Shreyonti Chakraborty | 89 comments I need someone to help me write a blurb of my novel 'The Burden of Distorted Memories'. Of course, I want it to be the kind of book jacket blurb that'll grab people's attention. So far I have this:

Anushka Ganguly is a funny, interesting girl with a passion for drawing, writing and all things which scream ‘creative.’ Raised in a happy household by a supportive mother and a father who happens to be one of the most successful doctors in the city, Anushka dreams of becoming a designer of some sort when she grows up. She also hopes to fall in love with a handsome boy and marry her first love.

Anushka Ganguly’s life story is completely derailed and set upon a new track the day her mother succumbs to illness. It doesn’t help that her high-school crush breaks her heart in more ways than one. Now that she’s out of high school, she’s determined to start a new life in college in the wild city of Kolkata. Little does she realize that the city is a Pandora’s box of craziness. Her roommates discuss (of all things) homeopathy and childbirth, her best (and only) new friend is a future alcoholic and she’s actually having conversations with a mouse that lives in her room. The culture, the narrow lanes and sometimes narrower mentalities─ Anushka’s ready to embrace it all and get her life back on track, up until the day the most high-profile rape case of the decade stealthily invades her new life and threatens to tip Anushka’s balance between past and present.

Please help me by giving comments below. The most important question here is: DOES THIS BLURB MAKE YOU WANT TO READ THE BOOK?

Shadow (shadowfrost13) | 4 comments I'd say that's an excellent blurb. Definitely has me interested as a reader.

The only criticism is that maybe it's a bit choppy. But other than that, I don't see anything to criticize. It's extremely intriguing but doesn't give away too much. It put plenty of questions into my head, and if the book is written as well as the blurb, I'm expecting it to be something I wouldn't be able to put down until I've finished.

Rod Baker | 119 comments Not so much, it seems a bit disjointed, a bunch of disparate issues with no common thread running through.
What does Amushka want? "Life back on track" is too vague...if we knew, maybe that could be the connecting thread and pull the reader into the story...we all want something, what does she want?

good luck.
