I kinda wish they could record the way they read in a day. I'm GENUINELY curious how someone can achieve that much reading in a day while having work, family, social life to attend to. Other than work, I practically only read with very little socializing and this is the maximum amount I get, which believe me in the eye of my non-reader friends I'm already like a walking alphabets.

I know Iain works the night shift at a wearhouse so he listens to audiobooks all night. Choko i believe is retired? Me, I have a really chill job right now so like 85% of my reading is audiobooks at work, or overnight on my kindle when my 3 year old wakes up in the middle of the night and won't let me just put her to bed and sneak back out. But my job is on a limited contract which ends in June, so I'm currently looking for another job, and no way will I be able to listen to audiobooks at a new job like I do now. I'm trying to get all my reading done while I can cuz it's about to hit a wall. :-P

Petrik (petrikleo) | 1546 comments Ah audiobooks... i guess that kinda solves a lot of questions I had! I dont do audio so that's why im so damn confused on how people are able to get so many reading done!! Anyway i get what you're saying. I'm still single right now and I dont plan to have kids for at least 2 more years. I plan to read through all these giant fantasy series before my reading come to a super slow pace! XD

Yes, def read what you can before you have kids. Afterwards most of your reading will be Dr. Suess or Sandra Boynton. And they're cute and all, but when you read the same book Every. Freaking. Night. you kind of wish you could just read your old fantasy books again.

Petrik I think if it were based solely on physical books read you'd be near the top. It seems like you fly through them.

message 1406: by Lena (new)

Lena Books go much faster on audio. I listen 1.25 or 1.5 depending on the narrator. I know Iain listens at 2x. My favorite is listening while reading a physical copy.

You did?... I mostly only check the scoreboard for me and Choko's solo rankings, these days... I've stopped worrying about catching up to Scott's team, as well... they keep edging further ahead...

I had some fun with the fact the group is approaching 1,000,000 pages read, earlier this week...

I was only trying to be informative, not judgemental, in the Rules thread... I originally went in to help Olivia find the most popular edition in the dropdown menu and saw Lena's comments and responded pretty neutrally, I thought...

That Golden Son ending really left no choice. I'm so glad I wasn't reading this as it was being published. That year long wait would've been hell.

I actually listen to new stuff mostly at 1.5x :)

2x is for easy stuff like Urban Fantasy or re-reads... sometimes I crank up from 1.5x to 2x once the world is established and I know the characters... Malazan I listen at 1x, sometimes 1.25x...

I didn't know there was thread stalking to be done until this thread was mentioned over in the other one... I've been pretty lax in reading threads outside of my Buddy Reads the past few weeks, being under the weather as I've been... I'm feeling better now, and I feel like by the time my appointment with the stomach specialist arrives on May 31st, I'll probably be able to just cancel it...

I think the flare-ups are bad dietary habits on my end, really... if I just stick with the changes I've made instead of tempting fate, things should get better and stay better...

Last couple weeks can be summarized as:

1) Green Tea/Banana/Yogurt
2) Rice/Broccoli/Chicken
3) Green Tea/Mashed Potatoes/Broccoli/Chicken

and a lot of water, since I've dropped soda again...

I'm not really planning to cancel, tho... 6 weeks is a long time to wait if the problem returns...

Admittedly, in the beginning I just wanted to read Darrow, Darrow, Darrow and I'd still like more of his POV chapters than the others buuuut things have heated up in the other POV chapters too and I'm stressing. I actually have a knot in my stomach as I'm reading because I'm afraid of what might happen.

I'd love to get a Mustang/Virginia POV. Everyone should just listen to her, like, all the time. lol

I try to pre-fill each month using my plans, like in your thread in GG&G... then I can just check in each time I finish a book and plug in the date for points to be added... sometimes I waste time on books i don't end up reading, but that's pretty rare...

Thanks for your answers, everyone! I found out that I should maybe take a few notes when reading. I never remember the particular thoughts I had when reading... And so I struggle to comment on BRs sometimes.
Of course, it doesn't help that when I do take notes, I can't remember where I put 'em... :p

I started to put them on Goodreads because of the competition. (For the points it gave me....) But I'm much more consistent in continuing the manga series now that I've included those in my challenge so I'll probably keep tracking those with GR :)

I'd love recommendations from you! We seem to have similar tastes in books so I'm sure you'll make me discover great mangas too :)

I usually start at 1.5x and crank it up to 1.7x once I get used to the world/narrator. I don't do complex epic fantasy in audio though. Too many names and such, I end up lost and confused.

I listen to audiobooks during my commute. Can't do it at work though :'(
(I can, however, be on Goodreads regularly :) )
