I don't normally read those, but I can think of 2 or 3 off the top of my head, so maybe. :)

Hey guys!
Can't believe I'm saying this, but I'm running out of ideas for our monthly reads! Do you guys have any ideas? Let us know!

Aliens: manga featuring alien characters
Friendship: manga about the development of a friendship or a preexisting one.
Children's: manga that have characters ages 0-8 years old.
Tween v Teen: manga with characters ages 9-19 y.o.
Time: manga where characters can time travel to the past, future, have a way of communicating with their past/future self, etc.
Limited: read manga with 20 or less volumes.
Unlimited: manga with more than 20 volumes.
Omnibus: read only omnibus manga volumes.
Tourist: manga with foreign characters or where the opposite is true; Japanese character outside of Japan. (Although I guess this is a variation of the Jan-Feb monthly read, so...skip this.)
Family: manga with different types of families; nuclear, extended, blended, single parent etc.
Siblings: similar to family, but with a focus on siblings.
Supernatural Horror: manga with myth, folklore/folktale creatures. (This is the October challenge one, so also skip.)
Crime/Realistic Horror: manga with detectives, criminals, etc.
Mystery/Suspense: more focus on the unknown, even gothic. (no horror)
Sci-fi: manga with sci-fi elements like scientists, space, other planet, A.I./android/robots, speculative (alternate Japan), etc. Not heavily about sci-fi.
These could probably be used for challenges too.

@ Hailee: If you mean shounen ai ("boy love," not necessarily X-rated), we could do that. I'm not sure there'd be enough interest, though. I can't say I know a lot of examples, but I don't think many shounen ai manga have been suggested for other themes.

College Life.
Careers.
Comedy / Rolling on the Floor Laughing
Shounen that feels like Shoujo
Shoujo that feels like Shounen
Inhuman (Fantasy Monsters, Robots, Computer Programs, characters with transformation abilities, etc)
Plot Twist or Mystery Heavy (I see Cindy had this covered with mystery).
Hmm... Some of these might be tough for us to do. Can you name a few shoujo that would fit a "College Life" and a "Careers" theme? With the intended audience being under 18, I'm not sure there are many that fall into those categories (I can't think of any off the top of my head).
As for "Shounen that feels like Shoujo," since we're the shoujo group, I don't think we can do that one (since it's shounen). Shoujo that feels like Shounen, though, is a really cool idea. :)

Careers could be more part time jobs or even club activities for highschoolers. More "Afterschool Activity" focused if you want a different word for the theme. Something like Ouran Host Club would be one example.
And definitely maybe College Life would be more Josei, but there's a few Shoujo that I think concern this (the Bisco Hotori one I recommended this month, Behind The Scenes!! takes place in college; Itazura na Kiss is another; Golden Time is published Shounen not Shoujo, but that's college focused as well).
Don't mind me if my themes are tough / impossible. I'll let you know if I find a bunch of books in one of those themes confirmed Shoujo though. =)
And absolutely figured we couldn't read Shounen that feels like Shoujo, but maybe I'll throw that over to the Shounen board if they do any sort of themed months. I was thinking stuff like Nozaki Kun, Golden Time, and Toradora there. Even Blast of Tempest seems more Shoujo in character designs. Yona of the Dawn would be a Shoujo that feels like Shounen at times.
I can think of a few other shoujo that feels like Shounen, too. Fruits Basket has that feel whenever Kyo opens his mouth in early volumes lol. Alice in the Country of Hearts with all its gun fights, CCS with the card collecting... There are a bunch more if I actually did a bit of digging in my read list lol
Just reminding you all that this thread is here, if you'd like to make some suggestions for future monthly read themes. :)
Amber wrote: "How about completed series manga like read the first volume of a completed manga series?"
Completed series is a great idea! It's a great way to get older series back in the spotlight too. Thank you for the suggestion. :)

I also want to say sad theme (probably because I just finished The Gods Lie), but not series that are too sad; at least not for me...so Rain and Sunshine as a symbolic name for the theme.
side note: what demographic is

"Cute" as a theme and "Sad" as a theme would work. :)
Also, "The God's Lie" is Seinen and wouldn't fit our group
