Speadsheet Empress isn't enough? ;-)
Thanks, team! Niki Hawkes wrote: "How was it, Veronica? :) I've read a bunch of Sara Douglass, but not that one."
I'm really liking it, Niki. It has a supernatural/spiritual aspect to it with the whole angels vs demons thing (the Archangel Michael has a recurring role and Gabriel makes a cameo) and it involves a twist in Christianity doctrine as we know it. I thought that was going to be the big draw for me but I find I'm really more into the historical piece of it, the setting, the use of real life historical figures - though she does take liberties with some of the dates. For example, Joan of Arc is in the story, which takes place from 1378-1380, even though in real life she wasn't born until 1412. But I'm totally into all the political intrigue between the Lancasters and Richard II. I've ordered the third book in the trilogy so hope to finish that off soon.
Just as a heads up though, this isn't a case where an author creates a progressive-thinking character who is ahead of his time. The MC is a real ass for all of the first book and a good portion of the second book, as seen through modern eyes, but fits right in with the thinking of his time.
I'd never heard of Sara Douglass before and only stumbled across these books at my local used bookstore. I've now also ordered The Wayfarer Redemption to check out some of her other stuff. I like her writing style.

Meh. I'm disappointed. Book #1 was much better.

Same. Did you read my long rant? I have more points to add to it about the ending lol. This one was def subpar.
Not yet, I'll read it when I get home. And will probably compose an answer in my head instead of sleeping tonight xD

I am actually interested in this series now. it is a different perspective and it seems interesting! I am glad you actually pointed this author out!
Haha. I went to my tracker to update it. I'm scared. I'm so over-scheduled, it's ridiculous. How did that happen? :O

You just need better books to keep you company ;-)
Also, I'm one to talk. I'm useless if I get less than 8 hours.

Thanks! That's super helpful - I think that will be all I need in deciding whether or not to read it haha.
Wayfarer is a good read. Slowly paced, but I really like the unconventionality of the series and the characters. Hopefully you'll like it. :)

Niki Hawkes wrote: "Wayfarer is a good read. Slowly paced, but I really like the unconventionality of the series and the characters. Angela told me she loved The Wayfarer Redemption trilogy so that's what prompted me to order the first book.

I remember that I was sitting on my couch after 2am sobbing (I am not exaggerating) while reading the end of that book.
I am glad you enjoyed it, Petrik. :)
P.S.: go to the next book with lower expectations. It is the weakest installment.
