It is exactly 1 book. That is why there is also a "complete story".

So it's one book splitted up into 6 and not 6 books with common characters and the last one is just a bundle of all them?
(that makes a difference for the creation of the series and what's primary)

A serial novel later released as a complete volume is generally handled the same as a series of novels with an omnibus. Either way, it would be #1, #2, etc. and #1-6.

(A book originally published as one and then released in parts is different.)
