I was surprised by how well planned it was. It's going down as a favorite of mine as well.I'll be looking at Mead's other books from now on :)
I abandoned Sookie around book 5 or 6. I tried Harris' new series with Midnight Crossroad but... Well... You know how that went ^_^"
And finally I can claim a bit of progress actually. Title: The Desert Spear

Challenge? Y (Incomplete series and I need to check if it applies for another one)

Challenge? Y (Incomplete series and maybe something else).
The whole reason I am splitting To Green Angel Tower is that the second half will be done as a buddy read so I wanted to avoid the cheat of extending it to both parts!
Age of war nearing the end - hopefully at the end of today. After that, I expect to "slow" down mostly because I am trying to catch up no the Malazan world with Memories of Ice and House of Chains - albeit I will add a second book to make the reading less obsessed!
It is completely worth it. I find it is a different fantasy story - demons being these scary creatures that roam freely around the world at night which implies few people travel in the world and those who do are in an incredibly dangerous line of business. It becomes more cliche-y in matters of the chosen one but it is twisted around making it a bit less common.
I just find the world building and the emotional range of the characters particularly well put together. I am hoping for a lot more fight in the next books though.
Also if I recall correctly, also Petrik praised the series! This reviews are certainly more insightful than mine!
Good job Aristea! I'll probably be joining you for the 3rd book and beyond. I abandoned the series, but it was just compelling enough for me to want to see how it comes together apparently because I've been still thinking about it.
Thanks for the insight, Aristea. I have a challenge for another group to read all past monthly picks, and the Warded Man is one of them. I usually go in those books/series completely blind x)
It’s probably the best way to get into series! I tend to do too much research - especially lately - while I should just trust my gut feeling!
I thought I was the only one who preferred audiobooks - better that audiobooks allow me to maintain the pace and I can make progress also while exercising and/or driving!
Aristea wrote: "I thought I was the only one who preferred audiobooks - better that audiobooks allow me to maintain the pace and I can make progress also while exercising and/or driving!"I "read" almost everything on audio now. I love being able to multitask.
Yeah I have maybe 15 min a day to sit and read a physical book. Audiobooks means I have access 24/7. I love them.

As awesome as ever. Sorry I haven't been participating a lot in this group and reading. I've been super busy! Great job for everyone at the group though! :D
Thank you, Virginie! Also, did you know that Tokyo Ghoul:Re just ended too! The series is now finished!!
Petrik wrote: "Thank you, Virginie! Also, did you know that Tokyo Ghoul:Re just ended too! The series is now finished!!"Oh, really? Nice!!!
I was waiting for it to be finished to read it. My poor little heart can't handle those cliffhangers :p
I would love a top 3 recommendation of Manga series from everyone who likes them. :) I don't have a preference on finished or unfinished.
Niki Hawkes wrote: "I would love a top 3 recommendation of Manga series from everyone who likes them. :) I don't have a preference on finished or unfinished."For me: One Piece, My Hero Academia and Bleach.
Saint Seiya is another great work.
I realize this categorizes my reading tastes as a teenage boy. I will live with this knowledge!
Heeeeh, it's quite difficult... So I'm going to shamelessly cheat and give more than 3 x)In addition to the ones Aristea mentioned, I'd add (on the top of my head):
- finished: Tokyo Ghoul (if you're not afraid of gory scenes), Death Note (psychological game of mouse and cat between two genius) and Assassination Classroom (very fun!)
- unfinished: Yona of the Dawn (great character development), Noragami (an idiotic reaper God wearing lame sweat pants xD) and The Ancient Magus' Bride
Nice! Do you all buy each one or is there an online resource I haven't found yet. I kind of want to buy anything I start, but I can't justify $10 a piece for something I'm essentially dabbling in lol.

If you google My Hero Academia manga online, you will have a resource for instance.
I did not find the identical resource for One Piece.
Bleach actually is fully fleshed in the anime (actually the anime adds to the manga - and it should be viz.com which I think is a properly license resource).
I hope this helps!
There's plenty of website where you can read fan translations of the mangas (https://mangapark.me and http://fanfox.net for example). It's also the only way to read the latest chapters as they're being released weekly (usually) in magazines in Japan, then published in volumes when there's enough material to... Well, fill an entire volume. It's only at that moment that the publishers do the translating work.
Those websites are not exactly legal but you can read a few chapters and see if you like the art/story before buying that way.
I'm mostly borrowing from my library. It has a great collection and I enjoy reading mangas/graphic-novels the most with physical books.
Boy, today is looooong. I went to a bar yesterday to watch France - Belgium with some co-workers. We had a few drinks during the game. Then more to celebrate our team's victory.Went home at 3 a.m. Woke up at 6 a.m. for work. I'm dying right now...

I miss being in my 20s and being able to do that. There's no way my body could handle it now.
Iain wrote: "Won't you crash at some point?... Between the sports games lately, a couple reading binges... sounds like you've skipped alot of sleep..."Let's just say today wasn't very productive. Thankfully, my boss, being in his 40's, is even more tired than I am and is shamelessly slacking off today x)
I'll probably go to sleep right after dinner tonight... And fall even more behind schedule with my BRs. Oops.
Few of my manga recommendations! I'll copy paste what I gave to Virgininie. These three are unfinished but still a must read!
Berserk by Kentaro Miura
-Kingdom by Yasuhisa Hara
-Vagabond by Takehiko Inoue
-Attack on Titan by Hajime Isayama
-Boku no Hero Academia by Kohei Horikoshi
-One Piece by Eiichiro Oda
Below are finished Seinen:
-Full Metal Alchemist (Would even be more awesome if yo udecided to watch the anime)
-Death Note by Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata
-Bakuman by same as above
-20th Century Boys by Naoki Urasawa (the creator of Monster)
-Shin Angyo Onshi by Youn In-wan (MUST READ)
-Gantz by Hiroya Oku. (Even better than Red Rising saga)
-Pandora Hearts by Jun Mochizuki (Don't let the pretty drawing and beginning fool you, this is absolutely spectacular storytelling with infinite plot twist)
-Can't Hear, Can't See, But Love. (If you want to cry a million tears. Not gonna lie, this is literally the only series in book form that ever made me cry like a bitch. About a blind man living together with a deaf woman but still love each other.)
-Tokyo Ghoul and Tokyo Ghoul: Re by Sui Ishida
Thank you!! I'm going to put together a shelf with everyone's recommendations. :D
I watched the first couple of episodes of full metal alchemist and that's the main reason I want to give manga a try. :)

It was a great series! I didn't expect to like it that much."
Ditto. It's def one of my favorite light and easy series. But it's a series that's still well thought out and planned, for the most part. Unlike Sookie, which is also a light and easy series, but you can tell no thought or planning went into it and it's mostly 200 pages of filler.
