Going to a bookfair and weekend vacation tomorrow. This is my September tally:10 books
6118 pages
78.4 points
Woohoo, this is the most I read since February! :D
Yeah, nice tally Petrik! Great job :)I wrapped up your September on the spreadsheet. Have fun on your vacation :D
Great tally, Petrik! You're going on vacation again? I'm jelaous haha ;) Have a great weekend!I think I've never managed to read more than 6000 pages so far this year. But then again, reading is not a race, is it?

yay thank you! October is our last month together on this group right?? It will be sad!

Thanks, Bea! Haha not exactly a vacation. I'm in a long distance relationship so I need to make a visit once in a while. xD It's only for the weekend. Once I'm back, I'll finish the last two Malazan!
And no, reading is not a race. I'm actually dumbfounded by anyone who think so.

Haha, that explains it! :D I was just wondering how you can afford going on vacation that often lol
Yeah there are people out there putting a lot of emphasis on how much they are reading instead of how much they are enjoying the books. I started keeping track of how much I read this year because it's fun but there is the danger of comparing oneself with others to much. I try to only compare my own reading months and see if it was a good month for ME and not in comparison to others.
But still I admire the people who manage to read more than I do :)
Exactly that, Bea. The way I see it... it's not worth it. First, it doesn't get me anything other than a self imaginary orgasm that no one cares about. Second, my reading experience will be so ruined if I read for the purpose of racing.Plus, if I want to compete, I guarantee there's always someone who read faster than me no matter how hard I try. I actually know someone on Goodreads who read 450+ novels already by this month. Good luck trying to beat that xD
I can only go through a lot of pages cuz i listen to audiobooks all day during my boring job. But i have no problem pausing or rewinding if I'm working on something complicated. I want to get everything I can out of a book instead of just racing through it. That said my point numbers are going to be lower this month because 1) I've basically stopped keeping up with my challenges and 2) I've found a new show on Netflix that i started binging and it's cut into my before bed reading.
@Diana: I always envy those who can do audiobook. It's such a great way to get more reading done! 1. It's October, our last month of the challenge!! I don't think I'm joining next year though. I love the cover and bingo challenge but the team battle for points with buddy reads turns out to be not my thing. Not that I ever bother with it, but I just want more 'freedom' in mind. I'll steal the excel format and still do the cover and bingo challenge though! :D
2. and your reason number 2... That's a valid reason. :D
Petrik wrote: "@Diana: I always envy those who can do audiobook. It's such a great way to get more reading done! 1. It's October, our last month of the challenge!! I don't think I'm joining next year though. I ..."
It took me a long time to train my brain to audiobooks. I started a few years ago and would only listen to easy, silly paranormal fantasy books. I've gone a long way in regards to retaining audio information since then.
I'm still going to do the br challenge next year but for my future team, expect my points to go way down. I'm not going to do challenges so no challenge points and I way overdid myself on the reading at the beginning of the year. I burnt myself out. I've slowed down a lot and like this current pace way more.

I can't do audiobooks either, I just can't concentrate on them. Also actually reading makes it easier for me to look up words I don't know.
I fell into the GR-trap of stressing myself out a bit but am currently trying to be more relaxed about my reading habits.
I'm planning to do next year's challenge but my points will probably go down as well. I have two major exams next year which will take a lot of time.
Diana Stormblessed wrote: "2) I've found a new show on Netflix that i started binging and it's cut into my before bed reading."Ooh, what show, Diana? There are several shows on Netflix that I want to check out. I still need to watch the most recent season of Peaky Blinders and I just learned that Richard Madden's (Rob Stark) series, Bodyguard, will be coming to Netflix at the end of October and I want to check that one out because...he of the pretty eyes.
I'm with everyone on slowing down my reading pace and allowing myself to savor and enjoy what I'm reading. I've been averaging only about two BRs a month for the past few months and I like the freedom that gives me read other books that I'd been putting off. I'll still be doing the group competition next year but keeping my current, slower pace, and will probably just stick to the Book Cover challenge.
I purposely never even do the Goodreads yearly challenges, because I don't want to turn experiences into numbers. It just seems like unhealthy reading to me. Extrinsic motivators can actually damage that intrinsic pleasure. It's tricky because I do like to log and keep track of the books I've read, but the very act of looking at my stats exerts a pressure of its own. However, I have set private goals for myself before, to read more books in Japanese, or to read more diverse books, or classics, or non-fiction. If I wanted to do a real "challenge" I might do a Diversity Challenge to broaden the type of books I read.
I do plan on participating in the challenge next year, but simply as a way to connect in the group. I like seeing what other people are reading, and to be able to share the books that aren't necessarily buddy reads. It's so nice having a space to chat as a team. (^_^)
Diana Stormblessed wrote: "I can only go through a lot of pages cuz i listen to audiobooks all day during my boring job. But i have no problem pausing or rewinding if I'm working on something complicated. I want to get every..."Argh, so your new job is boring? :'(
It's good that you're able to listen to audiobooks though. I remember you were afraid you wouldn't be able to do that anymore.

We'll be able do indulge in non-BR non-challenge spurt-of-the-moment reads without feeling guilty though xD
I'm the same as a lot of people, I'll slow down on the crazy BR-schedule and challenges next year. If anything, I'm joining because I love our camaraderie here, and also.... Spreadsheet. I need to tend to my spreadsheet empire, dammit! :p

I was afraid I wouldn't be able to keep up since English isn't my first langage but I'm OK :O
I'm mostly sticking to PNR/Urban Fantasy, I'm still not able to retain enough informations to do (complicated) epic fantasy in audio.
Empress Virginie wrote: "If anything, I'm joining because I love our camaraderie here, and also.... Spreadsheet. I need to tend to my spreadsheet empire, dammit! :p "Yes! I admit I also am tempted by having a beautiful colorful spreadsheet to revel in! Plus there're so many data now! Average pages per day!? I admit it's now lurking in the back of my head as the "score to beat."

The Good Place. I guess it's in it's 4th season but I never even heard of it until last week. I like comedies that take me away from life.

A diversity challenge is a great idea! I'd like to get more into non-fiction for example but always find it hard to motivate myself.
Diana, Miche, do you want to read Alcatraz #4 with me over the week-end? I'm in the mood for some silliness :p
September Tally8 books + 1DNF
2681 pages
36.2 points
Comparatively humble, but more than I've read all year. I'm glad to be picking up books again. :)

8 books a month is not bad at all, it's more than a lot of people read the whole year! GR tends to distort one's perspective.

Good job Melissa and Zaara! My September totals are a little skewed since I have 2 books started and almost finished but since I won't finish them in time they won't count.
Pages: 5,803
Books (including short stories): 18
Points: 98.4 I lost some points because I couldn't keep up with my challenges
Great reading everyone!@Zaaragorn Yeah I'm afraid Anna Karinina probably isn't going to happen right now. Now that I'm back on the fantasy train I'm going to ride that for a while. Errr, or at least mythic adventures? I just picked up Lord of the Silver Bow. I've seen Margret recommend it so many times that it has been inexorably demanding my attention.
