Oh Ang thanks for sharing this. I wish I had a teacher like you maybe then reading wouldn't have been a chore but a joy much earlier in my life.
I love that story :)

Karen I LOVE that first day of school story thanks for sharing.

I also remember vividly the small library you almost single-handedly booked with some help from your friends. I remember I sent several boxes of children's books to that library donated from one of my library branches.

Thanks for being one of my oldest and staunchest supporters.
You and the members here and in my very large e-reading family make what I do so rewarding.
That goes to all of you here too!!!!! :) xoxo <3

Karen Laird (shadetreebookreviews) | 228 comments thanks Deb. Yes I was so grateful for you and several other commrades in our group sending boxes of books from a list to fill in the gaps. BTW, the new library building is up. they are still working slowly on finishing out the inside.
I t is the reading and sharing and living these books together that makes a book more than just another tomb on the shelf.
Here, withe the author, we discover the living souls of the characters and sometimes the author sees a new side to one of them, too. lol. What a joy

Lisa, I love to read and have been reading since I was about 4 years old. It may have been reading with a lot of, 'Mom, what's this word?' thrown in, but I distinctly remember the Christmas with 6 Nancy Drew books waiting for me - that was the happiest Christmas ever! And yes, I relate most strongly to Jenna, but I'm not sure it's completely related to reading. Although if it's true that reading = introvert, then - yes. I've always felt like a fish out of water, or a third wheel, or - fill in your favorite metaphor - and Jenna feels like a kindred spirit.

Lisa Higgins | 101 comments Karen -- What a gift you've given to all the folks who benefit from your generosity -- and what a wonderful way to pay forward your love of reading.

Now that's a *true-blue* random act of kindness!

Karen Laird (shadetreebookreviews) | 228 comments Thank you Lisa. I never thought of it as an act of Kindness, but more of finding a home for my dearest friends where they would continue to be loved and appreciated. The true acts is kindness were my friends in General Fiction who scrounged and searched and found me books in certain subjects and for certain age levels. Theey even got their libraries and friends involved. one dear author friend of mine who writes in a genre that I thought would be especially appealing to the folk in Pocahontas even sent me a complete set of his books (autographed) for them to shelve or use to fund raise.
Whether little or big, it is where the heart is that counts. For me, watching the librarian open those boxes and see the tears course down her face was all the recompence I needed.

Karen Laird (shadetreebookreviews) | 228 comments @ Susan, RV living is wonderful and I have seen those mini libraries scattered everywhere: hotel lobbies, hospital waiting rooms, small country stores in out of way places.
Oh, and to see a camper sitting and reading is fair game to strike up a what are you reading conversation. But I like the idea of a mini boojk club

Speaking of out of the way libraries, as most of you know I get about 15 books/week from publishers hoping I'll advertise them on my blog with a review or author interview. So my dilemma you can see already :). I was talking with my hairdresser one day who is also an avid reader and she had some unused space and shelves in her salon.
That's right most of my books go to her, she's also added some and her other patrons do too. So now she has a lending library right in her salon :)
Thanks for sharing all your stories

Karen Laird (shadetreebookreviews) | 228 comments love it , Deb. I couldn't think of a better place for a lending library. you Wil have to post a pic on your blog.
