This sounds interesting!

I survived my first day back to work after my vacation! It was a long day though.
I am going to go jump on my couch with a book now. The withdraw is hard! lol
I started looking around our spreadsheet on our performance and suddenly the competitor in me flared. I really am struggling to carve time out for reading these days - I am doing better than April and May yet far from my best times - and I feel like sleep should be optional now because reading is a priority.
Let's see how much progress I can make here.
As a side note, I realize I fell behind on the Malazan world. I will dedicate my July to catch up and be on time for August. I just love that world and somehow I find it complicated to get into it again.
Yes, apologies for the random rant. I only wished I had a more balance work/life balance!
Getting back to work after vacation is always a tough transition, at least for me. If only I could be independently wealthy....*sigh*Oh well, finished another short book.

I'm quite interested in Tooth and Claw. A fantasy of manners with a dragon society! :)

Your spreadsheet is UTD! Good job :)

I added a little stat to my spreadsheet to help motivate me: the points needed to take rank #3. We're now at 205 points, which is the closest we've been in a while! :D
Read on, Fluffers! ;)

The only competition I perform well is against myself. I try to set an approachable goal per month and I try to focus at going over that goal. Some months are better than others. :)
As long as you are having fun reading, you are winning already. :)

That's about my record... I read 10 books in 7 days once, back in 2013... back then I think I still took 5 day vacations... I was binging the early Dark-Hunter books at the time... when I first started exploring PNR... and this was on my KINDLE... dun-dun-dun...

That is soo cool! And from my perspective you made the best of it. There's something really special about binging a good series or two lol.

I feel the flare too! I realized yesterday that if I read a page or two every time I reached for my phone instead of opening up a random app, I'd make a lot more progress throughout the week. It's a personal mission lol.
You can do it!! :)

I remember days like that too. What's happened to our physical read completion, Iain? I used to physically read 80-100 a year. I should be double that now with audiobooks, but not so much lol.

I've always felt like I got more Kindle reading done in my old apartment... and I dunno why... it became an issue almost immediately after moving... that was 2.5yrs ago now...
My Kindle:Audio spread from 2013-2018
2013 = 354 - 0
2014 = 332 - 43
2015 = 222 - 66

2016 = 84 - 117
2017 = 64 - 137

I read faster than if I listen to audiobooks (I can't do high speed), so I switched my focus back to ebooks. That helped me. :)

Looking at my success this year, speeding up audiobooks has brought my audio pace in line with my old ebook pace... retention varies by how much I like a book, but I usually finish audiobooks, where I would abandon ebooks I don't care for...

lol, but a lovely paperweight it would make.
I did the math, and if I converted the amount of time I spent on goodreads and my phone in general, I could get through at least 100 pages more a day (taken into account just time spent at home... it doubles when I factor work, but it would be harder to read there). That's almost two regular sized books per week!! Add weekends and in rounds it to 900. O_o
ipones really did mark the decline of my reading productivity. I'm kind of working to change my habits a bit because I hate being glued to my phone, but holyshit. #welltheresyourproblem

I can't listen to audio at work and my commute isn't long at the moment, so my audio time is short now. :)

The worst part is the time I waste refreshing things and looking for things to read on my phone, because I check too often to have productive things to do on it... I'm literally wasting my time...

I love audiobooks for some reasons: (i) even when I am simply reading, it paces me, forces me to read; (ii) when I commute, it's good to have the book on; (iii) running has never been as much fun as with a book!
So, I got to a point where I prefer audiobooks to ebooks (or paper books). I love the combination though so that when I cannot listen, I can keep reading and viceversa!
Yeah, audiobooks are my thing now. I might read 1 or 2 physical books a month now. That's it. We're less than 170 points from the next team up. Go team! Closing the gap.
I didn't realize how much you guys were catching up... I think you guys are going to take first place, now that I'm paying attention... I guess you finally gained enough extra team members to stop being perpetually 25% behind...
Blood Eagles have been 100-200pts behind House of Chains for a 2-3 months now...
Would it be stealing your thunder to say it's because Choko is chillin' on the beach this summer?... until April/May, we were neck and neck, and now I'm nearly 200 points ahead...
