Scoresheet updated. Good job!
Woohoo! Finally finished Kings of the Wyld and Sufficiently Advanced Magic. I've been reading those all month.
I DNFd Beautiful Beast :(I thought I was in the mood for a paranormal romance, but no! Not this one! The story seemed promising, but with random masturbation passages pretty much straight away (and not even sexy ones!) I was over it pretty quickly for me! So unsexy!
Anyway, I am staying away from paranormal romance, unless you Raiders can recommend some really good ones... Because, well, I trust you guys!
I have started A Crown of Swords by the way ;)
Great job, Diana! I've been stretching reads all month too, instead of tackling them one after the other :p

Ergh, unsexy masturbation scenes? 😨
I'm barely starting to read paranormal romance so I don't have a lot of recommendations. I read Georgina Kincaid (starting with Succubus Blues) with Diana recently, and we both really liked it :)

I know, right!

Can't help you there, sorry. I avoid PNR like the plague.
Virginie wrote: "Lola wrote: "I DNFd Beautiful Beast :(I thought I was in the mood for a paranormal romance, but no! Not this one! The story seemed promising, but with random masturbation passages..."
Yes, highly recommend Succubus Blues, or Darkfever. Depends on how much romance you like in your story. I love PNR but my fav PNR books tend to be more action with the side of romance. Kate Daniels kind of loosely fits in there, too.

I never felt drawn towards PNR...glad I'm not the only one 😅
Also good job!

I have read one or two decent ones, but most are def not for me!
Diana Stormblessed wrote: "highly recommend Succubus Blues, or Darkfever. Depends on how much romance you like in your story. Diana Stormblessed wrote: "Yes, highly recommend Succubus Blues, or Darkfever. Depends on how much romance you like in your story. I love PNR but my fav PNR books tend to be more action with the side of romance. Kate Daniels kind of loosely fits in there, too."I'd classify all of those as Urban Fantasy. From what I understand, PNR typically features a different couple in each book though all the books are set in the same world, there is characters cross-over (i.e. the featured couple in one book will show up as side characters in other books), and the world building is usually very much in the background because the main focus is the romance and the obstacles to it.
UF can, and often does, have a romantic pairing but it's usually more of a slow burn taking several books to fully bloom. Tthe main couple does not change from book to book and the focus is really on the world building and the main plot which usually involves the hero/heroine battling the forces of evil to save the world. The romance is a side plot only.
Basically, if you take the romance out of a PNR book you're left with very little story and a thin plot. If you take the romance out of an UF book, you still have a solid plot (or you should have unless it's a really bad book). :-)
I've read UF for years - some of my favorite series are UF. But PNR just doesn't work for me at all.

Oh, thanks for the explanation, Veronica. Then I don't read PNR, and am coming back to UF after being scared off the genre by Anita Blake (from book 7/8 onward).

The Edge series (which I liked) would be PNR I guess. And BlackDagger Brotherhood (which I didn't).
Virginie wrote: "Oh, thanks for the explanation, Veronica. Then I don't read PNR, and am coming back to UF after being scared off the genre by Anita Blake (from book 7/8 onward)."Man that series did a 180. From awesome to pure garbage.
Virginie wrote: "Thanks Miche! Is the new extension fun? My friends are trying to get me to play but I'm staying strong and resisting their corrupting influence! :p"
I am having a blast, Virginie. I have been playing it with a fun group of friends. :)
My reading should go back to normal in the next couple of weeks. ;)
Niki Hawkes wrote: "We lost Miche to WoW haha. Go on a dungeon raid with a fishing pole for me, k? Haha that still cracks me up."That already happened to a friend of mine, lol.
Petrik wrote: "@miche: I missed you guys, Niki! whyy did you start playing WoW again!?? that's a dangerous addiction!! VERY dangerous! xD"Tell me about it! At least I leveled my main and two alts already. My main is already geared for the raid that will come out next week. I can slow down the gaming now, lol. 😁
Great job, team! You all have been reading some amazing books! I am reading The Cripple God but I took a small break to start Magic Triumphs because I needed more Kate and Curran in my life! 😉
Diana Stormblessed wrote: "Thanks for the explanation! I guess all this time I've been reading UF and not realizing it. The Edge series (which I liked) would be PNR I guess. Anita Blake started out as UF but then I don't know what happened to it. lol
Hey Guys,I wanted to apologize for disappearing and ghosting everyone, leaving you in the lurch. Let's just say it has been a bad year, which has resulted in, or at least been compounded by a reading slump. I couldn't fully relax or escape into books with the outside real-life pressures pounding at the door. I left Goodreads entirely for months because of anxiety.
I can't say life has improved, but I was able to finally delve back into fantasy with Sullivan's Riyria Revelations. I had so much fun with it, and it made me wish I could talk about it here with everyone. I missed you all. The squees, the rants, and (often excessively on my part) contemplative analysis.
I'm glad to see the team is doing better (although I find our point score of 6666 rather ominous... haha). I noticed that some people will be starting the Riyria Chronicles in a couple days, which is perfect timing, since I just picked up The Crown Tower. Hope to see you in the threads as I tiptoe back in.
<3
Also: a MUUUUUCH belated thank you to @Zaara for the birthday wishes and the bottle of Moët. It was *kisses fingers and flairs them daintily* Magnifique!

Welcome back! I hope your year starts getting better. I love our score lol. Everyone stop reading! Let's keep it at 6666 forever!
I'm going to be doing Riyria so I'll see you at that buddy read :-)
Welcome back, Melissa! We all have moments when life keeps kicking us and we don't feel like reading; you don't have to apologize. That being said, I'm happy you came back to us :D
Sullivan's Riyria Revelations are amazing IMO! You'll love the Chronicles as well, I think :)
I won't have time for a re-read but I'll hang around the thread! So see you there :D

I hope there are better days coming for you soon.
