Petrik (petrikleo) | 1546 comments Thank you, Virginie!! Hahah I'm glad Poppy War made it to your TBR. It's so good i think you'll love it too!

Btw, that Unicorn is so awesome xD

Zaara | 4273 comments You know I'd have NEVER known that the scorecard thread became the new HQ if our Virginie hadn't tipped me the nod. Pretty decent of her.

I'd opted out of the notifications (mine hadn't been working anyway for months and I guess only one of you? truly appreciates how horribly hellish it has become for me to navigate my account) + also (and this the more honest of my truths) bcuz my inferiority copmlex would squeal everytime the numbers whizzed past.

And now all this! I have so much to catch up on...but I just wanted to come here and say I'm all updated for Feb and March and added a hundred odd points.
So yay for that!
I made all my BRs for March save Elantris (which was unavoidable) which I finished reading alone.

Also, someone has been entering some of my books. I'm guessing its Virginie again? Woman's practically an angel...should ship her off to the Vatican too...and they will saint her right after they comclude the beatification of Finbar.
I don't deserve friends like this.
Thank you, Virginie. I'm powerless to do anything good for you from all the way over here but I sincerely wish you will always find helping hands when you most need them.
Still n all...don't you become TOO saintly...I like a little bit of wicked....
;-)))))
*KICK*

Also, this is VERY much after the fact but I wanted to wish our own Mellificent (Melissa) a very happy belated for the 26th. I'm sorry I wasn't here on the day itself, @Sendai.
@Loolee...I always liked you + found your words impactful...right from the day we posted our intros within hours of each other...so similar in format and so different (I then thought) in proclivity.
Now I think we are not so different after all. Heck we even work the same profession.
Of course even then I knew your sensibilities are much the more elegant and your taste the more refined.
I hope your day was wonderful. And your year even more so. I hope you see this, Mel.

Great job on points everyone!!

Welcome to the hub, Zaara. :) Your comment reminds me that I keep meaning to lock and archive the other team thread because it was made redundant with the creation of the spreadsheet. I'm falling behind on my OCD duties.

The first book was still my fav, but this conclusion did the series justice and I'm really happy to have read it. On to Skullsworn!

Niki's random book update: So, I think the 2018 Malazan read was initially my idea. Maybe. But then I got overwhelmed and busy at the beginning of the year and dropped out within a week. However, I'm still itching to start it again, so I think I might try to catch up. It feels too much like I'm missing out lol. Plus I finally have my incomplete series down to something I can manage. It is time.

I did the read of book 1, but I couldn't get into it and I dropped out for book 2. I'd be interested in trying again, but probably not for a few months. I feel like the big series reads come up over and over :-)

They definitely do. I have to remind myself that whenever I feel bad that I've missed one. In some ways, it's good i'm reading this alone because I feel especially sensitive to spoilers and I think there were a lot of them going around the first thread.

I am hoping to finish The Fires of Heaven this week, so that will be a shedload of points at least! ;)

I may slot in Golden Son after that and get another buddy read done if it arrives on time... :)

Ship of Destiny is awesome. Tawny Man is really good too. Rainwild is fucked up bad (for me). But The Fitz and the Fool is super good! :D I hope the last book won't suck, I mean... it's the LAST one!

I actually liked rain wild. She did dragons the way I thought dragons should be done. And the dynamics between all the characters made it feel more immersive and realistic to me. We definitely had different experiences with that one haha.

... I actually wouldn't be surprised if it's not the last one. Fools fate was supposed to be the last one too. My fingers are crossed that she goes on vacation and comes back with a new manuscript (as she did with fool's assassin). A girl can hope.

message 1179: by Petrik (new)

Petrik (petrikleo) | 1546 comments We certainly had a different experience with Rainwilds, I was so infuriated with all the romance in that series. Fool's Fate really did felt like the last one actually! I'm really glad she didn't end it there too. Her writing is seriously at her best in the last trilogy imo!

3/5 stars. A cool portal fantasy that had a lot of really good characters. I'm eager to see where it goes next (it looks like she's going to get even more creative with world building in the second one, which is what I was mainly after).

I know what you mean. It felt more like coming of age characters with raging hormones (and no supervision) than it did romance to me. Unless you're talking about the adults haha. Whatever the case, I just liked the organic feel of the whole thing. Plus the level of exploration into some of my favorite "mysteries" of that world. And the continuation of things from liveship.

Yeah, I'm a fan lol.

I agree with the writing of the last trilogy being her best for sure! Some people had major issues with pacing, but I'm of the opinion that every moment was beautiful and necessary. Such a poignant story. I still remember every detail vividly.

There's a slight lull for me in the first half of Fool's Quest but other than that, nope. This is Hobb at her best imo. I will start Assassin's Fate tonight! Time to end this :')

Wow, you really tore through the series! I'm really happy you're enjoying that last trilogy. Hobb's writing is really good in this one.
I grew up with Fitz & the Fool. Fitz reminiscing on his past is so bittersweet...

Agreed. Hobb's dragons are wonderful. I tried to ignore/skim through the teen angsty romance parts to focus on the revelations about the Elderlings civilization. Rain Wilds ended up as a 'Meh' for me.

@Zaara: The Rainwilds Chronicles is the fourth series in the Realm of the Elderlings universe (by Robin Hobb), after the Farseer trilogy, the Liveship Traders trilogy and the Tawny Man trilogy.

Thank you, Virginie!! Yeah.. I love it the most when Fitz reminisce about his past and how it affect his old life. It's really well written but I think some readers would find that boring. I can't even imagine reading/loving this last trilogy if I'm still in my teenage year tbh.
