Amazing what makes the newsYesterday in Barrow rail services were stopped for twelve hours because they found the body of a murder victim next to the track.
But obviously it didn't happen in London so it didn't happen

That's horrid!
Way to suck the joy outa GL's post.

Jim - sad to say but single murders (as opposed to mass killings) usually don't make the national news these days. There were 571 homicides in the last full year that we have figures for (2015-16). That's more than one a day. They usually go unreported on the national news but are picked up on local news.
I don't think it has anything to do with London.
"The Pentagon accidentally retweets call for Trump to resign" (BBC)You really don't have to make it up! rofl
Thanks Benjamin, it should be fun. I've been before but going with a group this time which will be good. Just got to get through the traffic on the bus to town first! I imagine there'll be a bit of a larger police presence this year, don't remember that many last time.
So glad it's Friday, felt lightheaded and sick for the last half hour at work. Contemplating housework. My neighbour has managed to get some donations for our chocolate tombola, which cheered me up Great pic GL. Didn't realise there were that many murders Will! That's hilarious Tim
Will wrote: "Jim - sad to say but single murders (as opposed to mass killings) usually don't make the national news these days..."true enough Will, I suspect that because we don't get all that many it seems worse.
Morning, had a bit of a disturbed night sleep, didn't want to get up. When I woke up the first time (about 12.30 ironically!), I looked at my phone and got a twinge in my eye, drops get reduced today too. Boring day of housework.
Drizzly here. Feels like it's late evening.Got a coconut cake in the oven and Cornish pastie filling in the slow cooker.
I'd like to put the telly on but Dave is busy watching videos of his kids explaining fractions.
I'm quite impressed with them. Not surprised, though. Dave is an exemplary teacher.
Morning all! Add me to the unintentionally early risers - hope at least some of you managed to get back to sleep
Good morning. OH made me laugh, he got to the airport nice and early as our lovely neighbours took him so he didn’t have to catch 2 buses. He’d bought fresh bread from the baker and made a filled baguette for lunch but they wouldn’t let him take it airside so he ate it. Like a kids on a picnic. If I’m travelling I usually eat all mine before lunchtime too. I’m a sad soul, I’ve just bought myself a cordless vacuum cleaner for the quick pick ups and I’m ridiculously pleased with it.
I've been wanting one of those cordless handheld vacuums for years. I had one in Canada and it was fab. One day, when we settle somewhere...
Wouldn't let him take it airside? That's bollacks. We always carry travelling sandwiches for Dave.
I've never had an issue carrying food while travelling, pain about the drinks though. What kind of cordless?

Ouch!
I’m surprised about his sandwich airside too. Perhaps it looked so nice if it was confiscated some jobsworth could eat it. I cut my finger to the bone with one of those peelers like a razor. It scares the doodah out of me now as I could see all the tendons and my knuckle. I put my specs on and pay a lot of attention when I peel veg now.
I got a Dyson animal on their site on a Black Friday offer. I‘ve got a big Dyson for all the big carpet clean but it’s really not easy to use on the stairs. I knock paint off if I’m not careful and it’s heavy. It’s got good accessories but I’ve got more from my little Dyson and they fit as well so I’m really happy, I had a few extras on an offer last time like soft cornice brushes and that’s much easier. Husband often says am I knocking the dust off as I find that big one so hard to handle.
My in laws got rid of their dyson years ago as it was lifting the carpet off the floor and stretching it. I tried to explain that it had different settings. I also spent a couple years trying to get them to understand that paying for cable meant they could get more channels if they used the other remote...
Just got back from helping with our church winter fair. Spent from twelve till five on my feet setting up tables, helping people get stuff in for their stalls, making teas and coffees, carrying teas and coffees, taking down tables, getting rid of stall holdersshattered
Time to get your feet up in front of the fire with a hot cuppa and your kindle, Jim. You've earned it.
I’ll never forget my ma in law bringing me a carrier bag full of fallen apples from her garden. She also peeled them cutting her finger quite badly. The bowlful of apples were chucked seconds after daughter turned green. She was really cross with us both. Funny that no one fancied apple pie for months,
Patti (baconater) wrote: "Time to get your feet up in front of the fire with a hot cuppa and your kindle, Jim. You've earned it."next job is phoning all those people who won the raffle and left their phone number on the tickets.
A lot of these were the toddler mums who bought a lot of tickets at toddler group but who weren't really expected to turn up at the fair.
Although a surprisingly large number of them did, they were drafted to running stalls etc

Hope it raised a lot of money. I started doing the admin for our buy a brick campaign, its goingto be way more time consuming than I imagined when I agreed to it!
Fundraisers are exhausting. Usually an afternoon tea wipes out an entire day for me, what with setting up and then clearing. And then delivering raffle prizes... should probably learn to delegate better! But I don't like to ask people to do things I wouldn't do myself :)Hope your finger isn't too sore Patti. I had a half inch skelf in my thumb today which was such a relief to remove when I got home!

somewhat amusingly I met the lass who did most of the organising in our Indian takeaway, she had decided she'd done enough today, at about the same time lady wife and I decided we had :-)
Desley (Cat fosterer) wrote: "Hope it raised a lot of money. I started doing the admin for our buy a brick campaign, its going to be way more time consuming than I imagined when I agreed to it!..."yes, about £500 which is better than for some years
We had a really good turnout, plenty of people though the door, (130 plus kids?) with stallholders happy at their sales and everybody enjoying it :-)
In all seriousness, it might be an idea to have a thread for ideas for how these things might be done :-)
Yep, up at stupid o'clock again.Thread sounds a good idea, Jim. We've so many groupites involved in fundraising.
In expat circles, you frequently see drivers and nannies personing stalls while mum is off being botoxed or whatever.
Wondering how long I should leave the bandage on my finger before I try replacing it.Don't want to make it bleed again.
It's not sore at all.
If it's clean and not infected, leave it alone until you think you can get a clean bandage on without disturbing the healing. If you do change the bandage, don't try to do too much cleaning - you might open it up again.
If it's at all iffy, see a doctor.
Thanks Alicia. I think you're right. I'll leave this bandage on for a couple days.We cleaned it well and put antibiotic unguent on it before we wrapped it yesterday.
I'm glad I was cutting already washed potatoes rather than raw meat.
Lots like another grey day in store.
I'm looking forward to Christmas and enjoying all the Welsh sunshine.
:/
Sun is breaking through, yay!I was all enthusiastic earlier and went shopping at the dot of 8 when the supermarket opens.
Now I feel like I'm coming down with the flu, dammit. I really hope not.

that's where I've been doing it wrong.
Although obviously I don't need botox
I still have my boyish good looks
Morning all, have woken up every 2 hours! The rescue Lucy is from are having their christmas fair today, need to go, then do some errands and food shopping on the way home. Still some housework to do, plus the voluntary stuff. Got a sore throat but eye not as sore as 3amDefinitely good idea Jim, one of the reasons I'm going to the fair is for tombola advice, years since I've done one. Glad you raised a decent amount. I'd leave it a couple of days Patti. Hope you aren't coming down with the flu though.
Morning! Must get back into the book I was writing before I stopped off to do a shed-load of beta and proof reading. At least, read it through so far. From Wednesday, with daughter-in-law due to be in hospital for a fortnight, I shall get precious little writing done so I might try to get a bit in the bank now.Have a lovely Sunday each.
Morning all!Patti and Desley - hope you both feel better.
I need to get back to writing too, if the puppy will allow me.
Good morning, he got home safe and sound last night. He was very complimentary about Bristol Airport, lovely and clean and very customer friendly staff. Complete contrast to Luton. He’s just washing the jet fuel and motorway sludge off his car so back to normal with a bump. What sort of puppy Benjamin? Mine went hooligan when he came home. As he now weighs 80 plus pounds it’s quite a sight. I didn’t move out of his way fast enough and I’ve got an egg sized lump and huge bruise on my shin. Ouch
Patti (baconater) wrote: "Now I feel like I'm coming down with the flu, dammit. I really hope not."Time to throw in some extra Vit. C and some zinc - maybe you can shorten it? Seems to work for me that way. I don't think it can hurt.
Supposedly the zinc keeps retrovirals from replicating (read that somewhere recently).
