Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12597 comments Morning all, had a bonkers night, will post more later. Sunny here, woke up with a really stiff neck but foot not as bad as last night. Still no appointment so need to ring someone today, just not sure who!

Glad you are back and have a plan Alicia, even if you came back to some issues. Congrats Lindsay. Glad you are getting there Will, good luck for the next procedure

Congrats on the job offer, Lindsay

I don't know how much weather anyone else got last night: I was looking forward to a storm, and all we got was a heavy, oppressive feeling coming in from outside, with just about enough rain to stop me having to get the hosepipe out this morning for the garden

Benjamin Appleby-Dean (benjaminappleby-dean) Morning, all. Stuffy warm weather and rampaging animals kept us awake last night as well.

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Morning!

Had a terrible night's sleep last night and the night before so I'm feeling a bit rough today. I have coffee though.

Phoned the Dr about my toe and he told me they can't refer me for an x-ray until the injury is at least 2 weeks old so my options are to go to a&e or wait until I'm 2 weeks post injury, which is Sunday. I'll probably just ring again next week.

Glad you're home safe Alicia and fingers crossed that your retirement place comes together and you can get the ball rolling.

Congrats Lindsay! What a relief. Is it something you would be happy doing?

Good luck Will! Hope it all goes smoothly and you are back to your old self again soon

Did I miss anyone?

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments All sounding good folks, hope it continues, new home, new job, bath for Elizabeth and hope for Will & Desley for good treatment. I’m off out to lunch with neighbours. My treat. I’m not cooking and they are so kind so it’s the Chèvre D’Or today. No washing up!

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments How do? Missed morning. Not really but I was involved in a discussion with an author about subordinate clauses and our friend arrived so we knocked off for a hot drink. Then I wrote. So, here I am.
I think the sun is breaking through so there'll be gardening perpatrated before we're much older.
Take care, all.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12597 comments a bonkers evening, my neighbour had a person staying overnight, I took them to the local shop to get something for tea, then we realised when we got home we had been overcharged, so had to go in the car then to go back to get my £3.50 back. Unfortunately my foot had swelled a bit yesterday in the heat, by the time we got back from that, it was so swollen the skin had gone tight!! After speaking to 3 people, it appears my referral to the scan people wasn’t done – they have slots for next week, but need the referral form, and the bloke I saw isn’t in the clinic today, so likely Monday before he can do it – not sure why no one else could!! ETA - the consultant rang me, he tried to fob me off saying he'd have to ask the referral person to send the e-mail again when they are back in on Mon, luckily the mediscan lady was lovely and gave me a direct fax number and name, if he does it this afternoon, I'll get in next week, so I made him take the details and he said he'd print it now and fax it!!

That sounds bonkers Jud.

message 5214: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Doesn't it! I guess the idea behind it must be that after 2 weeks a percentage of injuries would have healed and prove that an x-ray wouldn't have been needed so they will have reduced the number of patients to be seen. That's what I'm telling myself anyway, the NHS have to scrape together what savings they can!

And for the broken-bone people, two weeks walking, running, climbing stairs on a broken foot would be devastating. Where is 'First, do no harm'? Plus two weeks of pain, and being required to go to work, etc. Doesn't sound as if they care for people and their problems. Would you really go get an X-ray or MRI for the fun of it?

message 5216: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Oh you can go to a&e from the off if you wish or need, I didn't because I wasn't in pain or hindered much. But I thought a&e wouldn't take me once my injury was over a week old so I phoned the GP instead which would give me a referral rather than an age of a wait in a&e.

Dish of the day today was Risotto a l’ail des ours et escargots.
Well he translated it as bear and snail risotto with garlic, put me right off me dinner he did.
Three of us had chicken and he had kidneys. Was really nice meal and good company,

Thanks Jud, I will be a sales office manager for a textiles sample book manufacturer. They are a family owned business, 125 years old, and it sounds like it is going to be a good opportunity.

I hope you can get your toe sorted, I broke three toes playing ice hockey, not a nice thing to have happen. Never realised how much you use your toes!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12597 comments Benjamin wrote: "Grief, Desley, hope they manage to see you sooner rather than later."

Fortunately, the very nice lady from Mediscan rang me while I was in my meeting to say she had had the referral through, and she could get me in on Mon!! When I first spoke to her, she said they had hundreds of referrals a day and gave me a direct number, I thought that was really good of her. Went to the retail park, discovered our local Range has increased things like toiletries, so came back with sun lotion and stuff!! Got to Aldi to find a sign warning that the cash machines were acting up, so was very glad I'd bought stuff for my neighbour at the co-op last night and she'd given me cash, so I had £10 to buy my shopping!! Started raining on the way home, luckily stopped enough to get the shopping in, we've had intermittent rain and thunder since, but still stuffy.

Sounds interesting Lindsay. I do remember the podiatrist asking something about how long after injuring myself I had my x-ray Jud, I can't remember whether something did or didn't show after 10 days. I never realised how often you used your left foot first, putting your weight on it till I injured it Lindsay!! Interesting plant LA

Glad to hear it - that's not too long at all!

Morning, everyone. It's overcast here yet somehow too warm, which feels like the worst of both worlds.

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Good morning, it’s overcast here too. There’s been some awful storms and flooding in France in the north and east. Weather not the usual here but nothing like that.
He’s just come back from dog walking complaining about the awful strong smell of fox pee, must be on the dogs, please give them a sponge down. So I did, we’re all outside now and hes saying that smell is following him about. Logic says it’s him that has walked through fox pee. Hehehehe

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12597 comments Morning, struggled to get to sleep due to the heat, woke up feeling as though I could do with longer in bed, but it is still stuffy, so got up. Got some housework and errands to do, and fortunately while talking to a friend yesterday she apologised for the state of the house, which puzzled me till I remembered I have to go and feed her cats at tea time!!

Yes, that's how it feels here Benjamin. Silly OH Lynne! Glad you haven't been affected by flooding.

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments He’s just inhaled deeply and said he can smell fox. Is it you he says. He’s going to need first aid if he continues like this all day.

My wife let me sleep in today!!! it was great.

I hope you can sort your foot Desley!

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Push him into the bath, Lynne. Your choice about filling it with water first.

Dave and I have spent the morning doing the final flat sort (I hope it's the last!).

Would be so much easier if everything was going or staying. Having so many piles of stuff is horrendous.

Now I'm tired, hungry and extremely grumpy.

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments I’ll let him finish painting the railings before I damage him😀

Will Once (willonce) | 3772 comments Good morning all. Spent an enjoyable evening watching my nephew being Paul Simon in the Simon and Garfunkel Story.

Great fun and I'm not just saying that because I'm biased!

message 5236: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Morning. Middle of.

No wonder you enjoyed it, Will. Our granddaught (13) has just landed the leading part with their local amdram group. Play to be staged in October so we're going for that! She always seems a quiet kind of gal until you put her on a stage and she goes off like a firework!

Bit of writing this morning then we're (I'm) planning a garden centre trip for a few striking perennials. I have a big glazed pot (with a dragon on) which I want to make into a 'mini garden'. Lord knows why when I've got two massive maxi gardens already! I'll put it by the front door. I have a couple of things already growing that I can split for the big pot, but I want something flowering and something tall. You know the kind of thing. Something scented, maybe.

Gardening this afternoon.

Have a good day, all.

Lindsay (kiwi365) | 3672 comments Evening all,

Spent most of the afternoon in my woodshed with my Father in law getting things setup and playing with the lathe. It was great.

Hope everyone else has had a good Saturday?

Congrats Will's nephew and Kath's granddaughter.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12597 comments Was quite stiff today, so alternated between housework and watching TV, then my neighbour came back from Cleveley's and wanted to go to a nearby retail park, which I agreed to go to her with, got some clothes from Asda, then we went to a different retail park for Costa!! Annoyingly the reason I didn't go with her for a meal was because we always go to the same place and they never change the menu, or add vegi specials - today however, they had a new menu and some things I'd have liked to try. I'll go next time.

Glad you had a good day Lindsay

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments I’m out for lunch as well, and tomorrow with the ladies who lunch so no cooking/washing up two days on the bounce. Oh I forgot I’ll have to do his on Monday before I get an exit permit 🙄

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12597 comments Morning all, no lie in again, but we have cloudless skies, so not too bothered - yesterday it said a 60% chance of rain, now done to 20%. Plan is to rush round doing the housework this morning, then if it stays nice, sit outside reading. My foot swelling was definitely the heat, I did 1k more steps yesterday and it was just slightly throbbing. We are on tarts and jersey potatoes for tea.

Hope you enjoy brunch Patti, and you enjoy your lunch Lynne.

message 5245: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Morning, all. Very muggy here. We're off out for lunch too. It's catching.
Got another big trough to plant up this aft. I wasn't half stiff last night from lugging a big bag of compost and bobbing up and down to plant up the tubs. If I don't plant them in situ they're too heavy to move so I have to do the bobbing bit.

Jim | 21811 comments gorgeous day here, late back from church, too much drinking coffee and chatting :-)

message 5247: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Gorgeous cloudless sky now. Only 4.5 hour brunch. Shocking. We're losing our touch. Shouldn't have been been home before dark!
Dave's flat on his back on the couch. Lightweight, he is.

I'm thinking of starting the newest (and last) Ruth Rendell that I've got lined up on my kindle. Reckon if I do, I'll be snoring louder than Dave in ten minutes...

message 5248: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Update on Dave's father.

He's booked for a colonoscopy in three weeks. From my understanding, that's quite urgent. Having said that, when Dave was ill, he had one within an hour.
That was through private medical care, though.

On the bright side, Dave's father isn't feeling at all ill and isn't in any pain. Not many 91 year olds can say that, I bet.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12597 comments Well, as is my life, my day was entirely different to what I planned - got a text from the Pets at Home Manager at 10 saying the scratch cards were in, if I could arrange collection, so decided as I needed litter, I'd pop over. Unfortunately, when she opened the box, they had sent prizes but no cards!! So now have to wait for them in the post. Decided to pop in the Sainsbury's that is next door and got a half price maxi dress, so not a wasted journey. Got a call from my neighbour when I was halfway home asking if I wanted to meet them at a café I drive past to get home, so said yes - we both pulled up together, not sure we could do that again if we tried!! I was good and we shared the special, but I didn't have cake, even though the rhubarb and custard looked delicious. Fortunately it was still warm enough to get an hour sat outside reading when we got back. Just need to muster up inclination to do the washing up now.

Wow, that is a long brunch Patti!! Fingers crossed for Dave's dad, I'm not sure if that is quick or not, glad he isn't feeling ill, hope I can say that at his age!!

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments We managed 3 hours, lovely food good company, and I slept until tea time. I could get used to that routine. It’s raining hard now, I don’t know where that came from as it was cloudless and sunny earlier.
