A debate has erupted over whether reading fiction makes human beings more moral. But what if its real value consists in something even more fundamental?

As a child I read many WW2 biographies, science fiction, historical war novels (including War and Peace), Lobsang Rampa, Doc Savage, Tarzan and the other ERB novels, Robert E. Howard, and a lot of erotica, including the Marquis de Sade, plus many many comics.

Reading has helped me explore and understand my character and personality, but I highly doubt it shaped it.
