the illustrations belong to the book/story?
I mean. they're nice, but more like patterns, so I guess unessential.
Ok, I'm not sure if we would count them (and worldcat isn't helpful either because having only 460 pages) I would assume they are counted but would wait if another librarian has an oppinion on that.

When you say patterns, do you mean like a floral background sort of thing, or something like a knitting pattern? (Pretty sure you mean the first, but want to verify.)
Amazon UK has a look inside for the paperback where page 466 is included.
ah that looks like star constellations like they are also used throughout the book at some places (according to the look inside)

465 pages (acknowledgements on p 465, then three empty pages of illustrations, so not sure how to count. Amazon says 480 for the same ISBN.)
