Louise O'Connell (httpwwwgoodreadscomlouiselake) | 7 comments Seven years after the eventful night that Mina was almost turned into a vampire, she is now happily married to Jonathan Harker and has a lovely son called Quincy until her past comes back to haunt her.
Mina’s life is thrown into turmoil as a gypsy sorceress with a hidden agenda casts a spell from the book of the dead to bring Dracula back from his grave.
Mina’s worst nightmares are unleashed as her husband and child are brutally slaughtered and she is reborn with a bloodthirsty appetite and dark vengeance.
Seeking revenge and to be reunited with her loved ones, Mina battles against all odds and survives into the twenty first century, until a handsome stranger arrives to document Mina’s life who is not quite what he seems…
Mina Harker: The Curse of the Vampire is a compelling sequel to Dracula, which also acts as a standalone story. Bringing back the old characters and adding new ones to create an emotional, action packed modernised fantasy from Mina’s perspective with an added twist at the end.

Mina Harker. The curse of the vampire, is a captivating read that draws your attention from the very first page. Louise Lake's version of Mina has captured a powerful side to her character and shows us there is a strong side to the once fragile Mina Murry, that was victim in Bram Stroker's novel Dracula. The dark story is filled with suspense, and had me wondering if the end was nearing for Mina, with every page I turned. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and loved the twist at the end. A compelling read for all vampire fans. The only downside to this book, was that I could not put it down, and read it very quickly from cover to cover. Which brings me to the point, I will be looking out for more work by Louise Lake and can't wait for her new book series, Heaven's curse, coming out. Don't hesitate to purchase this book, as I am glad I did.

Paddy (paddythegod) | 2 comments Hi Louise,
may I ask why the book is so short? I'm sure that it's an exciting read, but only 94 pages. I was just about to buy it, then saw how short it was and I'm sorry but it put me right off. I don't have the patience to read short stories. You get right into them and they end! Dracula's sequel, it isn't really, more like a bonus short story, but that is just my opinion. Of course if this is the first book in a series, my opinion could change if I started reading the series after a few more had been written so I had enough to get my teeth into, so to speak! Thanks Paddy

Francis Franklin (francisjamesfranklin) | 544 comments It's a respectable length for a novella, and besides, a female vampire living in London, Mina Harker besides, is worth at least 40,000 bonus words...

Francis Franklin (francisjamesfranklin) | 544 comments Was Dracula strictly nocturnal? I know he preferred the night, but I thought he moved about in the day too. Or am I wrong?

Laura Enright | 13 comments From what I remember, Dracula could move about during the day, but his power (or strength) was greatly diminished. While there are legends of nocturnal vampires, the idea that daylight was dangerous to vampires really struck a chord with the movie Nosferatu: Symphony of Horror which was based on Dracula. In that the vampire disintegrates in the rays of the rising sun.

Hi Paddy, I made this a short book as I felt I would be dragging out the story too much if I made it any longer. I felt it ruined the pace and excitement in each chapter.
