Oh, hell Nige, if you need a buddy, I'll commit to a January Buddy Read and delay my planned read of the FDR bio for a few weeks. If "Bread of Angels" is anywhere close to being as good as "Just Kids" I'll be unable to drag out reading it for too long. It'll be a better way to start the New Year of non-fiction reads anyway.
I'll end 2025 with an incredible thorough Nick Drake bio and start 2026 with a Patti Smith memoir.
I like to plan activities and, once I've made the plan, it always takes me a day to process any possible changes in the plan. Hence my new reading plan.
Also, as I have the hardback of "Just Kids" I am not going to wait for the paperback and get a matching hardback set instead. I will buy the Hardback of "Bread of Angels" and let my wife give it to me for Christmas. Merry Christmas to me!
I'm happy to join you boys in January. I still haven't read Just Kids but it sounds like that doesn't matter. Sid gave me a loads of Patti Smith's music though Horses remains a favourite.
Love your idea, Bri, of buying your own Christmas present!

That's very kind
I'm really relaxed about it and don't want to guilt trip anyone into it. To be honest I tend of overcommit and then regret it so there really is no pressure
That said, if one or both of you ARE keen then I will join you

Alright then, let's do it
No pressure Brian - it'll be there in Jan 2026 if you want to read your Christmas Prezzie from Mrs B, or just get to it as and when - same to you Sam and Kathleen

I'm going to be reading as soon as my library copy is available which may be in December or January. I think I posted this before but in case I did not, Patti Smith does a live video blog on substack. It is available for ll subscribers and you are able to make contributions if you wish. What I love is that is not an over commercialized slickly produced blog. It is Patti from her computer camera or phone taping a short friendly message and lighting on a topic that might be of interest to her at that moment. I am linking the latest post with the hope that you may see it. But it is one of the wonders of this modern age that we can receive communications like this while we read the author's book or listen to their music. https://substack.com/inbox/post/17932...
That’s tremendous
Thanks
She’s amazing
I’ve seen her a few times over the years and she’s always wonderful
Just Kids is a fabulous read

Given there's no obvious date when we can all read and discuss
Bread of Angels: A Memoir by Patti Smith I conclude it's easiest just to each read it as and when we fancy it and forget the idea of a combined buddy read.
Worth a try eh?
If we feel inspired we can post any thoughts in our Best Books About Music thread...
