & 22 mainly aimed at children. I'll be telling some Welsh legends, and selling books and Cds at the fair as well, surrounded by strange and exotic plants instead of strange and exotic people, for a change

I'm sure the people will be there too, just hiding behind the plants.

Morning all. Another sunny day

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Morning (technically). That sounds excellent, Will.

I've got a loaf rising and 30 lemon and (dried) bluberry shortbread biscuits in the oven. Smells gorgeous.

Enough of this friviloty. I had a revelation last night, when thinking of something entirely different, and now have the structure of my new book established. Unless I change it again! Off to scatter words over a page.

message 5308: by Bianca (new)

Bianca (beebabebee) Hi everyone, my name is Bianca and I have just joined my first group/book club on Goodreads, and actually ever!

I choose this one as I have recently brought a Kindle Paperwhite. I was always put off by reading as I'm slightly dyslexic and I would end up reading the same lines and pages over and over again and it was so hard to take in.
I turned to Amazon Audible and enjoyed listening to the stories, esp by those who I admire Autobiography wise as they would read their own story which is fab so I could hear it as intended. However for the other genes of books I found some of the narration to be frustrating.
So hence me buying my first Kindle and I have to say I am impressed and enjoying reading. I like that I can change the font, size and space to it suits me.

I have loads I want to read now, its just finding the time lol

The Kindle comes with a dyslexic-friendly font - if you haven't found it already. Happy reading.

message 5315: by Bianca (new)

Bianca (beebabebee) Thanks, which font is that?

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12597 comments Evening, had a shocking night sleep, fortunately a quiet day at work, but got a committee meeting, which I could do without. Sunny now.

Keeping everything crossed Will. Can you send some shortbread this way Kath? Nice to meet you Bianca, glad you have found a way to get into reading. Good luck planning Kittys activities Jud.

Benjamin Appleby-Dean (benjaminappleby-dean) Morning all. Cold again here as well, and it doesn't look like improving.

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments Morning all. Just in from watering our new fancy schmancy High Street barrels. They've got a reservoir (which will make my life much easier) that seems to hold about 30 litres of water. It's taken me hours! But I feel like I've really earned my breakfast :)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Morning!

Almost finished my audiobook World Without End I've loved it. I'm way behind the herd with reading this series but I'm raving about it now, 10 years after everyone else.

message 5327: by Kath (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments I'm sitting here watching our stuff being boxed.

In more exciting news, my eldest niece informed me she's starting a monthly book club in her house.

Apparently, there are 10-15 women between the ages of 25-35 interested.
A gossip of young mothers. ;)

She asked me if I had reccies for them. Of course I do. Many.

Thought I'd throw it at the group, too.

Elizabeth White | 1761 comments Morning everyone.

Wish I was going back to the National Botanic Gardens in July, Will.

All water provided services seem to be back to normal and it's another beautiful day. Our neighbours are replacing the old garden fence with a higher one. We don't mind - apparently it's in case they don't get on so well with the new neighbours if and when we move.

All good luck for tomorrow, the other Will, just in case I'm not back on here for a day or two.

What kind of book club is it? A serious one or a more lighthearted one where they mostly want to get together to chat and drink wine? There's no point recommending longer books if people are unlikely to read more than 200 pages.

I'd love to find (or start!) a book club

Ooh, that is exciting. I decided against joining a book club as I struggle to find enough time to read books I want to, without having to read books I may not like because someone else chose them. Go for it Jud!

Thought you said recipes for a minute and did several double takes. Wondered if it was a cooking book club! Although I do know of at least one novel that happens to have some great recipes in it (better not mention it here though or slapped wrists might occur)

Seriously if they want to chat and drink wine and sort of talk about stuff they read how about suggesting a couple of blogs for them.
They could all read the same blog post and come together and discuss it. It has the advantage of being free, everybody can get a copy and however busy they are they should be able to read it
Somebody just chooses a particular blog post and circulates the url for people to click on

Obviously I'd mention my blog or Tallis, BUT other blogs are ought there. MTM does a cracking blog and they have a choice of something really meaty about dementia or as a contrast some of her stories about her and her brother.

Similarly isn't it Will who has his orgy stories?

I've no doubt others have other suggestions

message 5339: by Benjamin (new)

Benjamin Appleby-Dean (benjaminappleby-dean) I tried to start a book club once but it kind of fell apart after everyone complained at actually having to buy/borrow copies of the book in question.

I'd point to Nanny Ogg's cookbook for one.

(Famous Carrot & Oyster pie: carrots so that you can see in the dark, and oysters so that there's something to look at. STP.)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Yeah, I'm up in the middle of the night again. And I have to be at work in a few hours. Sigh.

Oh crap, and we're out again this evening. Sigh.

Anyway.

Yeah, that's a good idea Jim. I'll run it past her.

I do think running a book club is hard work. There's been several abortive attempts here at school but no one seems to have the time for more than a month or two. Suddenly there's reports or assessments or open house or a hundred other things.

We still have always spent lots of time discussing books we've read, just not formally and not all the same book at the same time.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12597 comments Morning all, sunny here. Hopefully an easy day at work, hair app straight from work, then housework and packing.

Hope you get through everything Patti. That's a good point about book clubs

message 5345: by Benjamin (new)

Benjamin Appleby-Dean (benjaminappleby-dean) Morning all. Neutral day hetre but could certainly be worse. Glad it's Friday.

Hope everything settles down for you, Patti.

I have finally got my internet sorted!

Finishing up at my current job today, going in this afternoon to hand in my laptop and phone. Can't wait to be free of them.

Hope everyone is doing ok here?

Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments Busy day today. The first space opera book goes live today, and has cracked the top 20,000 paid on Kindle in the UK already - a good result by my standards.

Then this afternoon K and I are off to Waterstones in Oxford for the launch of a small press anthology with one of my short stories in it. Be a bit late home tonight, I suspect

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12597 comments Glad you have internet again Lindsay, good luck handing everything back in. Great news Will. Our new person is picking things up so quickly, I'm feeling a bit lost at present.
