Hagrid is one of my favorite characters too!

The thought of the hat being able to read my messed up mind freaks me out. I wouldn't be extremely worried about what house I'm in as I'm not really loyal to a particular house.

Also can I just say that Neville's scene with his parents is one of the saddest parts of the book. Like all the others sad ones like (view spoiler)[ Sirius death, Dobby's death etc are really sad. But they end. Neville will face his parents illness for the rest of his life.(view spoiler)[

I have been wanting to re-read this for a while, so I was really happy when this buddy read thread was made! I haven't read this series since they came out. So far the first book has held up. I love Harry Potter's character. I always felt bad that he has to live with the Dursleys, but at least they are entertaining to read about with all their ridiculousness. I like how Draco is the reason that Harry got to join the Quidditch team. Being obnoxious to Harry obviously backfired! I wish that there was at least one nice person in Slytherin. I forgot how good the Harry Potter books are. I probably haven't read this book in over ten years. I love reading about the magic they use and the friendship that Harry forms his first year. Chapter 2 - Dobby is honestly the worst in this chapter. Harry is just trying to stay out of trouble long enough to go back to school, and Dobby is trying to sabotage him.

Chapter 4 - Knockturn Alley, although not the place Harry wanted to end up in, is still fun to read about. I like seeing both sides of the wizarding world. Also, Draco should try spending less time complaining and more time improving his own skills. (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 11 - Awww I hate how people are starting to think that Harry had something to do with students getting petrified. He keeps trying to make things right, but ends up being in the wrong place at the wrong time and making things worse.

Chapter 12 - I couldn't help but think about the Polyjuice Potion scenes from the movie. It is so ridiculous and fantastic. Too bad Hermoine got turned into a cat person, though. (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 15 - Ugh those giant spiders gross me out. I don't mind spiders all that much, but giant ones are where I draw the line.

Chapter 16 - Lockhart was even worse than I remembered. I forgot that he had planned on using a memory charm on Ron and Harry. Good thing Ron's wand was broken!

Chapter 18 - Draco and Lucius Malfoy are the worst! They were honestly worse than Tom Riddle in this book. Lucius planting the book in Ginny's pile, so that all of this could happen is terrible. Also, the fact that they can't prove that he did anything wrong is maddening! (hide spoiler)]

ok, were giving this reread another whirl, this time with the illustrated edition and the audiobook! I love harry potter but every time I try to reread, I stop after the second one and end up having to restart out of stubbornness 😂 love the story as much as always, to the point of finishing sentences in my head, but I really want to make the effort to make it through the whole series this time, which I haven't done for almost a decade!
